Random one. Im curious to find out How are clubs paying referees at the minute. Are Coaches paying by revolute? and then claiming back off club after? or are coaches calling to treasurers house before every game to collect the fee?.... gti (Westmeath) - Posts: 246 - 11/03/2026 23:41:03 2660970 Link 0 |

I really think it is unnecessary to have U16s playing minor at county level. There is no real need for it. I know plenty of very strong U17 lads who went through the trials, but because they were not involved in an academy setup at U15 or U16 maybe because they were late bloomers, or because they were committed to other sports when they were younger, they are now being overlooked and left outside the system. This is not a criticism of the U16 lads who were picked, because that is not their fault. But there is already plenty of talent within the proper age groups, and that talent deserves a fair chance WonTon5 (Galway) - Posts: 144 - 12/03/2026 11:31:39 2660989 Link 0 |

There are only two from the entire squad who will be minor again next year. That's actually a very low number to be honest. Most underage panels, would have a few more than that, carrying over into the following year's team. The aim should be to pick what you think is your best panel of players. I'm pretty sure that's exactly what the coaching group have done.

This is more a general observation rather than being directed at this squad in particular, as I know there is only a small number included. I completely understand that if U16 lads are genuine standout talents like for example a 15 year old Shay McGlincy was when he played midfield on that Minor All-Ireland winning team, then they can't be ignored. But the U17 pool is large, and if younger players are mainly being brought in to integrate them into the system for next year and be part of an extended panel, I'm not sure I agree with that approach. It risks taking opportunities away from U17 lads who deserve a chance. There can also sometimes be a natural bias toward players who are already in the system, which makes it even harder for others to break in. Maybe the two involved are genuinely pushing for starting places, maybe not. We will soon find out. WonTon5 (Galway) - Posts: 144 - 12/03/2026 12:58:02 2661002 Link 0 |

u20 squad seems to be top secret; most county boards have listed their squads at this stage

I recall that Mattie Murphy specifically seemed to have a lot of success strategically populating u18 squads with a good few u17s on the intercounty minor hurling scene for a few seasons. People were often looking at crack minor squads in those days, saying a,b,c,x,y,z are underage next year too. And they'd usually be damn good the next year too.

Panel named, a nice spread of clubs represented. Tuam Stars: Shay McGlinchey, Jack Cryan, Cian Mitchell and Sean Rattigan Kilconly: Brian O'Malley Caherlistrane: Richard McGrath and Shane Greaney Corofin: Killian Joyce, Ross Coen Vincent Gill and Cian Rafferty Cortoon Shamrocks: Cian Hynes Oranmore: Brian Carroll, Harry Keady, Shay Rabbitte, Ciaran McDonagh, Niall de Paor, Ciaran McDonagh and Sean Martyn Headford: Ciaran O'Donnell Ballinasloe: Charlie Killeen Moycullen:Charlie Cox Claregalway: Cillian Walsh, Daniel Hughes and Matthew Collins, An Cheathrú Rua: Eoinín Ó Cualain, Maitiú Ó Domhnaill & Fionán O'Conghaile Annaghdown: Olan Kelly Clifden: Patrick Keaney Caltra: Mikey Mulryan Dunmore: Ruairi Walkin Monivea-Abbey: Conor Mannion Mountbellew-Moylough: Ciaran Mulhern St Michael's: James Coyle Athenry: Senan Treacy Delighted to see Cian Hynes in; our neighbours are moaning about a lad going to Australia. Cian would be a bigger loss to us if the IRFU get their hands on him. We'll need him for the middle of the field. GDL (Galway) - Posts: 922 - 13/03/2026 18:18:25 2661112 Link 0 |

Is Ciaran Mulhern bypassing the u20s this year? Named in starting 15 again for Sunday with the 20s out 3 days later. Will he play both? WonTon5 (Galway) - Posts: 144 - 13/03/2026 20:41:26 2661122 Link 1 |

Compared your list of 35 players with the Galway county squads from 2023 Minor, 2024 Minor, 2025 Minor and the 2025 U20 panel. Key numbers: 17 players (48.6%) were on the 2023 Minor squad 9 players (25.7%) played Minor in 2024 13 players (37.1%) were on the 2025 Galway U20 squad 1 player appeared from he 2025 Galway Minor team ( Ciaran O'Donnell) Overall: 27 players (77.1%) have appeared on at least one Galway county squad with the pathway 8 players (22.9%) haven't appeared on a county squad yet from what i can see, possibly at academy level u15 or u16 U20 eligibility for 2027: 9 players from the 2024 Minor team + 1 player from the 2025 Minor team = 10 players from squad should be eligible for the 2027 U20 squad. One thing that stands out is the lack of players in the pathway from Salthill/K. Looking at the clubs most represented across the squads and the list, Oranmore, Corofin, Tuam and Claregalway, they appear repeatedly through the Minor to U20 pathway.Given the size of Salthill/K population base in the city, you would normally expect to see more players progressing through county underage squads. Regardless of today, we probably will need a result v dublin. A win today gives us a slighly better chance of survival but doesnt guarantee it. And i am concerned that we might not get the win today too. We are a decent team currently with great heart which means we can compete with anyone, but most teams can be competitive with us too. League results to date ,-3,-1,+1 and 2 draws.

They came in with a minus55 points difference from 5 games. I'd have been more shocked, if they were good. With all of our current forward options, it was old man Conroy, and nobody else really, who took the pressure off Galway 2nd half, with those 2 timely two pointers.

Granted they are away next weekend, but Kerry will want to ensure they get to a league final. They are a different animal, and on their day, in a class of their own, and will want to see progression all the way from here on in.
