Replying To CCFabu:  "2018 is when we lost Paddy and he was in the form of his life that year. But 2019 and 2020 were the years for me - we drew with Kerry in Croke Park in 2019 and suffered some injuries on the day as well, if I remember right we lost Hugh McFadden and McGee that day in the middle? And think we lost Niall O'Donnell to injury that day too. Had we won that much we were essentially into a semi-final against Dublin. As it was we went to Castlebar in a defacto quarter final and just didn't show up on a rotten day apart from a couple of players.

And then 2020, that was the year that got away for me, I'm still sick thinking of it. As Lockjaw says, there was plenty of noise around the country that we were the only ones coming to give Dublin a rattle. Especially after we destroyed Armagh, the feeling was we'd beat Cavan handy in the Ulster final - though I think most of us would say that wasn't coming from Donegal fans, we've been burnt too many times before. Cavan completely outplayed and outfought us to put that whole train of thought to bed.

I do think Bonner was unlucky with injuries at times and then 2021 he was unlucky as there was no backdoor - beaten by Tyrone in the Ulster semi final, a day of crazy heat in Ballybofey and we lost Murphy to a red card in the first half after a missed penalty. I thought we battled really well that day until the final 10 minutes or so when we were gassed and Tyrone's fitness shone through.

I'm looking forward to seeing what McGuinness does. I've been very positive about this group of players since Bonner took over, thought he did a great job bringing the young lads through and establishing themselves at senior. But I think they've missed a bit of edge and mentality. In the early Bonner years I put that down to them being young. But they're not young any more, so it's no excuse. If Jim of all people can't instill that mentality then you'd have to admit they just don't have it"
Hi CCFabu: How will your own man fare out I wonder. Some people would have their doubts.

Tá an ceart agat AudiMan, and in fact he would be the prototype of what I'm thinking with this group of players, all the talent in the world but is the mentality and grit there - we'll soon find out

Do we have any visibility on the 2024 intercounty fixture list yet?

The Indo said that the campaign begins at home against Cork on Sat 27th Jan - has anything else been announced?

Presumably the Derry game in Ulster will be the weekend of April 6/7?

They haven't even announced the League games yet. Cork or Kildare away is the only prospect at the moment of a weekend away, and a few pints. But with Newbridge out of action, God knows where they will play their home games.

They're looking to get into Croker which would be a great experience for a lot of our younger players. Last time we played there was Paddys weekend 2022 against the Dubs if memory serves me right.

Ah now I think it's great to see new posters with new opinions. Im only speaking for myself but I'm sick of the same old posters with an agenda against different managers and good gaa people. More new posters please might brighten the hogan stand up. Welcome on board ladies and gentlemen..

And you had no agenda, please give us a break. Most people had no agenda against Mr Bonner which I am sure you are referring to.
I just simply never had faith in him to get the best out of Donegal, it was not personal as I never had a conversation with the man.
Club affiliation aside, I believe most posters want the same thing, for Donegal to be competitive and get the best out off what we have. In underage and senior football.
Have an organisation in Donegal football from top to bottom that is efficient and gets the best out off everything.
Like financially I don't think we have scraped the surface when it comes to Donegal connections abroad and the money we could generate from there to help make Donegal football the best in class

The only agenda most posters have on here is to see Donegal be the best.

I take it one of the new accounts is yourself so roryboy. You can agree with yourself now and give yourself a wee thumbs up. your presence is multiplied, I doubt many think it brightens the 'hoganstand up' though.

The Sat Indo said that for NFL we are

Round 1 - Home to Cork
Round 2- Away to Cavan
Round 3 - Home to Fermanagh
Round 4 - Away to Armagh
Round 5 - Doesn't say
Round 6 - Away to Kildare in Croker
Round 7 - Doesn't say

I'd assume the 2 games not mentioned against Meath and Louth are at home

We're due 4 home games

Fine having the money but you need the players too..at the end of the day it's an amateur game and players and managers don't get money?

Another melee and abdonment of a me reported in the paper today.

The same club has now been involved in three melees in the last year. Scary thing is that two of the games were u21. What are they teaching them in that club? They were known for similar incidents in the 90s.

Time for the CCCC to come down hard on them.

Na Rossa 9.17
Lifford 3.05

More competitive, seriously????? Are you trying to tell people that is a good result for the weaker team.

That happened to be Lifford it could just as easily have been R Emmets, N Colmcille, Pettigo or a few more smaller teams.

While I would agree that teams should not get complacent or go for an easy title but you lose confidence and interest if your team are out of their depth and getting heavy beatings week in week out.

Clubs go into competitions lower than their ability at underage to win handy trophies but this doesn't happen in adult football. Most teams want to play in as high a competition as they can, however in some cases for whatever reason they have to step down to a lower competition to rebuild.

I would suggest the Junior B championship is the level R Emmets are at currently and the Junior C was the level that Pettigo were at. R Emmets didn't win the Junior B if they had hammered Convoy I'd agree with you that they only wanted an easy championship. Pettigo only won by a point so again they weren't being cute ho**s.

When there were four divisions the regular winners of the Junior championship were Div 3 teams and sometimes a Div 2 team. Division 4 teams didn't really compete

If we really want to promote football we should be having a structure that allows everyone to be competitive. One upmanship will not help Donegal GAA in the long term but clubs being competitive at their own level will be what's best for our game."
6 starters missing, 1st choice keeper broke his ankle a few weeks before, second choice keeper done his knee in the first half of the game, had to get a fella with no gear to stand in nets for the remainder. I don't think that game is a fair reflection on the competitive of lifford. They lost to Na Rossa by 3 points in the league with close to their full strength squad. They have limited amount of players, so for a small squad to have 6 players missing is a huge loss. I agree that the weaker teams should be able to drop to junior b though, but to say Lifford weren't more competitive this year is wrong.
