Replying To galwayman2:  "Why do you say that re Mayo?
That's their strongest 15 bar Ruane and Diarmaid O Connor.
Galway missing a lot more.
D'arcy presumably there as a kickout option at wing forward. Don't think he's up to it but hope to be proven wrong.
O Curraoin looks a good player - I reckon it was a decision between him and Liam O Conghaile.
O Conghaile is quality albeit usually a half forward line player. He was the main man for the u20s last year until he got injured."
I just remembered we were missing Liam O'Conghaile in last years U20 Connacht final, the decision that PJ made not to release the team Captain Daniel O'Flaherty from the senior squad and Jack McCabe only been a sub and now making the Senior squad, what were the selectors thinking.

Replying To Alwaysencourage:  "Oran Burke was never going to start ahead of Conor Gleeson. He only started FBD because Conor Flaherty was injured.Same thing was done to Conor Flaherty and Bernie Power.Dont know why."
Conor Gleeson wouldn't have been my first choice keeper, however he has improved year on year and the management must see something. We don't have all the facts. Conor will know the set plays and strategy. The first game of the league against Mayo is not a game to be experimenting with a keeper.

It coukd be a tough game 2 morrow Galway prob missing 6 players who come championship should start , Jack Glynn , Sean Kelly , Liam silke
Cillian mcdaid, tierney , Finnerty,,in the long run Galway definitely need play with 3 scoring forward in full forward line , and not be giving up kickitout to opponents which looking at team 2 morrow they will drop Cathal sweeney back to protect full back line which is weak in my opinion,,hopefully I'm wrong but think mayo by 3

Replying To smallfrank:  "Galway are in the Top 5 teams in Ireland.
Gleeson isn't in the Top 5 keepers in Galway.
Scooby Doo could tell you that"
I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but I'd like to know who you would rank 1-5 best goalkeepers in Galway.

Having a keeper who can comfortably play outfield now is an absolute must.
Yesterday's games alone prove that.
Conor Gleeson unfortunately cannot play that type of roll as I'm sure will be proven.
Flaherty can...
Travelling today in more hope than expectation.
An early loss for either team could prove very costly

If we can win today I will be impressed, but I'm concerned at possibility of full back line being exposed. Very hard to deal with pace of McLoughlan and Conroy. Hoping for the best.

Just in Pearse stadium. Seats are filthy. Place looks terrible. Is it too much to ask that it is cleaned every couple of years!

Surely they could have a scheme in here power washing the place.

Comer out now as well. Tough to get 2 points today.

Kickouts are all over the place. Sean Fitz getting beat by Aidan O'Shea is atrocious.

Not much to be said for that first half. Fitzgerald getting absolutely roasted. Heaney way off the pace. O'Conghaile two good points but two bad wides. Midfield hammered on our own kickout. Horrendous stuff but no surprise once the team was announced.

Some very poor wides. AOS a good player but he shouldn't be roasting anyone with his pace.

Some good tackles put in and somehow we are still in touching distance of them. A great 2nd half needed.

Galway down a lot of players but they looked a disorganised mess in that half. Why is Darcy marking McLaughlin? You could see after 5 minutes that he's too slow to keep up with him.

Only bright spot is O'Conghaile kicked 2 great points.

Lots of problems, kick outs, midfield, half forward line not tackling or tracking, forwards not firing other than a debutante

Another woeful performance in a large collection since PJ took over, maybe even the worst 35mins in his 4th year. So much for improvement sticking with someone huh?.

Personally I'd have got rid of him after year one, when you can't even see the importance of restarts(pressing and retaining) in year one, you certainly won't in any subsequent year.

Just like the AI game last year, Mayo win a long aimless kick out and run it back into the net, has the fella ever watched a Dublin game?... How often do you see Dublin, Cluxton or not just bomb slow and aimless restarts down the field?.. it's unreal.. like a rugby team going out and not having worked on lineout calls and just flaking it in... It's that level of needless preparation and unprofessionalism.

Not much better to say about the in play efforts, if our best efforts with a gale are lads taking on long range pot shots we will have nothing in the second half against the wind.
Mayo completely outplayed then in every facey, even with a man down we still couldn't pin them back with the elements.

Dour stuff and on that first half we will be relegated with ease.

The only saving grace about this year is he's unlikely to get a 5th year so this should be the last year of pain.

Terrible first half; time for new management. We are playing football from 10 years ago. Even the players look lost, no idea what they are supposed to be doing. If we don't change management now, div 2 football and out of championship early.

It's not just the kickouts we are all over the place mayo are running right trough us there movement and off the shoulder running has been really good, we look like we have never played together before, on the plus side O'Conghaile looks like he could slot in up top no problem, hopefully we can improve in the second half he will have to make changes

I know players are missing but I just don't get the set up. Heaney, Sweeney, D'Arcy, Daly starting in the forward line. There is just no way you can score enough with them starting. Joyce seems allergic to playing on the front foot with scoring forwards. Finnerty, O'Curraoin could easily have started which might have troubled that Mayo back line.

Also Niall Daly in for Comer at the start only to have to sub him off after 20 minutes? Felt for Daly as he was asked to do a. Job he's not suited to.
