Galway are not a Leinster team however one tries to dress it up. The provincial system needs to go to achieve the best and fairest results in the All-Ireland series. If provinces want to keep them that is their business. Go for it. The top two teams in a province from a league style championship play a final. Go ahead knock yourself out but stop using a flawed system to decide who are the best two teams in the All-Ireland final. It is as flawed as any system ever used in the past.

Maybe we'd have a preliminary Leinster final with the winners playing relegated Galway in the real final.

If you feel so bad about Carlow getting relegated, why don't you complain about it to the Leinster Council rather than whinging about it on a Galway thread?

Its not sour grapes but can anyone on here point out an occasion when any Galway team or player got off with blue murder.
I agree we must start breeding a few more Silvie Linnanes or Brendan Lynskys who can dish it out as well as take.
Galway have always been too nice. What a shame to have to say that about amateur players.

It is interesting to read through the comments here where it looks like a blame game with either the County Board, Management or the Players which is fair to a point. The support our hurlers has recieved for the last 3 years has been really poor until they got to the semi final stage like last year. At that stage many jumped on the bandwagon.
Credit has to be given to the like of the Wexford supporters when things looked bleak like before the Galway game did they abondon the team? No they got behind their team. When the team needed support they came out in droves.

If you want a big crowd going to Galway home games well the don't play them in Pearse Stadium ffs.
Play them in Athenry and the place would be packed with a great atmosphere for supporters and players alike.

Not EVERY time no. Galway won the 2017 all-ireland, when they were favourite to win every single match in that campaign.

I've nothing against 'Leinster referees'. You're own county man Barry Kelly is a legend of Galway hurling imo.

Well if you can't see that Galway's involvement in another provinces championship has consequences for a county such as Carlow and that therefore comment about this is appropriate on a Galway thread then I suggest you should stand back and look again and maybe even the blind might see.

No more than ourselves this year, the fact is that Carlow weren't good enough.
But if complaining about it here keeps you happy, knock yourself out.

I suggest you look back at the state of the Leinster hurling championship during Brian Cody's time as KK manager and ask yourself why were Galway invited to play in the Leinster championship in the first place.

Personally I don't think outside managers work for a county like Galway. It should be a Galway man that knows the hurling culture inside out - clubs, players etc. It didn't work with Keating, Loughnane, McIntyre, O'Neill and now Shefflin. It did work in large spells at least with Farrell and Donoghue along with Cunningham who laid the groundwork for Donoghue to get over the line. Also I do think the injuries to the likes of Morrissey, K. Cooney, Concannon and C. Mannion along with unlucky injuries picked up by Glynn and Ryan had a detrimental effect on the team. In saying all that, the energy and belief still appeared to be missing all year as the players didn't seem to know what the gameplan / tactics were which is the job of management and of course the lack of pace and power that younger players would probably have given was completely missing as younger players were not brought through or were cut from the panel. The Galway supporters are fickle and if they don't believe in the project they will not turn up at the games and it seems they didn't believe in the project any longer or saw no discernable signs of progress - in fact it was clear signs of regress they saw. Also (and it may be a small thing) but when Joe Canning retired, there is no real marquee player to get behind that can pull games out of the fire or can excite a crowd with an unexpected piece of brilliance (perhaps Whelan and C. Mannion are the closest currently but Whelan was out of form this year) and that turns off supporters also.

In the immediate years before you joined Leinster the AI Championship wasn't much better that way.
