The one thing I wanted to avoid and sure enough we got it. And getting Dublin is worse than Kerry as the scheduling means less break/prep between games now.

2nd seed (Mayo/Galway) probably as hard as possible also and at this stage we are probably better off playing those two away than in Hyde Park.

Cavan in round 3 in perhaps Longford could be a match to see who reaches the knock out stages? and for the winner that could be away match Donegal.Tyrone.Mayo,Derry so to be honest hard to be overly optimistic after that draw.

Yup, a very deflating draw.

Why is the Dubs game pushed out a week?

Good point about the scheduling Analyser. When we play the loser of Galway/Mayo in the Hyde in our second match, they will have two weeks to get over their first match (tiredness / injuries etc) while we will have just one week to recover from a difficult game with the Dubs.

Will Davy go all out in the Dublin game or perhaps rest a couple of players, bring on early substitutes if things are not going well, in order to give it full throttle in the Galway/Mayo game? I think you have to go for it and see how the players perform under pressure.
Difficult draw all round to be honest.

Because the Connacht and Munster finals are on this Sunday, while the Leinster and Ulster finals are on the following week. All these teams get two weeks before they play any qualifier games.
Disadvantage to Roscommon for their second game as per previous post.

Not a good draw . The way we are playing this year we don't stand a chance against Dublin especially if we fade out of the game with 25 minutes to go. If we get a hammering we won't turn that around in time for Galway or mayo. Have to be realistic

The one small consolation is it is nearly a carbon copy of last year and Davy will know exactly the story with recovery etc. while it was all very new last year.

Not sure how they approach that first game. You don't want to get a hiding yet you don't want players emtying the tank with a potentially more winable game the following week. The best thing for Roscomon to do is approach this as if this is the start of the season proper. Treat everything that has went before as build up. The performances previous to this are irrelevant if they can up it now for the next three games.

No comparison. Last year Roscommon were playing well. We had a good League followed by a championship win over Mayo in Castlebar. This year Roscommon have been dreadful . Relegated from Division 1 and poor against an ordinary Mayo team in The Hyde. We face a hiding from Dublin in our first group game . It'll be hard for Roscommon to pick it up after that. We'll have Galway or Mayo at home in the second round. Hard to believe but we haven't beaten Galway in the championship in The Hyde since 1990 ( some on here weren't even born) and we haven't beaten Mayo at home in the championship since 2001. A terrible record and not much hope it'll change in a few weeks.

And the Cavan match in round 3? I would expect both Roscommon and Cavan to be on zero points going into that match and the winner will go into the knock out stage against which could be against Monaghan in Clones or Meath in Navan whom are in great form in this year either. So while Roscommon was better last year they could do better than then which equals All Ireland quarter final.

Jesus

Best to rest up and get ready for Cavan.
Win that and it's a prelim q final and decent shot at a qfinal, which can't be Dublin

It would be one-way of doing it, go through the motions first 2 games and then go all out v Cavan.
As of now we wouldn't bate Cavan.

We're not fit for 70 minutes football this year as McHugh's training plan was rejected.
He'd got them fit the previous Autumn/Winter giving some decent Spring/May performances.

Don't think we need to talk about rolling over against Mayo or Galway. We've been poor yes, but they're not exactly world beaters themselves and on our day we aren't far off them.

Think we need to suck it up and just get behind the team now, all the negative talk will do no good

I know performances have not been good but this time last year the team had been bursting themselves by this stage and with one last big performance against the Dubs we were gassed. You can hardly say going by performances so far that they've peaked fitness-wise so is there anything to be said for timing peak fitness from now on? Surely to God we can play a 70 minute match at some point.

We'll all be behind the team until the last kick (or handpass) of the lady game.
But we're also realists and expectations aren't very high.

We should play the whole team behind the ball against Dublin and just slog it out for 70 minutes.
Will save energy and maybe keep the margin less than 15 pts. We might nick a few scores ourselves on the breakouts.

The strong teams in Ulster and Connacht got the short straw in the draw, Htf can Louth and Clare (no disrespect intended) be seeded the same as Donegal/Armagh and Galway/Mayo losers and above Derry, Tyrone and Roscommon? Makes zero sense and punishes counties for making their provinces competitive.

That's the 'second chance for the big teams' system that ignores the seeding system based on league finishing position and rewards provincial finalists by making them group number 1 and 2 seeds. Ignores all Derry's hard work to win the league. Makes no sense to penalise teams who achieve a seeding based on the league finish to knock them down the seedings because a team wins 2 or 3 games to get to a provincial final. I think provincials should be kept but have no bearing on All Ireland qualifications.

Really Worple. We drew with Dublin in Croke Park last year and were unlucky not to beat them. We've regressed alright but no need to put up the white flag altogether.

They become pre-season competitions then. Managers will be playing 2nd string teams and will struggle to sell out the airdome for matches as is the case currently with the FBD,
