Replying To galway19:  "Would disagree on the argument around new players. Declan McLoughlin was in cracking form prior to injury and was starting all games earlier before the hand injury and would be close to a starting spot in this team for championship. Gavin Lee was off the pace yesterday but was good against Tipp. Also don't see why we would be changing much when we have been in the top 4 with Limerick, KK and Clare the last few years. Its tweaks required rather than wholesale new faces. Clare not bringing through many new lads this year (maybe Sean Wrynn) and Kilkenny definitely won't be. Tipp the other night brought on Bonner Maher. Cork will try new lads but will still end up with Harnedy, Horgan and Lehane. When you have established players of an above average level it's very hard to bring in younger players who will be inconsistent. I suppose it's fine to blood loads of young lads if you have no interest in trying to beat Limerick."
Yes McLoughlin looks the most promising no doubt. A lot of the Galway "newer players" e.g. Killeen, Lee, Niland, Collins etc. are good stickmen and are skillful but are not good at "roughing it" so to speak i.e. putting their bodies on the line, being physical and winning "dirty ball". A lot of the time they are too easily pushed off the ball. The last Galway player I can think of that has those attributes is Fintan Burke and before him the likes of Conor Whelan and Daithí Burke. You have to be able to mix it with the Limericks of this world to have any chance. I disagree that Clare are not bringing through newer players - one could see against KK (who were practically at full strength) the last day that they have brought through the likes of Hogan, Leen, Lohan, Rodgers and Meehan who can hold their own physically (their S&C seems a long way ahead of Galway currently) and can take / create scores themselves and that is why Clare have been closest to Limerick in recent years and even beat them in Munster last year.

Sorry I forgot to say that Clare have brought through the likes of Smyth also. We in Galway would be very happy if we could get half that number breaking through into the Galway first 15!

It's a double bill in Pearse Stadium next Saturday, 16 March.
Galway v Limerick, 1.15
Galway v Dublin, 3.15

Both Galway hurlers and footballers are live on TG4 and RTE respectively, but I still would expect 20,000 plus at it.
I am going for Galway to win both.

A lad could attend that double bill and listen to the IRELAND RUGBY MATCH on the way home while caught in traffic. Hon Galway and Ireland.

Will be interesting to see who fills in for Whelan against Limerick. Concannon looked very rusty on Sunday so might be worth giving him a full game to get up to speed. Niland will probably start so maybe Conor Cooney plays on the inside line instead of Flynn. Collins and McLoughlin must be close to being back on the bench at least.

I hope your not as defeatist as you were when Galway were playing Roscommon when you suggested Galway might as well give the 2pts to the Rossies!
Oh poor Galway without Burke and Whelan (hurlers) Walsh and Comer (footballers) we haven't a hope of winning both?
Can't wait for Saturday, Galway will be fired up and ready for action in both hurling and football.

Exactly. Can't see too many but the die-hard away fans travelling on Saturday. Given the rain that's falling today and with more forecast for Saturday, it's 50/50 that both will go ahead at that.

They'll get way more than that for a Saturday on a bank holiday weekend. The Dubs travelled in big numbers last time they came to Salthill and that was a bank holiday weekend as well

There's a lot of difference in a wet bank holiday weekend in the middle of March, and a warm sunny one in June.

I agree, not to mention a lot would want to watch the rugby as well, typical ridiculous scheduling by the GAA. It is not 1970 anymore, and the GAA need to understand that people want to watch their country playing, so for me it's the rugby on Saturday, although I will watch the hurling and football on TG4 prior to the rugby kicking off.

Don't see the hurling listed as being shown now on the homepage here. Just the football at 3:15

Lads up against it facing Limerick tomorrow. It is unlikely we can get anything out of the match to be honest. I'm not sure what kind of team Limerick will field as I think they have already qualified as if Tipp win they will still not pass Limerick given they were beaten, the focus must be on a Leinster title.

Limerick have already named a team. Hannon back at 6. Sean Finn back on bench. Forward line of O'Brien, Lynch, Morrissey, Gillane, Flanagan and English. Hegarty on the bench as well.

If we win we are through, no matter what happens elsewhere. Down to score difference then between Tipp and Limerick. Tipp would have to annihilate Antrim to go past Limerick's score difference but Antrim are brutal so that is very possible.

Limerick could miss out if they lose, as there would be 3 teams tied if Tipp win. So head-to-head wouldn't come into it and it would go to scoring difference. It's highly unlikely though.

Galway hurlers Sat 1pm and St Raphaels in the All Ireland Collages Final Sat 1.15 are both down for TG4 according to Hoganstands Fixtures?????
This must be wrong.......I think it's only St Raphaels on TG4 and the Galway hurlers are not on TV.
