Hopefully, we can continue our discussions after the decision to close the Fermanagh forum and every other county forum.

With Championship ever near and another county season coming, this may be a place to discuss it.

Fermanagh Management

Views on Managements -
New Minor (U17) Management.
Following their disastrous Ulster Minor Championship exit, the few months in place manager has resigned with newly appointed joint minor management put in place with the Raymie Johnston and Tony Collins taking over who both have a wealth of experience on and off the pitch. Will they get the best of the team? The opinion of many of the minors is positive.
New Senior Management.
Recently appointed Fermanagh senior manager, Kieran Donnelly will have a major task before him come Ulster championship time. Although, outgoing manager Ryan McMenamin was well liked by the players however his 2-year stint resulted in poor outcomes for Fermanagh. Now things are looking up as according to Donnelly he feels can embrace the challenge before him with confidence having a good experience support being assisted by Fearghal Quinn along with Ryan McCluskey as team coach and Pat Cadden as goalkeeping coach. Niall Smyth, Ger Treacy and Stephen Jackson will work under the 'umbrella' of selectors/statistical analysts/logistics and Leon Carters will remain as the Fermanagh strength and conditioning coach. Will they get the best of the team? With a great set-up management wise we hope they will.

Why is it that our hurlers are more consistent and football teams are not?
I must say well done to Lisbellaw who beat Newry 3-15 to 1-8 in the Ulster Club IHC Q-final.
Meanwhile, Belleek are out after being beaten by Moortown by 2-5 to 3-12 in the Ulster Club IFC Q-final.
And yesterday Derrygonnelly struggled after the Ulster Club SFC Q-final had to extra time to let them progress with a finishing score of 1-16 to Dromore's 0-13.

Why did the Derrylin chief depart so abruptly after a short stay and similarly the co minor ten to? Also Corrigan must think Kinawley has chance of getting their hands on the New York Cup. Wonders will never cease :)

Hey Hillbilly what status is your Teemore senior team? Oh yes in div2 with no chance of getting their hands on the NY Cup for a long time and maybe never again. Your club is becoming more and more like Coa and B'boro i.e., going no where!

Can anyone remember such a huge turn over in managers at the end of a season??
Are clubs being totally unrealistic in their ambitions, or are they running out of money paying outsiders to come in and hope for a quick win

Big appointment for Kinawley. Dom will only have went there if he feels they can win the championship. Some amount of managerial changes there! Will the confirmed men manage and train the teams or get someone else in to do the coaching?

KeshGFC are you speaking from personal experience??

On a more positive note, it great to see Brian Armitage taking over as the chief of the County Board as Kelly's tenure has expired.

In other news, Lissan, the 'white elephant', is set for multi-million pound development see picture at
Upgrade and development is proposed to cost in the region of £2-3 million and will take place in four phases over the next five years.

According to GaelicLife weekly, the development is subject to planning permission which will be sought in late January but if passed the plans would see the facility transformed into a complex which will include a 3000 sq ft gym, a dining space which would cater for 50 people, a meeting room which could hold 150 people, a covered stand and dugouts, parking facilities and floodlight facilities to enable games to be hosted at the venue.

Phase 1 has already been completed with two grass pitches resurfaced which will be fully open next April and it is envisaged that Phase 2 will take place over the next two years. The main focus of this stage of development will be upgrading the floodlights to 500 lux at an approximate cost of £300k widening and upgrading the access road, building a new stand, fencing and dugouts and upgrading the car park and existing building. The projected cost for this phase will be £550k.

Phase 3 will see the largest expenditure, an estimated £1.5 - £2million will be spent on a new pavilion and it is hoped that it will be completed by 2028. This will house the strength and conditioning hub, dining, meeting and changing facilities and office space.

A total of four pitches is needed by Fermanagh GAA but only two can be housed at Lissan leaving a shortfall. In Phase 4, this means acquiring land elsewhere in the county with the Bawnacre-Necarne a potential site to build another two pitches. Pre-Covid, Fermanagh GAA had agreed a minimum of £1million funding from Croke Park and it's hoped that this can be secured within the next three years with other funding also being sought to help cover some of the projected costs. Club Éirne are also planning a major fundraising initiative. The design for the development is being drawn by Keys and Monaghan Architects in Irvinestown, they recently completed the Ederney and Roslea developments and the spectator stand at the Garvaghey centre.

This Lissan upgrade is a total waste of money. I've said it before and nothing has changed my mind. Stop before it's too late. IT'S IN THE WRONG PLACE. Now, apparently, two extra pitches are needed miles away from Lissan because there's not enough space for them on the hilltop. What other 'centre of excellence' is split into two locations. Think of this. if there's a training session and the Lissan pitches are in use, THE PARTICIPANTS HAVE TO GO THERE, GET CHANGED, DRIVE MILES AND MILES TO THE SECONDARY PITCHES, HAVE THEIR TRAINING SESSION AND DRIVE BACK TO LISSAN FOR THEIR SHOWER AND TEAM TALK. mad, mad mad.

I agree with ya for once … it's totally the wrong location up in lissan and if it is built the few mile of road off the Tempo road is totally unsuitable for the volume of traffic it will get at peek times .. and no lol I'm not speaking from experience for managerial turnover lol .. I haven't coached beyond underage club and I guess I'd be out of a coaching job only if I didn't volunteer again next year … I've been dropping of kids to the academies a few times and the traffic even for those events are a nightmare with the narrow roads … but here they ve already put the money in the pitches and will no doubt now double down .. my idea would be to make lissan the extra 2 pitches and stick the first 2 pitches and the new buildings more centrally … which let's face it is most other locations unless they are eyeing up Cooneen too lol

First game out of the new year, been a while, just great to have games on again.

Big job on his hands but Keiran Donnelly is a shrewd man and im sure knew the task he was signing up for was a huge one. Alot of young players given a chance today, thought, Cavanagh, McDade and McCaffrey showed some promise on their debuts.
Bench looked very youthful and fact that not many subs made shows maybe some not ready for county football yet. Obviously with Derygonnelly contigent unavailable weakens team but those alone wont get Fermanagh where need to be at for important league campaign

Great to see Ryan Lyons back in county jersey again, while Quigley looks in great shape and ready for he up coming league.
Think the goalkeeper position is one that needs looked at, the role of a goalkeeper has evolved, so crucial in terms of distribution, presence and organisation,it has cost Fermanagh over last few years in keys moments of games.

My God Lazarus Raised from the Dead! I just thought it was too good to be true. More waffle for us to endure.
As for today's game, there was nothing to impressive from the bunch younger recruits and the oldies were just so so. I know it is early days for the Donnelly management and when the Harps county contingent return, probably after the Ulster final, it will help management to put together the missing jigsaw pieces. I don't agree will Lazarus with his goalkeeping take but no one takes him serious anyway. Hoping to see our Ekn lads making a difference to the team this year.

Ha still acting the comedian gaaalltheway

I was trying to have some positivity with the new year but agree few bright lights but early days.

Johnny Cassidy and Conor Love certainly will improve things from today.

I think keeper very slow to get the kickouts going, while in the second half we couldn't buy ball from own kickout for 15 minutes, not solely GK responsibility but certainly a factor and will cost matches going forward if not sharper.

Some great young talent in Fermanagh at the minute, but hope this new management can develop them because the Monaghan young lads today look in serious condition but are no more talented than what Fermanagh have got . Just worried about midfield and no go to forward in the full forward line. Some real promising players just we hold possession to long and not direct enough. Antrim game in three weeks is a massive game this year and a must win. Also some of the enniskillen players look over rated to be honest.

Most notable things for me where 1 the gulf in
S&C between 3 teams and 2 the ease with which Monaghan sliced thru an apparently packed defence .. the s&c can be addressed now for the 2026 season at the earliest and it's an academy lead thing for one thing but also every club now needs a decent gym and last need to be at it from 14 / 15
Addressing our porous defence well the days of defending your way to victory are gone and most winning teams are racking up 15 to 20 scores per game now … and there's a question for u .. when did a Fermanagh team last score 20 times !!!
And these aren't observations from just yesterday .. before you all say first game and new team and only McKenna etc which are all true .. all I wanted to see yesterday was a blue print for future to see the Donnelly stamp.. now can anyone actually tell me what that was ?? I can't

As regards my "Lazarus has arisen from the dead" comment was in response to posts on some other thread where you let others believe you were no longer with us in this world - not exactly a very nice thing to do.

Now to the Borderland post, a first time post, it would not surprise me if it was you at your multi posting as you take a direct swipe at the Ekn players.

Then we have Kesh GFC, who could also be you as well, taking a swipe at the team and management but fails to tell us how he would resolve Fermanagh's problems - a typically fireside know-it-all observer just like macca.

There ends my responses. Thank you Hoganstand for giving me the opportunity.
