I agree that we should be moving the ball quicker but just need to take a look at the players involved in that move; Theo Clancy Sean Bugler Paddy Small Jack McCaffrey Colm Basquel (didn't touch the ball but still tore up the pitch) Con O'Callaghan It would be hard enough to stop them when it is those players running at you at pace in minute 1, never mind the last minute when all of their 5 subs were the ones who instigated the move. The Dublin depth is frightening. Ros13 (Roscommon) - Posts: 116 - 30/05/2024 13:43:25 2548389 Link 0 |
Aren't going to do it against Dublin or any other top 6 team because they won't leave themselves that open/exposed to the counter attack when turned over. Without a hand left on them suggests Roscommon had nothing left in the tank at that stage to do so. I would have seen this game on Saturday as very hard to call however with Mayo having two weeks to prepare and off the back of an easy win against Cavan and Roscommon with a 7 day turnaround having faced Dublin and gave their all for 65 minutes it's a big advantage for Mayo. Is that Diarmuid O'Connor claim a fact or a rumour?

Good question, because this site had Ben O Carroll out for the year last week and then he played last Sunday

Diarmuid O'Connor didn't play in the league or Connacht championship game against us this year. Durcan missed the league game and Eoghan McLaughlin filled in for him that night and was arguably MOTM. They won both matches by a few points to spare proving they have strength in depth to cope with one or two injuries. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3926 - 30/05/2024 15:25:01 2548426 Link 0 |
My point being whatever slim chance Mayo had of doing anything this year (and I don't mean winning it out) it's gone up in smoke without Durkan and O'Connor. I've a feeling Cillian will start Saturday though. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11433 - 30/05/2024 19:31:06 2548468 Link 0 |
A different team to that named. Ben not in 26. I agree with you that some of the players have got plenty of chances and are not good enough. We need to find a way to win on Saturday. If we can do it, it'll open up a season that's been really poor for Roscommon so far.

Unchanged starting 15 named. Ben O'Carroll replaced on the bench by Ronan Daly. A blow to be without Ben for this key fixture. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3926 - 30/05/2024 20:28:10 2548475 Link 0 |
Ben is a massive blow and probably won't see him in a Roscommon jersey till next year. Once again I don't see that team scoring the 1-14 or 2-11 that will be needed to have a chance of winning. L

So maybe the info about Ben wasn't totally false... If he's out for the year (as per reports) why was he played last week? It's not a new injury he's laid up with..questions to be asked and answered although it is ultimately a private matter... spion7 (Roscommon) - Posts: 59 - 30/05/2024 23:30:53 2548497 Link 0 |
Ben is a big loss but we have had to deal without him for 95% of the season so far. If he is struggling with injuries then it's best he takes time to get himself right and his body right. He is only young, with a long intercounty career ahead of him (hopefully), flogging him now will come back to haunt him and us down the line. Brigids won't need him until knock out games in championship

Agree 100%. We don't want the same to happen to Ben that happened to Sean Kelly (Galway). Playing and flogged to death while carrying injuries in All Ireland club, Sigerson cup, and inter county competitions. Has not recovered his Mojo yet and has not been the same player recently.

Ya I find it strange that if he was carrying a hamstring injury or groin injury the last while why through him on against the dubs if there was any chance of making it worse. I'd rather have Ben fully fit and flying next year than getting 20 mins out of him for a game we were never going to win last Saturday.

May not have won but you never know as it was still only 3/4 point game with 65 minutes played last weekend. Players are notorious for playing with injuries when they should be sitting out of action, Some who have to call time on their county careers early tend to look back and say in hindsight that they should have rested themselves

Heard it during the week it's all over the county, everyone had it and he's not named on the panel this morning.

Out of interest has the Mayo thread closed down on here?

Really important not to be going behind by big scores early on and conceding sloppy goals. Ros have all the motivation for this one. I think we can do it if the heads are right. Shame Fitzpatrick is injured as he could add something different up front coming off the bench. Huge game for McStay as well though so he could well have something up his sleeve.
