Replying To TanCanRan:  "There isn't six or seven pages with all the headlines about one 17-year-old though. That's the key difference.

Second paragraph is some spoof when I've shown you that a lot of the noise is internal."
Let's pretend for a moment that there were 7 pages on a local paper dedicated to one 18 year old (not true).

How many things have national media outlets put out in the last few days relating to him between podcasts and articles? Many multiples of 7 that's for sure. They clearly know people like you are infatuated and will click and listen no matter what it is.

Most of the western people articles aren't even freely available online so I fail to see how that contributes to hype!

Replying To anotheralias:  "Terrible stuff bothering to read a paper from another region. Nearly as obsessuve as going onto another county's HS forum."
I don't consider 'going onto another county's HS forum' obsessive, as I'm sure neither do you. It would be very boring to stay stuck in your own echo chamber and on occasion there can even be a bit of craic to be had (though increasingly less so these days). On the other hand, if I found myself, say, going out buying the Roscommon Herald purely to fuel a dislike of the team/place/people, I'd consider it time to take a good hard look at myself.

The level of pettiness on this forum is genuinely concerning. You can only imagine the kind of abuse he'll face on social media and here the minute he has an off day. Some people really need to take a long, hard look at themselves.

Are some members of the local and national media - and a few Mayo fans - getting carried away? Probably. But there are three full pages here of Galway and Roscommon supporters getting worked up about the media and Mayo fans getting worked up. Roscommon beat Galway, yet most of the outrage seems to be about an 18-year-old from Mayo receiving some media attention.

From what I can see, most of it is being driven by the national media. For goodness' sake, even Galway-based TG4 put together a montage set to a song by Olivia Dean.

Let's get back to discussing the actual football and cut out the nonsense. The moderators need to step up and clamp down on this kind of rubbish being posted.

Firstly, you said you rarely buy local papers - how would you know if it was true or not?

Secondly, point out what isn't true from my above post where I've literally given you a breakdown on each page. What are you contributing - other than "Not True".

How is a local paper contributing to the hype? By giving seven pages on an 18-year-old. That's how.

The Western People section was all over WhatsApp yesterday. You need to broaden your horizon.

The paper in general or this weeks addition? I don't know anything about that paper and what was or was not in it this week so don't really have an opinion. Some people seem to have a bit of an issue with it.

You've 3 posts on here and 2 of them are totally disingenuous.

The last three pages are the most action we've had here since the all Ireland final 24..... Fueled by mayos.
I'll summarize - Roscommon guy says mayo getting carried away and it would be awful funny if ros beat them in connacht semi.
Mayos get worked up, say we're not getting carried away.
Galway finally respond saying ye are and here's the evidence.
Mayos say nuh uh

Playground stuff

I've no doubt that's a cracking WhatsApp group you're in. Do ye cover death and funeral notices?

I would have to agree to disagree with you on this one. I have no issue with going on to other counties forum , but equally i have no problem reading newspapers from other regions. I honestly cant see the difference as they are both media outlets and external access is a means of trying to understand the temperature in other counties in either media outlet if someone so chooses to do. In addition i think you make an additional biased assumption that someone buying such a paper did so to fuel some bitterness. Not every one is as bitter as you appear to be.

What was once a great forum for discussing football has turned into something else entirely. It's exhausting to sift through the kind of nonsense people like you want to fill it with - reading the comments is enough to make a person's brain turn to mush. Good luck.

You said there were 7 pages all about one player.. that is not true. After every match you will have a match report, manager comments, various opinion pieces about the match along with several photos. Kobe obviously featured in them alongside other players/topics related to the match. That's the standard format every week. I'm sure Ryan O'Donoghue would feature heavily across every article in previous weeks.

Does your WhatsApp group be hopping every week with the Mayo News / Western People content?
