If the calendar allows to play with county players then no harm waiting. Teams can also play the odd midweek game

I see Paddy Power have Leitrim Gaels as favourites to win the championship this year at 5/2, just ahead of Mohill at 11/4 and Ballinamore at 3/1. Realistic? I'm not casting aspersions on Leitrim Gaels, I just hadn't noticed anything about them on this thread to suggest they were suddenly in with a good shout off winning it. Well they've got the 3 Jones brothers from Fermanagh transferred in. Ryan, Garvan and Conall. Huge additions to an already good team

The were outside odds and there was heavy betting on them. So Paddy power cutting their losses

St marys convincingly bet them, they only scored 1-2 from play (lucky goal) and everyone thinks they are ready to compete. Fenagh, ballinamore , marys and mohill still well ahead .could be a different story when garvin jones returns …

If Leitrim Gaels can gel as a team they will be hard to stop but Morally its wrong maybe one player but three is ridiculous,I think SOH will be very close this year, great odds for Fenagh but knowing there luck they will get beaten by the eventual winners in the semifinals again ,mohill has a wealth of experience and won't be far off,one big team will be gone at the quarterfinals depending on the position of the table Redlad6 (Leitrim) - Posts: 31 - 01/06/2025 12:04:46 2613957 Link 0 |
I was suprised at the Melvin Gaels result... is it one up one down this year? Assuming so it would look like Melvin Gaels will be going straight back down...

A good result but it looks like it isn't enough, I think back on those covid days the Tipp manager of the time wasn't happy with us for some reason. boxtyburgerbuns (Leitrim) - Posts: 326 - 01/06/2025 15:38:42 2614014 Link 1 |
The criteria for progress has been there since the inception of the competition. It wasn't a problem before and the participants knew where the trapdoor was. We're making our exit after a victory that reflects well on the lads who donned the jersey in difficult times. The entire squad who've slogged since January deserve recognition. The no-show debacle wasn't their making. We need, as Bertie used to say, "a period of reflection", run off the county competitions and reset. Well, it is a fair system, whatever about a great system. Perhaps, only two from each group should go through? That being said, the system and its in's and out's has been well documented for quite a while now, so tut-tut with the complaining after the fact. And yes, it is great to see New York in the competition. We won't let the province of Connaught down in our efforts. The province is going quite well, with it seems only the two 'L's'-Leitrim and London-out of the championships at this stage. And well done on beating Tipperary. I was not expecting it. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2278 - 01/06/2025 19:13:00 2614105 Link 0 |

Offaly away is who you would have played. At least you finished the year off on a winning note.

New York parachuted into knockout stages of both football and hurling and it is a fair system? Give over. There's no reason for New York to be there in comparison to a team from continental Europe for example or a Canadian or Australian selection. I agree however top two in each group should only qualify

And who is going to foot up the cost of bringing them over every weekend to compete in the championship? Probably would cost at least 30-40k a pop. There's fairness and then there's the reality of it. You have to give NY some incentive to keep the games alive over there and it's probably the only way that doesn't mean we bankrupt the GAA.

Totally agree, it is not a big issue.

They will travel over only the once for prelim Q's. If they win that game they play the following weekend so it's a big if to win the prelim and no chance the following weekend if they did.

Congrats to yeer senior footballers on turning a difficult season around. To lose nearly a full squad, change yir manager twice in pre season, injury crisis and then get all of the U20 withdrawing players shenanigans, yee were swimming against the tide to say the least. To end up where yee are now is impressive. Good C'ship performances always warm the heart and yee've done that, ending with a magnificent win against Tipperary.
