What has happened to John Daly? Was superb two or three years ago but isn't getting any game at all. Mulkerrin was brilliant against Dublin last but did get caught twice in possession but in fairness there was a lot of man marking so twas hard to come with ball at times. McDaid is a freak of nature in terms of his ball carrying and ball control under pressure while also soloing and bouncing a ball. Probably should of got man of the match. Sickened but in defeat you have to be gracious so Congrats to Galway. We couldn't close it after reeling ye back in and in fairness throughout I felt Galway were getting their scores easier than us. yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11553 - 05/05/2025 10:54:40 2606802 Link 2 |
One of the umpires should have been stepped back to look out for it potentially happening. I thought it was a basic enough call tbh. I think a two pointer at that stage may have put Mayo in the lead for the first time in the game. Poor reffing throughout but with new levels of fitness etc, it's not easy for any man on the middle. Anyway Galway the better team on the day. Ominous seeing they were without Comer, Walshnand Maher. The beginning of the end for Mayo? I thought O Shea struggled at time yesterday.

It was exactly the game and performance most Galway supporters expected. Beating a top eight team on their own pitch to take home our fourth in a row Connacht title. It doesn't make any difference to you whether we make a dent or not, look after your own business, Mayo not too far away if(which is a big if) they can get their finishing accuracy consistently up

What Galway people??Most Galway people knew this was going to be very close as it always is and most importantly the team did.

Great win and a very sweet way to do it we simply dug it out it was there for Mayo to win with 15 left but same old failings come back to haunt them wides and dropping shots short. Glesson made a great save but his kickouts were a struggle in 2nd half but a very strong wind. Coole made an eye catching difference & LOC settle the game with last score. Still on a high and when you think no Shane Damo & Maher off at ht the strength & depth is there looking forward to Dubs in 2weeks. If Maher out Cooke straight in Eire89 (Galway) - Posts: 326 - 05/05/2025 11:55:56 2606820 Link 1 |
Ryan also kicked that 2 point free several yards closer than where it was given, and it only just had enough distance as it was. PressureKick (UK) - Posts: 273 - 05/05/2025 12:04:13 2606821 Link 1 |
This is a direct quote from Clare aka S1234 and JimB1991 on the blog "@Larry david think so but that's not a penalty either it's a free at best." Clare a foul inside the big square is a penalty. I'm delighted you acknowledged it was a foul and thus a penalty. GDL (Galway) - Posts: 797 - 05/05/2025 13:04:49 2606830 Link 1 |
You can't pull at the arm or shoulder of a player when in the process of shooting.

A couple of worries and it's been touched on here, we got turned over too easy at times and panic we showed on the ball on occasion in the second half has to be a worry. Mayo also cut through us at times and got in for goals, better teams would have punished us. A lot to work on. ahsure. (Galway) - Posts: 1672 - 05/05/2025 14:29:42 2606842 Link 1 |
Gwan and post in the Donegal thread so if you think they are so good. Have you ever actually posted anywhere but the Galway football thread??

I don't agree with her that it was soft. He didn't pull his arm, he tapped it. A penalty in either case. He was right to do it or it was a goal. Well taken penalty. I don't think it cost us the game. Being too lackadaisacal in defence in the first half and not scoring in the last 15 minutes cost us. Galway's defending against the wind was very good when it needed to be to close out the game. Cooke very steady when he came on. Just strode out onto the pitch looking confident and composed when they eventually brought him on. Not convinced by the Comer and Walsh missing talk either. They'll need to earn their places. Joyce has a serious squad with annoyed players on the bench itching to get their chance.

Tell me how a human can clearly see if the ball was clearly not past the post before the keeper touched it. The TV camera angle isn't conclusive. Gleeson did great to get a touch on it.

The traffic before the match was very poorly managed and led to significant delays getting to Castlebar. Then sitting in traffic for 90 minutes after the end of the match trying to get out of Castlebar is beyond a joke. If it happened at Salthill you'd never hear the end of it. ROD 1st score in second half was from well outside arc so why was he so anxious holding up two fingers?? AOS took near 10 steps setting up hession chance and ref was hot on steps all day Free count 25-14 in mayo favour and while some of mayo's tackling was outstanding don't think we were overly ill disciplined. Glynn penalised for ball on ground rightly so, about 2 minutes later ruane does it even clearer in front of posts no free given. Was tierney tackle a black card ? jm25 (Galway) - Posts: 1496 - 05/05/2025 15:08:49 2606861 Link 0 |

Its a huge if, nothing to suggest Mayo will suddenly find the efficiency in attack neccessary to win an All Ireland. It was a win on Mayo's home pitch in fairness but there was nothing particularly convincing about it. Walsh and Comer are out injured more often than not, have they not learned to play without them yet? JimB1991 (Donegal) - Posts: 36 - 05/05/2025 15:20:09 2606865 Link 0 |
With all the Mayo whinging and complaing about the penalty and 2 pointers they are all avoiding the fact the free count was 25-14 in their favor, thought we had some scandalous calls against us especially for overcarrying. Great to get the job done without Walsh and Comer, that will give the panel and management a serious boost of confidence in themselves. Exciting few weeks and months ahead hopefully Galway456 (Galway) - Posts: 135 - 05/05/2025 15:57:16 2606873 Link 0 |
Don't really understand the big stink over the penalty. It was probably a 50/50 decision but far from the injustice that's made out. Defender had a little pull out of McGrath's arm as he was about to drop the ball onto his foot to shoot. It's a technical foul. What they are saying is the ref should have ignored it. But once you have a pull or drag out of a player in the act of shooting you run the risk that it will be blown up. Marooned (Galway) - Posts: 2382 - 05/05/2025 16:17:40 2606875 Link 1 |
