Deserved win for Boyle this afternoon or be it going 28 minutes without a score could have been costly for them. Learnt from their poor defensive showing against Roscommon Gaels to defend well today including marking the Murtagh's out of the game from play. Enda Smith good in midfield (playing him in defence should be over now) Daire Cregg their best forward kicking three fine scores from play and creating/assisting a few others. For Faithleachs I thought Glennon and Nerney was among their stand outs.

Took in last night's water polo game between Western Gales and Roscommon Gaels, really should have been switched to Hyde Park, Western Gaels will have mixed feelings, got the last score of the game to grab a draw but were into double figures on wides, shot selection and decision making is what cost them the win.

Watched the live stream there of Faithleach's and Boyle in Ballyleague. 2 point win for Boyle. Daire Cregg is a real talent. Two good feet. Think he'll be a big player for Roscommon in the future. Excellent coverage I thought. Raymond Lannon on commentary very good.

Good wins and impressive scoring by Brigids and Pearses in matches they were expected to win easy enough as the teams Doms,Glaveys are currently lining out with would struggle to win intermediate games never mind games against two teams that are contenders for the senior championship

Took in the game in Frenchpark for my 2nd game today, Castlerea with a good win and well deserved, Would have thought the weather conditions would have suited an older Elphin side better and they got off to a good start leading 2-0 in the opening ten mins but Castlerea took over after that thanks to a goal from Adam McDermott and led by 2 points at the break which would be extended to 5 by the end of the game. Jack Keane a county minor five years ago impressing at full back, Darren McDermott back in the starting line up was lively throughout and scored 0-3, Adam and Aaron with 1-4 between them. Showing well in league and championship they'll be contender for the intermediate championship but i think Fuerty will be the team to beat whom had another good win today.

When Iain Daly was selector with the County he had about 8 of his club mates on the County panel. That's only two or three years ago. How are they at the level you say

They started with two players that was on the senior county panel recently (Patterson,Fitzmaurice) yesterday. Another Andy Glennon came on at half time and scored 5 points.

From one point down at half time to winning by 12 a outstanding 2nd half display by Oran. That's them into the knock out stages again next step is winning a knock out game coming up short the last few years.

As for Strokestown and the highs of last years title success now has the lows of a group stage exit.

Very impressive by Oran and poor by Strokestown whom managed just one point in the 2nd half. Lack of a midfield their biggest issue this year and preparing for this senior championship playing in Div 2 wouldn't have been helpful and by not playing Mullooly pretty much highlighted he's the best defender they have.

Will be interesting to see how Oran do in the knock out stages now, lots of players that has played for Roscommon teams the last few years in Fitzpatick,Carthy,Walsh brothers, lawless so the quality is there but getting Tom Featherston back from injury is one big bonus for them.

Would be great to see Oran going all the way or reaching the Final at least.

County certainly dipped in the last 3 games. If that was due to Davy and McHugh ignoring the other lads...... not a good read."
Where is it the Smith's are rumored to be going?

I was posing a question following a post that Boyle are rumoured to be losing leading players!

Whatever the team aren't going too well this year but they should make the Quarters after yesterday's win and as Strokes showed last year that's the time to come good.

Thought Oran were impressive at the weekend, could be an outside bet for the championship if they can stay injury free and not be over awed if they meet Brigits or Pearses in the latter stages. Their game v Clann na Gael should show where exactly they are in the pecking order (even though both teams are through). Strokestown will be disappointed with their season but a big last game for them v Tulsk to see who goes up for relegation.

Group B looks pretty much decided, unless Dominics can produce a miraculous result against Pearses. St. Brigits look to be clicking together nicely. An easy victory for both sides in quarter finals against the divisional teams.

Group A is all left to play for. Felt Aaron Clogher had a very poor game (watching the game on the stream). Some very soft decisions and a certain black card not given. Boyle were the better team but might be wary that they still could have drawn or lost the game. They should have too much for Western Gaels and may top the group, but will have to improve vastly to make semi finals. St. Faithleachs and Roscommon Gaels should be the game of the weekend in 2 weeks time, with the winner guaranteed in basically a knock out game. Might just shade Roscommon Gaels in this one by 2 or 3 points.

Great news to see improvement work continuing in Hyde Park.
Are they just putting in the same number of rows or will they remove a few rows from the front and have steeper banking in order to prevent the people sitting in front of you from blocking your view a little bit?
I am right in thinking that the slope of the seating in the main stand is slightly different to the slope in the concrete seating? (Might need to get the old geometry protractor out!)
Maybe reducing capacity and receiving less revenue at the odd Connacht final (from having less seating) and the additional cost of the work if necessary, might be a issue? However, a lot more matches are played in the Hyde than the odd Connacht final and that needs to be taken into consideration also.

If Roscommon qualify for a Connacht final, is there still more additional work to do in order to have one played in the Hyde?.

Well done to Club Rossie and to the Rossie supporters for collecting some serious money over several years and to the county board for getting things moving last year and this year. The work done last year really cleaned up the ground a lot. Hopefully we will get a few extra championship qualifying matches (neutral venue) to help with the finances and also support local businesses. We deserve it Croke Park/Fixtures Committee!!!!!!
We are a small county with limited finances and therefore need all the support we can get from both the Connacht Council and Croke Park. Hopefully that is forthcoming as it is obvious that the Rossies are putting in the hard work!
