A proper hurler will always play the whistle. There was no green flag, no whistle blown, no goal awarded. There was an umpire on each side of the goalposts, maybe you should get in touch with them and ask them if they're embarrassed.

What some people l(ike claret and blue) are forgetting is that OLG could / should have got at least 3 red cards for the Heary and Molloy "tackles" as well as Lawlor (who was already on a yellow card from the first half) pulling down Conor Cooney when he was straight through on goal in the second half but James Regan was the sacrificial lamb for all those "discrepancies" even though I could see very little contact myself in that incident despite the dramatics of the OLG player.

Shane Cooney has started for Galway before, and not always to rave reviews.

One factor that you may not have considered for your 'findings' here, is any potential gulf in class between the OLG forwardline, and for example the Limerick intercounty forwardline.

Thomas's were worthy winners. I honestly didn't think they'd beat Ballygunner but their fierce determination and will to win got them over the line. The same qualities were evident yesterday, along with huge amounts of skill, of course. Eanna Burke's winning point was right up there with Joe Canning's wonder score against Tipp in 2017. I have good time for Sean Stack as a referee but he made a few wrong calls yesterday, especially in relation to red card decisions. On balance I don't think OLG can have any complaints - the better team won, without a doubt.

Limerick have dominated because of their speed. They hurl fast, think fast, everything is fast and decisive. They make space on the pitch, run into that space, and find the man in space. There's alot more to their game than size.

Comparing club hurling to inter county hurling is a nonsense.

Injuries were a big factor in the last couple of years for Shane and to be fair he was solid enough (despite the odd mistake and what back doesn't make a mistake?) in most of the games I saw him play in anyway. The biggest disappointment in the Galway backs for me in the last number of years has probably been Padraig Mannion. For all his attributes and skills as a player, he never really kicked on from the 2017 / 2018 season and in particular the 2018 final where he underperformed as he was in hurler of the year form up to that match. Conor Cooney in the forwards could be added to that category also along with Jason Flynn.

True and I must say that I was very impressed with Thomas's unheralded / lesser known players who were true warriors like Kelly in goals, Sherry (unfortunate injury he suffered), Duggan, Cathal Burke, Headd, Finnerty, Manso and Flannery.

congrats to st. thomas yesterday..what a club they are and we should be lucky to have them in galway..in conditions like that it was always going to be difficult but once again led by davy burke they found away to win.. gbay (Galway) - Posts: 264 - 22/01/2024 13:34:52 2521532 Link 1 |
Great to see Daithí O'Sé in the stands celebrating with his family. He is a Kerry man living in Peterswell but he is now more Thomas's than Thomas's themselves! tommy k (Galway) - Posts: 3470 - 22/01/2024 15:41:11 2521566 Link 2 |
It's amazing David Burke ever togged out again after his injury. Many thought he'd never play again. Fair play to him.

But sure that's what happens when one knits into the community....with his children being educated there now! I'd say not many between Peterswell, Castledaly and Kilchreeeeeeresssssst stayed away from the stands to be quite frank! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2471 - 22/01/2024 16:58:56 2521587 Link 1 |
David Burke is a legend, he is up there with Canning at Galway level and delivered a savage and defiant performance yesterday. I'm not from Thomas but close by and was roaring them on yesterday as Burke seemed to roll back the years to be everywhere on the pitch just savage determination, skill, battle. Oh that David was 23 and Galway would be safe in midfield for another decade. JahTribe (Galway) - Posts: 155 - 22/01/2024 17:28:47 2521591 Link 1 |
