Just asking, what's wrong with this advertisement for a head of Academy.

This person will have to run both hurling and football. I wonder how dual counties like Cork, Galway, Limerick, Clare, Dublin do things?

how is it a mess? They're advertising for a new head of the academy, the first step to getting the academy up and running again. It's a positive step

Agree, it's a very positive step and must be welcomed. It's time to move on from the Lacey saga and start afresh. A new chapter with committed people who won't leave at the first sign of difficulty. As for the Academy being an umbrella for both Football and Hurling, I don't see the problem. The Head of the Academy should be about bringing up the standards and ensuring that the coaching is at a high level ie: Coaching the coaches, in both hurling and football. Sharing resources, funding and expertise makes absolute sense and is a much better and smarter use of money. PeterQ92 (Donegal) - Posts: 112 - 17/01/2024 10:36:12 2520622 Link 0 |
It's taken 12 months and includes hurling. Give me an example of a county who is doing this. Or maybe this is inclusion or some political nonsense. We are not a hurling county. Why not have a football academy person in charge of running the football and a hurling academy person in charge of running the hurling?

Whoever takes the academy over the most important thing is development of players for senior county football in terms of S and C. Identify the talent and focus on those. Once they come out of minor steer gathering them. For too long players have left minor and they reappear again at under 20 level looking the exact same in terms of S and C. I always use Mayo as an example. Look at Oisin Mullins when he broke through. A man. TheRock2121 (Donegal) - Posts: 1191 - 17/01/2024 12:00:14 2520633 Link 0 |
love hurling, but agree there should be a seperate academy to promote it led by Hurling people. donegal is a football county and we need to get the emphasis back to football at underage to ensure we continue to dine at the top table

What is the fitness status of Eoghan Ban Gallagher? The back six will most likely be selected from the following group Brendan McCole, Ciaran Moore, Stephen McMenamin, Mark Curran. Jack McKelvey, Odhran Doherty, Eoghan Ban Gallagher, Caolan McColgan, Peadar Mogan, Ryan McHugh. I don't think Hugh McFadden has the turning pace for a defensive role, but he could play inside as a target man at certain points, he has attacking ability. I also prefer Ryan McHugh playing a more attacking role, think he is more effective there. Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1193 - 17/01/2024 13:38:42 2520650 Link 0 |

The head of academy won't be coaching. They will be responsible for all the tasks that are common whether it's a hurling or football academy, ensuring best practice, standards etc. Makes sense to have one person doing it.

I could be wrong but I think Ethan O'Donnell is away travelling in 2024. Naomh Conaill posters could confirm.

No he is going to Australia with his club mate Eunan Doherty. Two big loses for Glenties. Reading between the lines of Jim's interviews it was someone 'in house' who raised the Finbarr Roarty issue. I realise media did report it but apparently it was one of 'our own' who officially alerted Ulster. I've heard it from one or two that it was a members of last years executive who isn't in situ now and not the obvious one you'd think. Extremely petty and vindictive if true. peiledoir20 (Donegal) - Posts: 1006 - 17/01/2024 15:55:43 2520673 Link 0 |

Is Caolan Ward not on the panel this year.? gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 1122 - 17/01/2024 17:12:03 2520689 Link 0 |
100% correct. Also why not bring in the ladies as well , join all of the funding together and eventually make it a full time role with a team around him/her. Bringing in the hurlers should compliment it, not threaten it. Make it the best Academy in Ireland. Just honest hard work and shared expertise for the best interest of Donegal. Sure we all know it wasn't available, no point in bringing it up again. Did you get off your armchair this year yet, me thinks you have too much time on your hands lol.
