Forgot to add I think Tulsk will beat Elphin in the relegation battle. MachaireConnacht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1000 - 30/09/2022 20:43:26 2442376 Link 0 |
Elphin. The glamour team of the 1950s.! They won 5 senior county championships during that decade. Third in the roll of honour overall.

I agree with you about Cathal Cregg but I think he works for Connacht gaa which may rule him out from being involved in the Roscommon setup. I don't agree with you about Anthony Cunningham. Roscommon have a lot of talented players at present. Players who got to All Ireland U21 Finals in 2012 and 2014 and only lost to Dublin teams containing players who have become legends of the game. We have the Dalys, the Smiths, the Murtaghs and Ultan Harney. Apart from 2019 which was a great Connacht title for us and I was in Salthill, Roscommon's championship record under AC has been very poor. Not alone the defeats but also the manner of the defeats. We lost our Connacht title to Mayo in November 2020 with a whimper in the Hyde. A totally listless performance by Ros who never got going at all. In 2021, again at the Hyde, we produced a dreadful defensive performance against Galway and were deservedly beaten. We struggled this year in the first half against 14 man Division 4 Sligo. We only pulled away in the second half. Clare are a poor team. Derry showed that and Limerick had beaten Clare in Munster. Yet we couldn't beat Clare in Croke Park and we collapsed in the last few minutes against them. I just can't understand people who argue AC should have got a fifth year. With the players we have, the results and performances in the championship should have been a lot better these last 3 years. As for Pat Flanagan, his inter county management career has been with Counties in the lower reaches of the League. Sligo, Offaly, Westmeath. I don't think he's a fit for the Roscommon job. I don't think I commented on Liam Tully for the senior job. He had a great year with the U20s in 2021.I do think we left a Connacht title at that grade behind us this year. I'd like to see an internal county appointment. I think Fergal O'Donnell is a great Roscommon gaa man with an excellent management record. I also think Nigel Dinneen should be looked at given his U 21 record but I don't know who's in the running for the Ros senior job or who wants it. There is a lot of commitment and time involved.

In fairness endgame you have justified your opinion and stated who you would like to manage the Roscommon football team. I just feel that in several of the cases you mentioned (for example this year's under 20's) the players let the management teams down which has also to be taken into consideration. On a small point of correction, you did comment indirectly about Liam Tully when you stated in one of your posts (29/9 @ 20.52pm) that: "No disrespect to other posters tag about Liam Tully for the senior position................. That said I feel Pat Flanagan would be a better bet at senior level." We know from several of your posts how you feel about Pat Flanagan! We will just have to agree to disagree and leave it at that. I acknowledge that we both want the best for Roscommon football and are passionate about it. Hopefully the county board will soon appointment a strong management team. However, all Roscommon supporters should get behind the new management team and players next year as they will need all the support that they can get in division 1 and in a very competitive Connacht championship. letsgetgoing (Roscommon) - Posts: 660 - 01/10/2022 17:31:46 2442425 Link 0 |
Hard to believe Kilbride relegated to Junior, would not have predicted that at the start of the campaign. How are they doing at underage? Two big schools in the parish you'd think population shouldn't be an issue but then a lot from Roscommon town go to Derrane and maybe end up playing club with the Gaels. I didn't mention mention Liam Tully at all in that post. On your other points fair enough. We all wish the best for Roscommon football and it would be very boring if we all thought the same thing.

The one potential upset this weekend was Roscommon Gaels v Pearses and that's how it turned out. Connacht and defending County champions out at the Quarter final stage i think that highlights the competitive nature of our club championship. They aren't. Relegation final is between Clann B and Shannon Gaels.

The Intermediate relegation playoff is tomorrow between Shannon Gaels and Clann B. Any word on Noel Dunning's backroom team for the 20s? Ros13 (Roscommon) - Posts: 116 - 01/10/2022 18:55:32 2442438 Link 0 |
What was the game against Aidans? I thought I saw relegation play off.

it was a 8th placed play off. Aidans well beaten by Croans today. Elsewhere Elphin had dropped to intermediate grade while Croans,Fuerty are coming to the boil at the right time. Good win for Ballinameen in the Junior A championship but its feared they have lost one of their best players to a long term injury. Strokestown B beat Kilglass by a point. What are you rabbiting on about. Your not too well informed in Roscommon football affairs if your making silly comments like the above. They got a chsp win which secured their status and were knocked out by Aidans for a place in the QFS.

To see who qualified for QF, Aidans went to QF but we'll beaten today

Strokestown done well, they dug deep today. A game littered with mistakes from both sides. Diarmuid McGann was impressive. Pity Sean Mulloolly isn't playing county. Orans forwards never seemed to get into the game bar for a couple of occasions. They'll be disappointed with that performance. MachaireConnacht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1000 - 02/10/2022 16:31:47 2442509 Link 0 |
Could be worse. On the championship front the Gaels will be happy looking at todays game, Strokestown with lots of improvement to make but will be happy how they kept the Oran forwards quiet and a man down. MachaireConnacht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1000 - 02/10/2022 16:39:02 2442510 Link 0 |
Did very well. With 15 minutes to play found themselves 2 points down and down to 14 minutes. It sparked them into life the 1st goal that gave them the lead was outstanding. Not sure how Oran was ahead 1st half when Strokestown was on top and winning most of the personal battles. This 2nd game is currently half time and looking like a routine win for Boyle unless Glaveys can find something 2nd half. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3937 - 02/10/2022 16:55:21 2442512 Link 0 |
