Meanwhile have we any location organised for training Co teams? Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2056 - 08/11/2022 09:59:11 2446830 Link 0 |
The Club Rossie bus hasn't been used in 4/5 years to bring players down. The main concern is not the mode of transport but the time. From Dublin to Roscommon town and back again could total 4.5/5 hours for players where as having it further south could shave an hour off which is beneficial. Also, most underage teams don't train as often as senior teams.

Like the seniors our U20s have got the short straw in the Connacht championship draw tonight. The_analyser (Roscommon) - Posts: 3939 - 08/11/2022 20:56:53 2446915 Link 0 |
Going by 2020 Minors the 2 best teams meeting in the Prelim Round. Are these draws supervised by anyone? Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2056 - 09/11/2022 09:20:39 2446924 Link 0 |
At least you have home advantage for the first game with the panel of players that won the minor title. If you beat us I don't know where you will face Mayo. All I know is that if we are to retain the title we will have to win 3 times . Once in the Hyde, once in Mc Hale and either Carrick or Pearse Stadium after that. Fairly big ask !! eoinog (Sligo) - Posts: 2013 - 10/11/2022 13:06:47 2447085 Link 0 |
Not playing in Markievicz Park which has been a graveyard for Roscommon teams over the years is always a bonus. If we happen to overcome Sligo it will be another home game v Mayo.

Burkes interview was very good on OTB, speaks very well no bull, and very keen on giving new and younger lads a chance next year. Down Harney so far and looks like Ronan Daly is teaching in Dubai so probably planning without him also. McKeon might play some part in league which is great. Hopefully can get Mulooly. 2 Comptons and Ciaran Lennon back involved next year. New keeper should be given a chance whether it's Carroll, Brady etc I am not sure who. P O'Malley after winning Mayo championship, is Darren O'Malley still around? Featherstone is another worth looking at. Players we have then, I think Murray Niall Daly and Cox shouldn't be guaranteed to start next year and the likes of McCormack and Hughes (as a half forward) should are two who were very hard done by this year. Likes then of Colin Walsh, Paul McGrath, Daire Cregg, Keith Doyle and McDermott / O Carroll should be given a good shot at nailing down a place on team. Enda Crawley had a good club campaign a young fella worth looking at as is Jack Lohan. McGann had another great club championship and deserves a chance. You posted up here before the 2022 season that Ronan Daly was off to Dubai. You might be right this time?

i would like to see david neary get a chance shut down every forward he was on. I know he is involved with the u20s not sure how it would work.

I'd be very surprised if Mullooly or the Comptons play any part in the setup. I believe Mullooly just about was involved with club this year with no preseason and only joined the squad during the group stage due to injury history. Comptons have been injury ridden also, big ask to step to the demands on county football this late in their careers. Rossie2022 (Roscommon) - Posts: 26 - 11/11/2022 11:28:49 2447166 Link 0 |
You definitely don't run the risk of leaving anyone out. But you'd need about 20 pre-championship games if all these players were to be given a proper cut at making the senior inter-county grade. So, my summation of you, Rossies2020, is that you're either very young and naive (neither a bad thing), or else just a theorist who has never in practice either played the game nor managed a team (not such a good assessment). You can decide to answer or not! foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 2130 - 11/11/2022 11:59:09 2447170 Link 0 |
I'd suspect additions to the panel will be 21/22 year olds not lads late 20s/30 who've shipped a lot of injuries. Wasn't David Neary on the Senior Co panel a few times? Taking a role with the u20s suggests he's not interested in the Senior panel any more. Seanfanbocht (Roscommon) - Posts: 2056 - 11/11/2022 12:10:52 2447174 Link 1 |
I'd say this time I am!

Young enough yes but just think we need to freshen things up and going off Davy Burkes interview he is going to do that. Backline and goalie definitely areas we need to look at different personnel you'll all agree? I'm just listing the options we have I know not everyone I mentioned will get a chance. We have good up and coming forwards we know that. With Harney gone snd O'Rourke and Compton not involved last year we could do worse then look at the likes of Crawley etc. Mayo are reaping the rewards of throwing in lads at 20,21 no reason why Colin Walsh, Paul McGrath, Keith Doyle and Daire Cregg can't feature heavily next year.

Mullooly was a starter up to a year ago and Cathal Compton was starting up until only 2 years ago so they're not out of the setup that long. I don't know what their injury situation is like though.

Keith Doyle definitely looks like a lad that is ready for the step up. Was always impressive when he came on as a sub the past year. Hopefully the other lads can do similar this year. MachaireConnacht (Roscommon) - Posts: 1000 - 11/11/2022 15:08:51 2447205 Link 0 |

Was on the panel 2019, 2020, 2021 saw very little game time. One of his few starts was against Cavan in round 7 of NFL when we were down on number of starters due to Covid and I thought he was one of our stand out players in that win. Some reckon his lack of height went against him but height hasn't held back the likes of David Murray, Niall Kilroy from becoming regular starters.
