This is in the past 4/5 years.

Very quiet on this thread on county final week.

Is there confirmation yet on the times of the reserve and senior finals? Assuming it's 2 & 4 or something like that?

It's is been shown on TG4 online as well.

Games are 1.45pm and 4pm.

I wonder will we will get to see any interviews from the press night or have I missed them?

On the final itself, I watched back on the Glenties semi and Eunans just played the game the way Glenties wanted. They didn't press them high up and they were very slow in attack. Twice I think they attacked them with speed and got two points from it. Will Gweedore bring something different.

Interesting listening to DL debate last night, Brendan said why don't teams that get a lead on Glenties just hold possession because Glenties will play their system. They don't know any other way. The system they play is also their attacking system. I still think Glenties will win by 3.

I've been listening to a few of the podcasts. Gaoth Dobhair won't want to fall into the trap that Eunans did, panicking when taking shots on and demoralising themselves in the process. They'll also be wary of not being caught out by Naomh Conaill's counter-attack. So we might see one of those games where it's very tit-for-tat for 45-50 minutes and then going down the strait, the more composed team will prevail.

If the above comes to pass, you'd have to fancy Naomh Conaill. They've been in that situation so many times and have the experience to close tight games out. But Gaoth Dobhair do have really strong running players like O'Baoíll and Carroll, who can break lines, plus the inventiveness of MacNiallais who can spot and deliver a pass that other players can't. I think they'll need to try to get ahead, and somehow drag NC out of their comfort zone. But even then, the NC lads probably won't panic.

I'm not going to make any predictions just yet.

Hearing Roberts, and Harkin are in McGuinness's plans for the county. I suppose with Neil in the backroom team there will be a lot of Gweedore players up. I was surprised but delighted that Jim took Neil on board, a good solid character. I would say Eamonn mcGee has a lot more coaching experience having been involved with the U20s for quite a number of years. Would the natural progression not have been for Eamonn to move to the senior set-up? Maybe he is more into the media side of things and doesn't take the coaching that seriously.

Are you sure it's on Tg4? I had a look yesterday and it said it was showing the Dublin final which is on at the same time as the Donegal Senior final.

Yes the Dublin final is on TV but the Donegal final will be online.

Probably on TG4's YouTube channel I'd say.
You can easily cast from YouTube on your phone to most smart TV's. or even if you hook your laptop up to the TV with a HDMI cable you'd be all set.

Or indeed just go straight to YouTube on your TV and get it.

How do they select players? Is it based on performance in club games? I assume the days of having trials are gone

That's Fergus McGee gone. Great snare in getting McGuinness, even if the players and the committee put together to find a manager had most to do with it. A lot of the blame for the board's mismanagement was laid at the former chairman, but easy to forget McGee sat on the board long enough whilst this mis-management was going on. Thanks for service, but new blood isn't a bad thing, given the goings-on.

It seems like the County Board circus rumbles on yet. Convention will be interesting.

Aye, hearing the same about the chairman as well. And rumour has it, his opponent last year has his eyes on the coaching officer role. Which would be surprising as I'd have thought he'd go for the chair.

A young lad from my club has been told he will be invited in for a trial so I think there have been/or will be trials in some shape or form

Lacey returning in Jan apparently to academy role

So are we, better late than never, going to end up in a situation where we have Jim McGuinness as county manager, Karl Lacey back as academy director and Paul McGonigle as county chairman?

Maybe the pain of last year was a necessary evil.

I know the focus this week is on the senior final and rightly so. However I went to the two Junior finals last week in the main for the Junior B as both St Mary's and Robert Emmets are near me.

In the B final there was an incident where a St Mary's player hit his marker straight in the face with his elbow and only got a yellow card. The referee consulted with his linesman and that was their decision, so be it.

The problem I have is there is a massive double standard from the player concerned who is in his 40s and should know better especially as he felt the need to report to the Guardai an incident he was involved in where he received an injury and both a criminal and civil court action were initiated.

Why does this player think he can act in the same way as the person who assaulted him without him being open to legal action. If it was my son he had elbowed and if he had broken his jaw I would have no hesitation in going down the legal route as what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.

A broken jaw is just as serious an incident as what happened him yet he sees that he can smash an opponent with his elbow.

Double standards or what. Shame on him
