Amazing then that the result wasn't more decisive!

Anyone watch the Crokes v Dingle game ?Very enjoyable and fast pace. A lot of direct football or fast running. No ponderous, aimless lateral passing. Corner forwards were left up, they showed for the balland actually were given long balls to feed on. Refreshing to watch...old style but effective.

Replying To Triffic:  "Salthill look to have a good bit of firepower up front, should be good enough to reach the final, (barring meeting Corofin earlier), but may need a fit Finnerty to win it. These 2 look clearly ahead of the rest, with perhaps Moycullen best of the rest; Mountbellew appear static, as do Claregalway and Tuam.

A draw v. Dunmore in the final match would save Monivea, but more likely it will be the loser of them v. Caherlistrane to be relegated; Oughterard and Bearna would still seem to be slightly better.

Intermediate appears to be quite competitive in fairness. Have Caltra turned the corner? Bit of a surprise to see Kilkerrin overcome Breathnachs. Fancy Spiddal though, based on their scoring ability."
Mountbellew's decline is much more than static. They have regressed seriously since county final win. Going through a rebuild but just not enough younger players have come through to replace the losses. Eoin Finnerty, Patrick Kelly, Michael Daly, Shane Moran, Mark Mannion + others not available for different reasons . Plus a few retirements since county final win. Very lucky not to have shipped more goals v Caherlistrane , and if that happened would be in the mix for relegation now. I'd say that they will be very happy to have survived the year and would have little aspirations of troubling the current top 3. Would have been in serious trouble without Barry McHugh.
On the Barry topic , watching him v Caherlistrane really made me think of the whatifs in the Armagh game. He was dropped in February 2023 after playing 2 half games in FBD. These 2 games did expose his only weakness, which is a lack of a half yard of pace when it comes to intercounty level. I understand why PJ made that decision but even at the time I suggested that he should have been retained on the panel for 2 reasons, 1) While he would not be a first 15 player he could be a useful player replacement late in games when games open up a bit and 2) What if Shane Walsh got injured we had no reliable free taker.
And oh, how point 2 came to pass and nothing will convince me that if Barry had come on when Rob got injured , and with Barry in his current form and taking over some of the frees when Shane off form, that we would have got over the line v Armagh.

Is Ross Coen playing for the Corofin intermediates?

Not seen either of the Dunmore games, how has Colm Costello looked?

speaking your truth perhaps. dunmore only have themselves to blame, two games there for the taking and zero points to show for it

I couldn't agree more with you I wasn't at their first game only seen the highlights, but they will be blaming themselves that is for sure, im only pointing out that county players are really protected by officials that was very evident in that game, Annaghdown did well in the following game be interesting to see how far they go!

Clearly I would. I'd back Annagdown against that salthill team any day. Where do the Maroon and White power rankings come from? Is there any reason or method behind them

Well you will get a big price on Annaghdown if the two of them meet given Salthill are around 3/1 to win the championship and Annaghdown are 16/1. Personally I think Salthill would put them away fairly easily. Maher playing his best football, Thompson a massive addition and there aren't many club teams to stop the pace of Sweeney and O'Flaherty. They will win the championship if Rob is fit to play alongside Tomo.

Salthill have all the talent to win a county title, but they have struggled to put it together at times. Last year's championship was quite poor for them. On their day, they are a match for anyone I think, but they need better consistency. We might see it this year.

I think you're being a bit harsh there. Salthill reached county final in 2022and were unlucky to be beaten by Moycullen. A soft goal near the end and a referee decision that stopped a 4 on 2 run at the moycullen goal in the dying seconds with Sweeney, O Flaherty and Finnerty in full flight sealed their fate. In 2023 they lost the QF by 1pt again to Moycullen.

No they are just his rankings, to me they don't make since a team wins a game his moves them up and if they lose moves them down, he should name the winner the 4 teams to the semifinals and the 4 teams that will be in relegation and not change them and see how much he knows then,

I was referring to last year, where they had a very mixed campaign and some poor results for a team looking to contend for a county title. They were hammered in the group by Corofin and also lost to Barna, as well as drawing with Killannin. They ran Maigh Cuilinn to a point in the quarter-final, which sums up my point about their inconsistency.
They were obviously better in 2022, but it must be remembered that they were beaten by Mountbellew in the group that year, but ended up avoiding the big 3 in the knockouts (Corofin, Mountbellew and Maigh Cuilinn). They had a softish route to the final. Don't forget the goal they got in the final was also a fluke. It was a shot for a point which held up in the wind. If we're mentioning Maigh Cuilinn's soft goal, we have to acknowledge Salthill's as well.
To summarise, they are well capable of winning a county title, but need a more consistent level of performance.

I dont think that Annaghdown will beat Salthill but what annoys me about Salthill, Moycullen etc is that they get players in from outside. They can field 3 teams in every age group yet they have to rely on outside players. CG (my own parish) did something similar a few years ago (with James Nallen etc) and it was not good for the club. The new Salthill Goalie ( a Limerick man) replacing another goalie who was also from outside "the parish" and the full back is now from Roscommon. Eoin Gallagher going into Moycullen like FFS. People criticise Dublin clubs but Salthill, Moycullen, St James are no better. At lease Claregalway, Annaghdown, Dunmore etc are all from their own parish. So much for being born into the parish you play football/Hurling for. So are the Big three real teams or are the bought in teams. For all the Salthill lads who say they live in the parish, they dont. I know of one player who lives in Castlelawn heights. That is Eire Og. I would love to see Annaghdown, Dunmore, Milltown, Caherlistrane etc clubs with players from the parish alone but that wont happen.......... this year anyway. I was going to mention Corofin but they also had Mike Lundy from James.
