Thought the Government allocation to the Hyde was mean considering that a Junior Soccer club in Galway who couldn't even field a team last weekend got a massive grant in comparison. The sports grants are a method of using taxpayers money to buy votes.

Roscommon D1 Minor Final - Extremely exciting Minor final scheduled for Enfield on Sun Ko at 5:30 PM. Yes the Div 1 U18 final between Castlerea St Kevin's and Roscommon Gaels has the potential to be a great game. My one mini complaint and this is no disrespect to Enfield (St Croans) whom have a fine venue but I think finals such as this should be in the county stadium Hyde Park.
Roscommon Gaels will likely go into the game as favorites and have 8 players (Conor Groghan,Michael Gillooly,John McGuinness,Liam Naughton,Eoghan Carthy,Sam Hannon,Ciaran Mulry,Tom Biesty) who was on the Roscommon U17 panel the last two years. A few of those names have already featured for seniors on route to the semi final this year.
Castlerea are the more youthful side with a lot of their starters who was part of their team that won the U16 Div 1 title last year. Only 4 players (John Curran,Cormac Beatty,Liam Finneran,Dara Curran) was on the county U17 panel the last two years. As imformed already said there should have been more on the panel but we have this policy of sticking with who was on the development panels than adding players who have impressed in the club championship.
Another two games to keep an eye on this Monday the 30th at 7th is the Div 1 U16 final in Kiltoom Pádraig Pearses v Clann na nGael and the Div 2 final St Michaels/St Ronans v St. Dominic's in Strokestown. A lot of 2025 U17 county minors will be action in those games.
Finally the senior hurling final on this Sunday at 2pm, nothing against Four Roads but would be good to see St Dominic's win this title for the first time since 1999 and our local newspaper pundits/journalists are tipping them to win but I feel Four Roads will use their experience to edge another final.

Eventful weekend in Roscommon. In the ladies senior final yesterday Brigids who was in flying form coming into the final and loooked to be on course to win as they led by 7 points at half time but Clann produced a great 2nd half performance to win by 13 points.
Todays senior hurling final St Dominics led by nine points 10 minutes into the 2nd half. Four Roads then showed all why they are champions, by drawing level and winning the match by 4 points in added time.
Lastly the Div 1 U18 final. Not the classic as I hoped but a good competitive contest all the same, Castlerea after a 35 year wait won this title and full value for their five point win. John Curran with 0-6 who's sure to feature for Roscommon U20s next year so long as he keeps himself injury free

Minor Final report.
After 34 years wait since their last D1 minor title, Castlerea St Kevin's beat Roscommon Gaels by 5 points, St Kevin's by far the better team in the 2nd half. Very good performance from such a young team, made up of 12 players underage next year. The Gaels couldn't cope with John Currans movement up top. This win was based on overall team work, with great performances throughout the team.
The Gaels were on top early on but a key moment was an injury to their brilliant talisman Eoghan Carty which turned the momentum in Castlerea favour. The Gaels kicked 3 wide's in the 1st 10 minutes that would come back to haunt them, it must be heart-breaking for the Gaels seeing all the hard work with these lads falling at the line for the 4th year in a row, they will again be in the shake up next year.
Both teams gave it their all in very windy conditions but Castlerea showed more composure and skill in the key moments throughout the game. St Kevin's proved you don't have to amalgamate to win a D1 underage title, today showed with the right coaching and commitment teams from the North of the county can compete with the combined teams and also the big 5 Northern teams.
St Kevin's look to me quietly building a base for a future senior team with the lads that were playing today, a lot will depends if they can keeps these boys together and injury free.
It still baffles me that so few of the St Kevin's boys get a look in with the county underage teams, with only 2 on this year's minor panel of 35 and only 2 on last years panel.
St Kevin's will go into next years minor championship as favourites based on having 12 players of the starting team underage in 2025 but there are some very good teams that will be gunning for their title. It will be interesting to see how Noel Curran and his management team keep the momentum going in 2025.

Great win for Castlerea considering the older profile of some of the Gaels players and their experience in the Senior championship and underage teams the last few years. John Curran the star player on show and caused havoc for the Gaels.
Clan with an excellent second half performance to see off Brigids in the ladies championship. Full credit to them after last year's heart break.
In terrible conditions Four Roads got the job done against a flying Dominics who loaded the first half proceedings but paid dearly for conceding a goal before half time against the run of play. Four Roads out hurled their opponents in the last quarter. Four Roads now into Connacht championship where a tough game awaits. Dominics need to rethink things to keep at this level and look to adding to their structure on and off the field.

Padraig Pearses v St. Faitleachs: Everything here is lined up for a Pearses win, but write off St. Faithleachs at your peril. While Pearses were very good against Brigits, they went long periods without scoring and Brigits missed some chances to kill the game. Their defence is very solid and thats what will get them over the line. Declan Kenny and Carey will look to build on strong seasons so far. Diarmuid Murtagh will be a marked man and Faithleachs will have to be patient and tactically aware. Predicting Pearses by 2 points but a draw & extra time a real possibility.
Michael Glaveys v Roscommon Gaels: Michael Glaveys will stick to their system and this will be a very tight affair. Roscommon Gaels have talent at their disposal and a mix of experience and youth. Huge battle in midfield between Fitzmaurce/Ryane/Purcells/McManus who are all phsysically strong and good players. The Heneghans pose a real threat along with Andy Glennon, I am going out on a limb and predicting a win for Glaveys by 3 points.
Fuerty v Strokestown: Fuerty will feel like its now or never to get back to the top table of Roscommon football. They have a huge battle on their hands against favourites Strokestown. Strokestown have the players and structure in place, but the Intermediate championship in Roscommon is a hard won title. If Strokestown can keep their focus, utilise the likes of Compton, McGinley and McGann they should have just too much for Fuerty. Strokestown by 4/5 points.
Elphin v Eire Og: Another interesting battle here. Elphin will really fancy their shot at winning out the Intermediate Championship but have a stern test here. Eir Og have been in the mix the last 2 years and will not fear any team. Conor Cox will be the main threat but Elphin have the defence and attack to get over the line. Elphin by 2/3 points

Good weekend of action with 6 semi finals and we could well see extra time required in at least one or two game. Hopefully we don't get penalties and any team missing out on a final in that manner.
Faithleachs v Pearses a repeat of the 2014 semi final which Faithleachs won by point and Pearses appealed it due to a debatable point/wide without any success. The Pearses players that played then and still playing now will be reminded of that during the week
Big day for Glaveys with the first semi final since the mid 90s. They are a side that rely on goals and were on their way out of the championship until those two late goal against Oran. Roscommon Gaels are well use to semi finals the last decade and will be looking to match their defensive showing v Boyle in that match,
I'm expecting a repeat of the 2019 County final by the end of those two semi finals.
Elphin v Eire OG is repeat of last years semi final that Eire OG won by 3 points but Elphin under Nigel Dineen have improved this year but how much will be truly seen this weekend. Have a feeling this is one semi final that may need a penalty shoot to win a winner and flick a coin on who will win there.
Strokestown have done a enough without overly impressing so far, Fuerty should provide their biggest test so far but I think Town should edge it.
In the Junior A I fancy wins for Clann B and Ballinameen.
