While I wouldn't be carried away with a challenge match win in December, I was in Hyde Park back in Feb when we had are arses handed to us and were miles off it. Most pleasing thing about today was the intensity and urgency to love the ball quickly. Plenty to work on but a very encouraging display which augurs well for the div 2 campaign totalrecall (Leitrim) - Posts: 991 - 17/12/2023 18:02:54 2517210 Link 0 |
Very entertaining fare in Ballyshannon today for a December Challenge Match. I thought the intensity was incredible, and it was great to see a Donegal team hunting in packs, and putting in proper hits, not just covering space. There was a good crowd, I heard a figure of 1,100 mentioned, and I'd say everyone enjoyed it. SouthOfTheGap (Donegal) - Posts: 699 - 17/12/2023 19:27:11 2517218 Link 0 |
Very impressed with our work rate today. Young Caufield impressed from watching. New pitch looking well too. TheRock2121 (Donegal) - Posts: 1190 - 17/12/2023 20:07:29 2517227 Link 0 |

Didn't manage to get to Ballyshannon but seemed a decent game by all accounts. Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9510 - 18/12/2023 10:25:08 2517264 Link 0 |

Happy with what I seen yesterday. Good work rate, a lot of players to come back. Hopefully we'll keep all our players fit because if we do I think it could be a good year. Patton really is something else. rorysboys (Donegal) - Posts: 2555 - 18/12/2023 11:37:25 2517281 Link 0 |
Jim having a valid pop at the last four management teams, stating that we were passing it over and back the pitch too much. Ridiculous that we didn't build on Jim's success. It was dire, unimaginative stuff. On to smarter football now. StockholmGael (Donegal) - Posts: 135 - 18/12/2023 15:32:16 2517314 Link 3 |

Its actually a similar scenario to 2010-2011, where Jim needs to plug gaps around our current marquee players in order to form a serious starting team and bench, so he is trying to find the right blend, the right balance. I recall conversations a couple of years back about what McGuinness would likely do with Declan Bonners squad, and most thought he probably would have mostly the same players, but maybe change it up at Corner back and wing-back, but increase in Intensity and tackling would likely be an improvement area. From Sunday's challenge game, most people noted that tackling already is looking better. I think this strong McKenna Cup and strong Division 2 will definitely provide excellent preparation matches for championship. Commodore (Donegal) - Posts: 1193 - 20/12/2023 10:13:57 2517460 Link 0 |

Daithi Roberts was named as the sub keeper, but Mulreany was definitely with the squad on Sunday.

I'm assuming Caolan McColgan, Niall O'Donnell, Paddy McBrearty and Ciaran Thompson don't have any serious injuries. I heard that Conor O'Donnell might not be available this season, not sure how accurate that was, but heard he might be travelling or something. Glad to see Paddy retaining the captaincy, what a servant he has been to the county, imagine if he gets to lift a big cup for us next Summer! Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3001 - 21/12/2023 14:14:02 2517569 Link 0 |
