Very disappointed for all players but I think Joyce should stay. From stand today few things stood out. 1. Defence was very good. They won a lot of dirty ball and did more than enough. Remember meath only had 11 points after 55 min. 2. Midfield did average. But even they won ball and drove forward the main issue was. 3. Forwards . From first minute in stands I could see no movement from any players in forward lines. Thompson did his best. When maher, keĺly D'Arcy won ball in middle there was no options at all. When forwards did get ball they weren't helping each other with off shoulder runs or any support at all. Was ridiculous to see likes of maher running into trouble but having no help. They looked so flat. No 2 point efforts until 59th minute. This is where game was lost. We have seen this issue all year where the forwards at times don't have cohesion and are individual. And finally, we have too many forwards who won't or will never take shots at goal. Even half backs like mchugh have stopped shooting. Management lost it for them today. It's a real shame to see poor decisions being made which have let down a very talented squad. Lads being kept on that made a sub-par effort unless the ball was handed to them. Others then running the pitch but will never get the credit. I hope some of ye on this forum hang up your boots and go off to learn something real about the game, rather than the nonsense toxicity ye have been carrying on with this season. Some of these comments have been embarrassing and your support has been poor. There are so many lads on that team who can hold their heads high and be proud of what they have done, even if they didn't get the game time they deserve. End of the road for this team sadly. Would expect both Paul Conroy and Liam Silke to retire - both really outstanding servants. Hopefully both Shane Walsh and Damo give it another go. I think we look undercooked from an S and C perspective and I'm surprised not to have seen more mention of that. I also think we have got team selection wrong all year. It was crazy not to try out Conor Flaherty in the league, before dropping Gleeson mid championship and then putting him back in. Are we trying to destroy 2 goalkeepers? Maybe one of them is the answer, maybe neither of them are, but this year we have made a total mess of managing the position, which is now more important than ever. We had a few lads who didn't do great this year, particularly some of our defensive all stars from last year. We have one forward who has never done much as far as I can see. On paper and in public, I support the lads and management, and thank them for their efforts. In private, we/I are looking at relegation from division one, along with Mayo, if things don't pick up soon. Next March and April, if Galway relegated from division one, it should be goodbye Mr Joyce. That is how serious I am looking at the performances this year. Unless a change in attiude and style. From the outside looking in I don't see where Morris impacted on their play compared to previous seasons. Joyce has such strong beliefs in how to do things that I'd say it is difficult to break through that. Morris or Graham didn't seem to have much sway on match day unlike Cian O'Neill. That's why a direct comparison with Kieran McGeeney may not be appropriate as McGeeney seems more open minded to new approaches. Joyce's biggest issue in his term was playing injured players. In the early years he flogged lads like Sean Kelly and played them injured. Was it the mayo game in Limerick Kelly was limping around and was out for a year after ? This is the first year he tried to rest lads during the league but it took him till the 6th year to learn that because he played 3/4 injured guys in a final against Armagh. A lot of positives to take from 2025 - a new format, strong performances, and real progress. Peter Cooke made a big impact, Thompson is a serious emerging talent, and Sean Kelly is back from injury and looking at his best again. Comer's firing too, and Cian Darcy has really grown in confidence. John Maher had a solid year, and there's real promise coming through in Tomo. I genuinely hope no one retires or heads off to America for summer - we're not far away, and next year is a fresh opportunity. What matters now is rest and recovery so they will be ok next year. Don't post saying PJ should go without suggesting a viable replacement. At present, there is no Galway man that is a better option than him. So any replacement would need to come from outside the county. This brings its own risks and likewise, its own rewards. I hope I'm wrong but this current Galway Football Team doesn't have an All Ireland in them. I love this team and all its players, I love its deep bench, love Joyce, their fighting attitude, etc but I just don't see it. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong. Galway Abu. You can't jog towards inter county defences and expect results. Shocking game planning. They were coached to play that over and back stuff in the first half. When is the last time we blew away any team? We drop our levels to match our opposition and play our customary 10 minutes of attacking football when and only when we're in trouble.
