Talking with a friend last night and he was saying that the roscommon job is probably wont of the must unattractive this year.

Division 1 - with a small chance of staying

Alot of our players having a lot of football played and very few young lads breaking into the starting team.

Mayo and Galway looking strong limiting our chances of winning a connacht title. and last but not least a very expecting roscommon supporters group who want titles

Hard to disagree with a lot of that. You would think though that an ambitious management team would be interested in trying to bring on the u20s from last year over the next few years. The likes of Tyrone seem to be brilliant at that. Derry to a lesser degree starting to bring on the lads they had underage success with. I know it takes even more to get lads from u17 to senior but we were in that AI 5 years ago and it seems less than a handful of those lads have been developed into senior squad players. They'd still be young so hopefully there's still time.

Outside "professional " managers are more interested in taking over an already developed team with potential than rebuilding or trying to bring on young lads.
We'd need homegrown coaches/managers developing the underage talents.

While that can be the case Rory Gallagher has shown that if the manager is ambitious enough it doesn't have to be the rule. Is it strange that Liam Tully never seemed to be in the running for the job? His line of work would make it very hard given the committments inter county managers have to give these days but strange he was never put forward? Although he didn't get it, Nigel Dineen's hat was in the ring some years back.

Judging the mood here and elsewhere in the county i don't think they'll be too many expecting titles.

To stay in division 1 would be massive but to do that these lads need a top coach. The whole thing needs freshening up. Realistically we need to add 3 good defenders to the panel. Will the likes of Colin Walsh Paul McGrath and Paddy Gavin step up next year and get a few runs in the league. People saying this team is coming to the end of the road and played alot of football over the years but most should be only in their prime right now. This will probably be the last manager some of these lads will play for in a Roscommon jersey so it's a massive appointment and whoever gets it if they are local can't go and bring in their buddies as selectors and coaches. It will be a waste of everyone's time

No it's not strange that Liam Tully hasn't been in the running.

Whats were thoughts on the standard of reffing in the county? Has there been any decent additions to the scene in recent years, coming from leitrim i see a better standard in Ros. Hopefully the respect has been improved in recent weeks and it lasts!

Could never see him managing Roscommon. From what I have heard he's very good

Should they? The dogs on the street know the players good enough in the county to be given chances. Dont believe a potential new manager is going to come in and spot anyone capable that won't be given a chance anyway.

See Ray Dempsey is linked with Limerick's football job. Was he ever considered for the Roscommon role. The only person linked with it rubbished claims within hours.
Is managing a D1 team not attractive to someone.
Either the CB are keeping their cards close to their chest or there was be a panic decision made in mid November.

I think the cb are under serious pressure now especially after what went on during the week with Donaghy. People saying Davy burke is up for interview and seems like a very knowledgeable lad who is only 34 I think. But then again it's hard to believe anything you hear now. They obviously have 3 /4 candidate's for interview but are they good enough we will see in the next 10 days

I heard that, but that could be changed very easily.. Logistically it works well for him.. He obviously wants to manage Mayo down the line... Getting experience in Div 1 would be a big addition to the old CV

Could do more harm than good to his cv taking over another county.

My own personal opinion is none of the local names mentioned will get the job. Wouldnt be surprised if the manager was one of Davy Burke, Kevin O'Brien or Cian O'Neill

I think Cian O'Neill has committed to Padraig Joyce and Galway for another year.
