Conceded 3 goals despite playing a sweeper. Kierans are always a serious outfit. The only game they lost this year was to what was 3/4 of last year's Offaly intercounty minor team that were unlucky to lose in the AI minor final.

Need to look deeper into the profiles of the teams before you begin to make judgements. I understand that the majority of the Kieran's team were a year or 2 older than the majority of the Athenry lads, which is huge at underage.

Yes they were well beaten. No debate there. Congratulations to St Kieran's. Presentation came up short but will be back.

Not a judgement but a fact. 10 points in hurling is a fair ould bating. Now you can go into the reasons for it all you like, but it stíl won't narrow the margin down from 10 points of a fair ould bating.

And wont change the fact that your knowledge of gaelic games is rather limited too. A chap that on the football predictions thread who thought inter-county league games were of 60 minutes duration. Enough said.

Dont Worry about it Pool. The Croke Cup has only gone to Galway once (I think a Galway team it back in eighties or nineties) yet they have a mass of national titles at all levels, since the seventies. We have won one Croke since the sixties and six of the team were from Clare and yet we have five All Irelands in those years and but for sheer bad management could have won a few more. The loss yesterday is the end of the road for nobody. The best of luck to them young Athenry players in the future, I am sure we have not seen the last of them.

Amen to that. Them lads from Athenry and them lads from Kilkenny will surely meet again in many levels. Best of luck to them all in their years ahead. Keeping Hurling alive and well! ☘️

I think you're mixing your clichés there. Isn't 10 points 'nothing in hurling'. Or wasn't that 6 points? Either way, only 4 points the difference. 6 points seems to be a lot in football alright, a point tally that Armagh didn't exceed in the entirety of yesterday's NFL game in fact.

Can't agree with that. There was little between them for most of the 1st half. Pres reacted well to the 1st goal and had a chance to go in level at half-time, but one pass too many turned it over and Kieran's tacked another one over to make the gap 2 points at the break.
They were well in the game until the 2nd goal, which took the wind out of their sails. The 3rd goal came at the death.
Definitely beaten by the better team, but far from a massacre. It's a very young team they have and we'll hopefully see a good few of them in big games at Croke Park again.

Best of Luck to David Burke. Probably won't see him play for Galway again :-(

Don't mind him, his hatred of Galway is shocking!

Yes very sad news about David - he is 33 now so we may not see him in a Galway jersey again (hope I'm wrong of course) but he will probably continue to play for Thomas's. He is a great player / leader and no-one can take his AI medal away from him when he was captain in 2017.

Heartbreaking about David Burke. Best of luck to him in his recovery. Sigh.

Not much to be gained from yesterday against a poor Westmeath team. Cianan Fahy looks to be the choice to start the championship at midfield and Declan McLoughlin was very good when he came on.

Obviously not good news with the David Burke injury but it looks like we have a lot of players on the way back soon. Fintan Burke, Cathal Mannion, Adrian Touhey, Shane Cooney and Jamie Ryan were all out on the field pucking around before the game. McInerney was with them as well sitting in the stand but I think he was just being rested for this game.

My heart goes out to David Burke, a leader among men since his minor days.

Pure gentleman off the field too, speedy recovery to you David.

Very disappointed for him. Genuine player with a huge drive to win. Hopefully like Callanan with Tipp he gets to go out on his own terms and we see him back in the county colours again.

An absolute warrior, never any messing out of him either, a real old school hurling man, great down to earth lad. Has achieved as much in the game, won everything on offer at club and county. The difference he makes on the pitch as not only a hurler but as a leader is incredible, even small things like fighting for line balls, getting on to lads, directing on the pitch, fighting calls, while some mightnt be things you'd tell a young lad to do but he gave that bit of bite that Galway lacked before he came and whenever he wasn't there. Very like Shefflin was on the pitch. The ultimate clutch hurler, always showed up, even in the very dissapointing finals of 2012, 2015, 2018, semi final in 2016 and the semi fina last year he stood out as one of the best on the pitch. Outside of Joe Canning the best amd most consistent hurler I've ever seen Galway produce. In any all ireland best team of the last 25 years he has to be midfield on that team. A generational talent and even 4 all stars seems like too few for him. Not retiring him at all and I genuinely think he won't want to go out like that and will be back last year for one more go. He's a huge loss to galway this year, always felt that bit more confident with David Burke playing.

Very sorry to hear about David Burke's injury. He is a warrior and I have no doubt will come through this with his usual courage, determination and resilience. One of the finest hurlers ever to play for Galway and a much-respected player throughout the country. Wishing David a very speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing him back playing for the county again.
