Replying To Dunmore10:  "John daly is too slow kickin the ball, was blocked twice last weekend, he is nt good enough at centre back, maybe wing back but certainly not centre back"
I've heard it all now. Two below par games now mean John Daly can't play 6. He has been the best centre back in the country the last three seasons.

John Daly at 6 is probably the most nailed down position we have at the moment, except the excellent Gleeson in goal ...

We should definitely change an all star centre back having conceded 0-12 and 0-09 in the last two games.

I do think Daly at 6 is being found out struggling big time when his man moves him across the half back line mighr be more suited to wing back ,, as for the pass to Finnerty it was at his toes pass was average at best Finnerty did unreal to get it , Daly passing way 2 slow takes about 5 solos over 10 yards needs move ball faster also has a tendency to punch pass ball to forwards from 8 -10 yards need use hand pass not punch the amount of ball Galway give away from punching passes instead of hand pass and there a massive difference trying to receive a punch pass or hand pass ,,

I think what he is getting at is that you are complaining about John Daly being slow to kick the ball when you defend Conor Gleeson to the hilt when he has the same problem.

I definitely don't think wing-back would suit him better than centre-back. The modern day wing-back has to be quick and very athletic. They need to cover a huge amount of ground and break at pace when needed.
Daly is not the fastest and could really struggle with a quick wing-forward. He's generally a good kicker of the ball and tends to read the game well. He can struggle with direct runners through the middle, but then so would most centre-backs without the support. When Kilpatrick made his run through in the 1st half on Sunday, it was actually Molloy who got brushed out of the way, which was very unlike him. He still has a way to go to get back to his pre-injury levels.

Daly is the best 6 we have and wouldn't be better at half back, simple as. My point was that (in my opinion) pretty much every position could change come championship except 6 and 1 (excluding injury) but I was wrong once before so yad never know

Exactly, and bear in mind more space in Croke Park (hopefully we get there) where he can pick out his kick passes and hopefully we have Comer inside as target man, not much to aim at currently bar Finnerty.

Conceded 2 goals in 3 matches, one was a penalty and the other was clearly D'Arcy falling asleep. We've enough issues without adding John Daly to them, there were signs on Sunday of improvement and when he has Comer/Walsh to kick too its a different ball game. Conn Killpatrick is a very strong runner with the ball, very few have his size, power and speed so wouldn't be getting too carried away.

Galway u20's played Cork in a challenge last Saturday, team below.

GALWAY: E McGrath; B Mitchell, P Godwin, B Noone; J Folan, J Lonergan, S O'Connor; S Hansberry, R Kavanagh; C Mulhern, M Thompson, R Colleran; C Costello, S Birmingham, F MacDonncha.

Subs: C Heneghan for Colleran, S Canavan for Folan, C Murphy for Hansberry, C Greaney for O'Connor, K Mitchell for Colleran, E Brady for Noone.

A good few names I don't recognise from the u17 panels of recent years. Just the 2 from the All Ireland winning team of 2 years ago.

How close is that to their full team or are they missing a few?

Suppose it depends on injuries but there's at least 3 lads who were involved last year and didn't play last Saturday.

NUIG were in the freshers final was last night so don't know what impact that had either.

Yeah Luc O Connor started for the 20s last year & Daithi Kilcommons came on as a sub to name just 2 anyway.
Not sure what the makeup of the panel is though

I was wondering about this. A big strong target man is needed.
