It's going to be a thankless job for Jim in a way. He will be ridiculed flat out. I don't think the players are there but I hope I'm wrong. It will be near the end of his 3/4 years if we do get close to winning an All Ireland I feel. With the likes of Mc Colgan, Grant, Curran developing over the years. Are we talking about Odhran MacNiallais again? Lads, let it go. SignTheContract (Donegal) - Posts: 197 - 21/08/2023 13:49:17 2501602 Link 0 |
Brilliant to have McGuinness back involved and manager of the team. It will solve very little though if the academy is not sorted out with Lacey in charge and also there has to be massive changes at county board level. Damien Diver has an interview in the irish sun which is with reading for anyone interested.

It is unlikely he would have taken the job if he wasn't guaranteed that the Academy would be sorted out. gunman (Donegal) - Posts: 1126 - 21/08/2023 14:23:08 2501614 Link 0 |
Aww well based on your eamonn Coleman precedent Jim shouldn't be bothering his hoop coming back.....

you're correct on the MacNiallais one. I wish people would stop talking about him, he stepped away for his own reasons, plenty of them far more important that football. He doesn't need people constantly asking whether he's coming back. That ship has sailed, good luck to him, I hope he's in a good place enjoying his club football. Time to look forward.

I don't know what others are hearing, but I'm hearing that Lacey isn't interested in coming back to their Academy at all, no matter who is on the county board. Be a big loss. SignTheContract (Donegal) - Posts: 197 - 21/08/2023 16:37:54 2501654 Link 0 |
Odhran is the most talented footballer we have. Get him fit and conditioned under Jim's leadership and he'd be the best. Can't give up on a player like that.

Lacey has done great work with the academy but at this stage the man should be let enjoy his own time now. He has no interest in going back, we need to get modern coaches back in now to get things up and running again.

Takes a hell of a lot more than talent to be a modern day inter county footballer.

Like you say below leave lacey alone same goes for mc Niallais! If they don't want back don't go begging I'm sure mc niallais has his reasons also .. Donegal will go on without both letterkennyGuy (Donegal) - Posts: 168 - 21/08/2023 19:12:12 2501685 Link 0 |
Brilliant brilliant news from Convoy this evening, the man we all want to manage the senior team is back in charge, Neil McGee and Colm McFadden join the backroom team along with Luke Barret, Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3066 - 21/08/2023 20:42:55 2501691 Link 0 |
I've always said there is plenty of talent within the County, people have to go to matches to see it. Timing of Jim being selected as the Donegal Manager again is perfect with the Senior Championship just beginning. Fantastic news this evening. We have to be optimistic that Donegal football is in safe hands again for the next 4 years at least. Neil and Colm will bring experience to the back room team as well. Roll on 2024.....

Whatever about linesmen, surely referees need to have neutral umpires with them for senior championship games. ballboy101 (Donegal) - Posts: 225 - 21/08/2023 22:26:03 2501698 Link 0 |
The messiah returns. Glory be to the Gods. I believe Jim's appointment will improve everything, and I can see it pivoting the turgid displays we see at club level into something different, even if it was borne out of a poor attempt to emulate his methods, devoid of any original thinking of the coaches around the county. Definitely should have neutral umpires with the ref. Another point is the way ref's are appointed , we had games at the weekend where clubs travelled 2 hours from one end of the county to the other to get to a game and the ref was from the neighboring club to the home team. Not saying the ref would be biased, but it looks bad and unprofessional when u go into the hall for a cup of tea at half time and the ref, who lives up the road is sitting at a table laughing and joking with the home supporters.

Hopefully you are correct we no longer have these self appointed 'senior' players starting every game who aren't fit enough to play a full game

Kilcar folks - are the McCleans injured or not available? Lockjaw (Donegal) - Posts: 9541 - 22/08/2023 14:43:42 2501780 Link 0 |
I thought Stephen had his chance with the seniors he just wasn't making the breakthrough at the time, I'm sure lots of players will be looked at again now, not sure what the story is with the McCleans. Some change from this time last year to the position we are in now with Jim back in charge, it will be fascinating now to see how he progresses the team, might take a few years before we are back among the really top teams again but with McGuinness there and the players he has to mould into the team he wants the potential is there to dream of winning the big one again. Delighted with appointment and wish them well. It's big lift for county that had tough year. Good to see they brought younger coaches in back room to try build out further. Bit of buzz going to games this weekend, be interesting to see the panel when it comes around. DonegalDanny92 (Donegal) - Posts: 39 - 22/08/2023 16:52:40 2501815 Link 1 |
