Should we all be 'Dublin city clubs' now, Father?"
No we could all be Fr Dougal's and think that our clubs are competitive and have a chance of winning on any given day. In reality the clubs with the revenue to pay for facilities, S&C, equipment and coaching are going to be the most successful going forward. That doesn't come cheap.

The only one that I might change here is Sarsfields, but again depends on which version shows up for the game.

Imo Sarsfields are a bit better than Clarinbridge and will account for Oranmore. I think Loughrea will beat Clarinbridge but it will be closer than the sparrow thinks!

I think Thomas's and Loughrea will win but I don't think it will be as handy as you believe. Clarenbridge will surely give Loughrea a good fight.

Not sure Sarsfields have the backs to deal with that Oranmore forward line. Morrissey can take Niall Burke but Oranmore have four or five other good options with plenty of pace in their forwards. Clarinbridge Loughrea will be tight.

I don't think clarinbridge Vs loughrea will be tight. Ardrahan will rue their misses against the bridge in the stadium. Loughrea will have 5-7 PTS over them in the end... in my opinion of course.

I wouldn't think the intermediate hurlers are too worried about you either.

Replying To BostonGuy:  "If you read the article it discussed the paid coaches at club level, not players and how much they are getting compensated. At this stage its more supplemental income for these coaches, but they are getting paid and certain clubs ARE paying. I don't think Mulqueen was coming up from Clare to Mellows for the crack a couple of years ago and there are many others on the coaching circuit. Now how and where these clubs are coming up with the money coz they definitely are is the question. 15k is a lot of bingo, lotto and pints at the bar, the Dublin "city" clubs seem to be better than most at raising revenue and I dont think they are relying on some Sheikh to do it."
I did read the article.

It was a pretty well written and researched piece I thought, but…

If clubs want to hire outside 'expertise' and can fund this, surely it's a matter for themselves and the coach in question. Some clubs are more wealthy/have more resources than others. That has always, and will always, be the case. Just as at IC level where the same applies.

It's not the thin end of the wedge though in 'professional terms'. Good coaches will get rewarded for their expertise. Poor coaches will be found out. Players aren't stupid. A poor coach won't be on the circuit for long.

The real question is whether he can bridge the S&C gap that exists between a club hurler (even a very good one) and an IC hurler at his age. I'm not saying he can't, but I am saying he absolutely will have to.

When an IC level defender hits you (legally) you stay hit, unless you can handle it. That takes time.

Indeed it doesn't (come cheap).

Was there a point you were trying to make that I missed?

Such clubs have always tended to be the most successful overall anyway. So what has actually changed?

He has played at the highest level with UL he's well able to handle it

Replying To Triffic:  "He didn't play v Wexford. Made his league debut v Cork, as far as I recall, and was one of our better players that day. Played again v Limerick and struggled a bit, like everyone else that day. Definitely has a lot to offer."
Yes, did a bit of googling. He came on for 2 mins as a blood sub vs Wexford for the injured Jason Flynn. Made his debut proper vs Cork , scored 1-3 and was described in the Munster-penned report I read (along with Evan Niland and Kevin Cooney) as being "on fire early on". I'd like to have seen him get more game time in the league myself but truth be told, the league is little more than a pre-season competition nowadays and is no yardstick -- particularly in the early round matches -- by which to judge if a player can make it at inter-county level. The Cork game took place in February and the match reporter was hugely impressed by the Cork performance and predicted they'd be real contenders fot the All Ireland. Didn't work out that way and the same goes for making assessments on individual players based on February hurling!

He would have to be good to start on any UL team.

Loughrea Vs clarinbridge. Loughrea made hard work of that game. Missed a lot of scores. Jamie Ryan again best player on the pitch.

Sarsfields walloped a very poor oranmore team. Kevin and Joe cooney dominating. Joe cooney without a doubt should be 6 for Galway next year. Gmac nowhere near him at 6
