That's the luck of the draw I'm afraid. Up to Mohill to up their game. It's been too easy in previous years to get a quarter final spot.

Exactly. If they're the best team they have to beat the best teams. Simples really. Their coach o hara won't be happy with losing to fenagh. But its great news for us all.

I think I'm right. Isn't only one team is relegated from the senior championship?
If its one I'd say it's either my own Melvin Gaels or Dromahaire.
Melvin Gaels and Dromahair in relegation final would be a tight match with Gaels slight favourites

Co final rematch this weekend. Looking forward to listening to it.

I'd love Fenagh to be crowned Co champions this year.

No team deserves it more

That's a pity now for them alright. I have deep sympathies for them lol.

This is a great system, and it is luck of the draw. Let's hope some team doesn't try and put it back to the old way. I would argue this should be brought in at county level too. But that is a whole other story.

I see the Intermediate is getting interesting already. 4 of the 5 winners in Rd 1 are meeting in Rd 2 this weekend. Allen Gaels and Annaduff looking the teams to beat at this early stage. Aughnasheelin with a full squad would have been my favourites, but the loss of Conor Cullen and others is massive given the form he was in during the league.

Aughnasheelin v Bornacoola - Tighter than people will expect. (Aughnasheelin by 2)
Ballinaglera v Annaduff - This will be a tight tough encounter in glera, could end in a draw.
Drumkeerin v Mohill - Drumkeerin to get off the mark, Mohill will be putting all efforts into saving their senior champ. (Drumkeerin by 6)
Drumreilly v Aughavas - This should be Aughavas' to lose, but Drumreilly will target this game and not make it easy. (Aughavas by 4)
Kiltubrid v Allen Gaels - Pressure on Kiltubrid already, they need a result here. Allen Gaels have a better team, but i think we could have another draw here.

On what basis does Fenagh deserve it

I wonder will Solan come back in as coach of the leitrim senior team. I personally hope he does. By all accounts a top class coach and person.

In the past 22 years which club haa lost the most county finals and never won the Co championship in that period.

That club is Fenagh.

That why I'd like to see them crowned county champions this year.

In my opinion should have kept 2 groups of 5 and had only 3 qualifying from each group. Could still have gotten a "group of death" scenario but at least you were playing all the same teams as everyone else when the points are being added up.

Fenagh have lost 2 seniors in 22 years,Manor have lost 2 more than that in a lot less time. You don't always get what you deserve.

In the past 25 years
Manor have lost 4 Co finals
Fenagh have lost 4 Co finals.

In the past 25 years
Manor have been county champions 6 times
Fenagh haven't won it in them 25 years

WHICH of them is the most unluckiest

In fairness Fenagh haven't won a County title since the 30's. So they're due one. Anyhow... long way to go yet.

Yeah my dates were wrong.

In the past 40 years
Manor have lost 4 finals
Fenagh have lost 4 finals.

In the past 40 years
Manor has won it 6 times
Fenagh didn't win it once.

Which of them were the unluckiest

I was a bit dubious about and confused by the new championship format. But I must say it is very exciting the open draw element is a real throwback to the old championship style but giving everyone a few games. Credit where it is due great inventive call by county board. Has any other county used this system. It could work very well at intercounty level.

Cavan use it but they've 12 teams so I'm not sure how they work it must be near enough the same as us with top two semis next 4 playoff/quarter final and then the next 2 after that must just be safe from relegation but not progress any further and bottom 4 relegation semis. I seen John Connolly wrote another poor article in the Observer talking down the new format because poor Mohill have gotten a tough draw. Fair enough they got a tough draw so far but any other year with the old format they could've been put in a group with Fenagh Ballinamore and St Marys as it was also a open draw so I don't understand the whining.
He also said Mohill are more in form then Ballinamore even tho they've both won their first champo game and lost their second game. Make it make sense!

Something similar in longford and cavan?

A round robin system in Cavan. Every team plays 4 games, then 8 through to the Quarter finals based on pts and score difference.
There is relegation play between bottom 2 teams. 9th and 10th place are safe
