Replying To Clancesee:  "It's never nice to see a team go down, especially a team that feels they belong at senior level. To a certain point I felt for Michael's in the sense under different rules they could've been in a 1/4 final and they chanced their arm that the appeal might work, however the senior championship doesn't finish after the group stages and it's up to the clubs themselves to battle on the best they can to ensure safety. There's a lot being said that Michael's had a hangover from the appeal that's one thing I don't buy ,for most they were still the favourites out of the 4 teams in relegation to get the most points,I'd imagine the manager still had training 3 times a week and that the panel that would be playing had to show up and put in the work, if they didn't then that's their own fault. I think it's fair to say that Killannin and Lettermore did and I'm sure spiddal did their best also but were dealt a blow that Finnian went abroad again as their team changes completely when he's not in it. A lot of teams can have troubles in camp Annaghdown didn't even field a team for their division 1 relegation league game earlier in the year and they managed to bring Alan Glynn in and stayed out of relegation and will look to push on again next year, Lettermore had trouble all year with their manager and got rid of him when the group stages were almost over they looked as if they had no hope and were a changed team for the relegation battle. A lot of teams have their own problems in some way or another that can turn things upside down just that some are more documented than others depending on the team we are talking about ,things can change very quickly for teams and it's how you react and bounce back from it that shows what kind of metal you have. Personally I would've had Caherlistrane ,Dunmore and even Milltown struggling more than they did this year ahead of Killannin and Michael's but to their credit coaches and players did very well did what they had to do and it will be a big boost especially for Dunmore to have another year senior with the younger lads they have having the experience of those tough games this year even the relegation play off with killannin will have brought them lads on far more than if they didn't have to play it."
Listened to the post match interview on galway bay 8 under 19s played for Killannin on Saturday. Nothing like a relegation battle to put hair on their chest. They obviously didnt want to be there but those games will stand to those lads more than an appearance in a quarter final.

Their U19 team hopefully can bring that experience to the final.

Replying To GalwaysFinest:  "Does Egan have another year at u20? If so, I'd leave him to focus on that, then bring him in when the u20 is over. Good talent but theres no rush.

What age is Glenn Kelly?

Agree re Dessie and Eoin Finnerty etc. But its very hard to not include them in the panel and take a chance on them when they're consistently delivering in the club championship. It must be frustrating for any intercounty manager to see.

I watched a lot of senior club championship matches over the last few years and I dont think there are too many names jumping out. We have a good squad of players but it is always the same tried and tested lads doing the business for their clubs."
Sometimes a player can be excellent at one level and just not able to make the jump to the next. Smart enough to identify defenders the are faster than and exploit. But maybe that opportunity doesn't exist at the higher level.

Other players, maybe not be as consistent at club level may have something that works at higher level.

Dessie C and Eoin Finnerty seem to struggle at higher level.

Fairly sure he was.

The Corofin jobs holds a lot of weight though as we saw with Rochford, wouldn't be a hue surprise if Sligo come knocking but then again this could be PJ's last year.

I was told Johnson lives 'near Knockdoe'. Not sure where exactly so he could be living in Corofin, Claregalway or Annaghdown territory based off that.

Does anybody know?

Replying To tommy k:  "Agreed its time to give youth their chance - James McLaughlin deserves an extended run in the league also. Along with the likes of Patrick Egan, Tony Gill and Glen Kelly they would appear to be the future of Galway football."
There's a fair chance McLaughlin won't be around if he gets the call for Australia. Don't think Gill is county standard. Kelly is an outstanding free taker but is that needed if he is never going to take frees ahead of Walsh, Cooke, Tierney or even Finnerty?

I think you will see a lot of last years squad with Silke, Mulkerrin and Molloy back and then Cillian O Curraoin and Sam O'Neill added when fit.

Kilconly have indeed missed there chance as have Arann

Michaels to return to senior next year. Spiddal are the only ones who could get near them.

With two going down next year again there will be many clubs looking in the back mirror scared of relegation particularly if you get a tough group or a spate of injuries.

Very worrying the drop of in interest in football back west with teams being relegated Carroroe Spiddal etc. Rugby doing untold damage Í suspect.

I think Rory Cunningham definitely need get a fair chance top scorer intermediate this year also Mairtin Quinn outside of Liam silke prob best man marker in Galway players like thst need be given a chance but unfortunately if past history is anything to go on management prefer bring in most of Moycullen. Salthill and Mountbellew lads ..

Unfortunately from what I am hearing we need not to worry about McLaughlin going to Australia they were supposedly disappointed with him his 2km time trial was over 7 minutes.

There was an excellent post further back on this thread highlighting lads who had put their hands up and it mentioned lads like Nathan Grainger, Tony Gill, Patrick Egan, Sam O'Neill, Jack Kirrane and a few more. You'd think all of those would be in with a shout of a panel and if Sam O'Neill is fit, he would be close to the team. He was brilliant until he got hurt.

I know I am biased but I really think Patrick Egan and Brian Cogger are 2 serious prospects. Both should be in.

Didn't he have a hit with that song 'Rock and Roll I gave you' some years back? Could be living in Memphis?

I think some posters need to stop and think before posting .. A few guidelines that we should all try to adhere too.
At an individual level, praise is good, but we need to be a bit more careful about criticism. At a team level criticism is fine , but at an individual level we all have an onus to be more careful . I'm not saying that we cannot say anything negative about an individual but this should be done in a more sensitive manner. I'm sure that I've been guilty myself in the past of this , but i try to be more careful now.
Comments like " I will get sick" if A, B or C is playing for Galway., quoting individuals time trial performance results or looking for details of where somebody lives, all cross the line as far as I am concerned.

I think its back to 1 up 1 down as we have reached the magic number of 16 which I totally agree with. 4 groups of 4. I do hope though its top 2 from each group in to quaters with 3rd in group safe & than bottom of each group in a relegation battle. I dont agree with 3rd of group of 4 getting into Pre QF.

Players from a bad Brendan's team at intermediate is not the solution to Galway's issues.

So unless u play senior ur no good just as David Clifford not in Galway he never get picked ,, Rory Cunningham definitely best forward in intermediate football by a mile , and Mairtin Quinn definitely best defender so is it there fault st Brendans are intermediate maybe if they moved to Mountbellew they could be brought in with the other 8 from Mountbellew I'm sure Moycullen would take them ,,

That was me and if you go even further back the thread I highlighted Egan after seeing him partner with Sam O'Neill at U20 level in Tuam for Galway. I think my exact comment was that he looked like a baller and was nearly the Corofin prototype in that he did all the basics almost perfectly. O'Neill is different in that he's an athlete and gets up and won the pitch. Only found out lately that he's a grandson of Billy O'Neill who won an All Ireland with Galway in 1956 alongside Purcell and Stockwell and also hurled for Galway, definitely has the athletic pedigree so.
I still think there's inter county potential in Liam Costello also and recently I would add Gavin Burke. Grainger has been good this year every day out.
