Replying To anotheralias:  "I dont think its that clear cut.
Ros versus Derry, agreed.
But Dublin versus Armagh/Donegal loser
And
Cavan versus Westmeath
balance out.

I would agree that they are the 2 toughest groups but if Galway have any aspirations they should come out of either . And if we are to top group and get straight to QF we would have to beat Dublin in CP in one scenario Or beat Derry in Sathill in the other. Derry are a quality side but I think the latter would be the less difficult task"
You have the added benefit in group 2 however that you avoid Dublin if you make the QF and SF thereafter. Obviously the same scenario would apply to Derry from group 1 but I think the majority of the country have Dublin as AI favorites and the team to beat at the moment

There's about two months of irrelevant 'championship' football after the league. Its hard get exited about it until knock out. The game Sunday makes no difference except the obvious satisfaction in beating our neighbours. That being said, if they left the draw until after match it would have meant more. Time to scrap the provincials and If two teams came out of the groups, straight into q final we would get more quality games.

Replying To yew_tree:  "Don't see either team holding back. As mentioned above you can't beat momentum and a bit of silverware. I actually think the Connacht winners will fancy their chances v Derry at home."
It'll be very hard for either management team to hold back now a few days before the game when their main strategy seems have been to win Connacht to be first seeds in their group all year.

Yeah I think that's the mindset to adopt about the whole thing.

Will McDaid make the 26 man matchday squad?

Are the Connacht champs hardwired to meet the leinster champs at semi stage, if both make the last 4? I think they are. Arguably, that's another disadvantage to winning next Sunday's game, on the basis that Dublin are better than Kerry. It'll be all about preferences in poison picking at semi final stage anyway.

On balance I agree that the Connacht Final is still worth winning, and we owe Mayo a beating.

The GAA repeatedly put themselves in positions where they shoot themselves in the foot, as typified with the asinine decision to do the draw before provincial finals were played. You'd swear it was the FAI or IRFU making the decisions for us - go on lads, make the draw now, you know it's the right call!! Crazy to now have teams slightly off going full throttle into these finals. They've downgraded the provincial finals' importance in doing this and have now further impacted spectator numbers for the provincial finals. Insane. Anyway, I hope Galway can show some true bite and spring a big surprise, as nobody in the know is giving us much of a chance v McStay and Rochford's well prepped and super fit Mayo.

You'd have to fancy Galway on Sun. The younger lads who got good game time in league will be ravenous. The senior players should be so primed too. Can't see anything other than an emphatic Galway win.

Also think Mayo are fooling themselves highlighting the fact that the more experienced Galway players are/will be the wrong side of 30. Try telling that to Fitzsimons, Cluxton, Kilkenny, McCarthy, Mannion and others.
Galway 2-16 Mayo 1-13.
Gleeson man of the match

I would say it will be down on other years. Its not a knockout game, in fact some are suggesting its better to lose. The weather is promised good which is a plus, getting sick already thinking about trying to navigate the traffic. I think many Galway supporters will wait and see the team sheet before deciding.

Not a hope will Mayo conceded 2-16 or anything close to it with the way both Rochford and Buckley have them set up without the ball and every player working like tigers to win it back and force the opposition to shoot from areas they don't want. A low scoring dog fight of contest if the more likely outcome on Sunday.

I think the tongue is firmly in the cheek here, or you've been got at and brainwashed as a double agent by the Mayo PsyOps, Propoganda and Disinformation unit, located somewhere between Blacksod and Belmullet!

I can see Joyce making maybe 2 changes from Sligo match he generally doesn't do anything drastic well not in last 4 years anyway think be same goalie backs and midfield prob see comer and maybe Sweeney in from start with o conaghaile and McCabe to loose out ,, I'd like see Maher start midfield with Darcy Kelly at center back Daly on wing but I know that won't happen

Still a few lads on the sideline - I heard McDaid, Tierney and Culhane are all ruled out through injury.

That's my best 26 for Sunday I can only justify 4 forwards starting and no forwards on bench are IC standard yet shocking indictment of coaches.

We can still win but you'd look at bench and can only see molloy oflaherty proven to give impact
