. Philly McMahon commented at one point in the 1st half that the ball up to the forwards was so slow getting there, it was no good for the likes of Walsh. We got away with it against Donegal, we didn't today. Armagh moved the ball noticeably quicker than we did."]Walsh missed SEVEN frees. And the surreal thing is that it's a movie we've seen before, when he starts kicking 'frees/marks' off both legs from the hand. It's been a disaster before, and it was a disaster today. The gas thing is, he put 4or5 fifty yarders on the ground in Castlebar two years ago, and kicked the lot to beat Mayo. Bottom line, he's an unreliable freetaker, and that singular aspect cost Galway dearly today."]Spot on regarding walsh....some of those frees could have been kicked with his right foot and a couple from distance should have been kicked off the ground. On his day he's one of the best in the country but he can be equally frustrating. Comer was completely out of it but a lot of that was down to galways slow build up play. Conroy, mcdaid, maher, D'Arcy kept ye in it but too many players underperformed. Couldn't understand why John daily didn't come on...he's good for a point. It's hard see Galway coming back from that conroy prob gone now definitely all star great years to Galway comer legs gone Walsh heaney also a lot of football played through the years biggest thing is after 5 years Galway have produced no new inside forwards , its being Finnerty , comer Walsh that's it when Finnerty went off injured surely if o connaile or tommo are inside forwards one of them should have come in brining on Molloy with 2 mins to go no sense bringing o flaherty on wing forward no sense he was actually on his wring side thought with 15 to go he should have come on for Mulkerrins where he is better suited , prob hard see management staying on now whoever does they need at least 5 new forwards in the squad not backs who play in forwards Kickitout (Galway) - Posts: 952 - 28/07/2024 21:18:39 2562351 Link 0 |
Ah look wharever you think. Armagh were the better side, Galway are not the unstoppable force some think they are.

100% but 2 things 1. We have brought through Cein Darcy, Maher the last 2 seasons not really a Tomo or a Rory Cunningham. The reason was obvious today. Teams have so many bodies back that inside forwards are redundant, that's why our scores are coming from our middle third players. 2. They are not being developed anymore probably because of the above. There is more chance of Sam O'Neill and Shay McGlinchey coming through next year than Colm Costello or Matthew Thompson. BTW Maher and Darcy were outstanding today. smallfrank (Galway) - Posts: 442 - 28/07/2024 21:33:39 2562357 Link 0 |

Stats say otherwise. They are not hard to find.

There must no sheep to shear or something. Have they closed down the Donegal thread because of your relentless idiocy? Galway had three great chances to tie up that game...even you must have seen that.

I think Galway and Armagh are at the same level and Armagh were better today. Thats what I think.

In 1983, AI final v Dublin was the most gutless performance by a Galway team ever seen in a final - today's performance imo, exceeds that. Really (Galway) - Posts: 622 - 28/07/2024 21:56:25 2562367 Link 1 |
Hard luck today, I thought Galway would be much better but they looked a bit nervous or something early on, will Joyce stay on now? Tirchonaill1 (Donegal) - Posts: 3019 - 28/07/2024 21:58:21 2562368 Link 0 |
Can't really srgue with that. As frustrated as we are with missed opportunities , we did miss them. Armagh were a little more clinical and ultimately the score board didn't lie. Armagh were 1 point the better team.

Sam O'Neill needs to be somewhere near being fit before we start considering him. Very talented but seems quite prone to injury. Thompson has to be close to the 26 next year. He is too good to be messing around with. Get a good look at him early next year.

Agree Darcy very good Maher same in fairness defense did well think Armagh backs prob got 5 points still can't understand giving up kicouts until about 65th min snd then pushed up snd won 3 of them why not do that when we went 8-6 up start second half it's baffling to me giving a team the ball and then try take it off then stop at source ,, if Galway are not going find inside forwards or if that not way forward no point having any then type players on panel at all but having a bench loaded with defender makes no sense when only one defender was taken off 2 day ,, as supporters we obviously are devestated but nothing like playes and management must be they put massive tone and effort in

I know but my point is the middle third runners will come through before the inside forwards, because that's the game. Our bench today had Tomo and Liam O'Conghaile the rest, Molloy, Daly, Sean and Eoghan Kelly, Heaney, Sweeney. It meant when Finnerty gets injured after 8 minutes it disrupted things more than it should have. Hindsight is great I know

Ball into small square for goal was there for goalie to challenge for. Dylan McHugh has been scapegoated. Walsh wad also covering that area. Ball and man comes to mind. Really (Galway) - Posts: 622 - 28/07/2024 22:23:49 2562381 Link 1 |
Don't think they were gutless. They just didn't execute. Got off 13 more shots than Armagh. Dominated possession. They just missed too many chances.

Anyone that posts gutless or any other similar remark aren't Galway posters the mask has slipped for them. 26 shots Galway had today Armagh 19 so it was certainly All Ireland that was there to be won for Galway and as you say dominated possession.

Donegal flopped in the home straight of the All Ireland semi final. It seems that Donegal have not got over the disappointment of that defeat and are rejoicing in Galway's defeat today. Remember Donegal might have won the Ulster title defeating Armagh and well as winning the Div 2 final also defeating Armagh. Tonight Armagh are kings of football. Perhaps your bitterness should be towards Armagh and Donegal won two meaningless titles this year. Jack L (None) - Posts: 3140 - 28/07/2024 22:39:47 2562390 Link 1 |
