Clare have an active forum I post on. The only other Internet communication I have with people as I don't do FB, Twitter, Instagram etc etc and never did. Some great lads for a bit of banter there. And very knowledgeable and passionate hurling people.

Good start to the League for Galway this Weekend, think we had 13 different scorers, like the look of the Cappy kid young Collins....tricky little guy who could be difficult to mark and who can draw frees from over committed backs!!!

In my own Home parish in West Limerick, there is a townland called for Centuries Ballycommane- the townland of the Hurlers."
The biggest decline OTM would have happened in the 19th Century. Obviously there was hurling played in most townlands in rural Ireland in the 17th and 18th Centuries. Ballycommane is Baile Uí Chomáin in Irish and does not mean camán or hurley, it's a surname.

Why is it called the Gaelic Athletic Association or Cumann Lúithchleas Gael? Gaelic means Irish speaking. A gael is an Irish speaker. Before the famine, outside of the garrison towns, Irish was the every day language spoken in all of Connacht and Munster. As for Connemara and West Kerry they played their own form of hurling. They used sticks not hurleys - the land is poor and wind swept .i. no easy access to ash. Gaelic football didn't exist until the latter part of the 19th Century.

I used to know a lot of lads from North Clare and they love their hurling as much as any area in the Country. Rabid supporters.

Our lads won Leinster more recently than yours did Katser! And you hadn't beaten us before Saturday's "preseason game", quote Conor Whelan, in League or Championship or Walsh Cup in 3 years!! Hardly no threat whatsoever. And Kilkenny have won the last 3 Leinsters in a row and reached 2 AI finals since you last got to one. As loose buttons go they must be tied on with wire!!! I love your positivity!

Shefflin went far stronger at this game than I thought he would tbh. Of your team I'd expect Murphy, Grealish, GMac, Morrissey, P Mannion, Monaghan, Niland, Flynn, Whelan, Concannon all to start some championship games this year as they did last year. Brennan, Killeen, Linnane and O Shea have also played championship hurling for Galway before and might get starts. Jarleth Mannion is around the panel since 2019. I think Lawless is a good prospect though only 20 this year. Murphy and Salmon are probably not quite there yet for championship while Collins is only 19 but a potential superstar.
So you had 10 starters from last years championship and a further 4 or 5 who have played championship hurling for Galway before that. I'd be guessing we will see 15 of those lads in some Round Robin fixture or another with at least 10 starting a game.
Add in the half dozen or so starters who were missing Saturday and I think you should have a good panel this year.
Of our team we had 8 regular championship starters from last year plus a further 3 or 4 who had started or appeared in championship games. This was reflected in the 1st half parity. By the end of the 2nd half we had replaced 5 of these with subs that had never started a League game before let alone appeared in a Championship game and I think that was reflected in the final score.
And remember the 2 Cooneys were named to start and only didn't due to their bereavement. I guess Shefflin was trying to lay down some sort of marker as that's very close to a championship team.

Don't know about much of that tbh, they had 7 starters from last years semi final and no sign of David Burke, Daithi Burke, Cathal Mannion, Joe Cooney, Conor Cooney, Fintan Burke....some amount of all stars and top top players in thag list.I have this down as a very poor result for Wexford, a lot stronger team out and at home. Think this was very much a game should've looked at as very winnable. Think Shefflin has made it very clear he's looking to build a panel so to get as a comprehensive a win as he did with all those lads (plus Cianan Fahy, Adrian Tuohey, Kevin Cooney as other lads who've played champioship to come back) I think it was an all round dier performance by our lads. I've divided loyalties on this and love seeing great contests between these but nothing shows how important Lee Chin is for us intil he's gone. Him and Rory are probably the only guaranteed starters to come back for us too, I'd say 95% of Wexford followers would agree with. Usually always agree with what you say on here but I definitely don't see that. That was a very experimental Galway team.

It seems Shefflin is trying to build a team deep enough to withstand injuries which is proper due to the physicality of the round Robin system. You want lads coming off the bench that are as good as who they replaced on the field.

I agree with what you've said there.....I had already said that I would like to see strongest 15 available start v Wexford and get Galway off to a positive League start.
I'd be happy with us playing our Championship 15 for this League campaign.

No matter who was playing on either team Wexford were on top in the first 20 minutes but failed to take their points. Instead of 10 they could have scored 20. On the other hand Galway failed to score from the penalty and fumbled at least three other goal chances. The fact that they needed Concannon to change the game in their favour tells me that come championship it's going to take another year or more for the less established players to shine at this level. I may be wrong, it's only February etc.

Collins is going to make it very hard for Shefflin to keep him on the bench. Would like to him start a game or two later in the league. Concannon looked sharp when he came in, hopefully he can be enough of a threat inside that it might allow Whelan to stay at 11.

Full back line should Wexford down completely and I think those two corner back spots are nailed down now with Grealish and Morrissey.

Sticks wouldn't be alien to the current Galway crowd, never mind Connemara, or indeed the Kerry heads. Sure when Sylvie was at his finest 'twould remind you of a farmer droving cattle with an ash plant.

They were your starting cornerbacks last year too and did very well.

I would hope Ja Mannion gets another chance to prove himself when the sod is dry as he is very quick, skillful and a good scorer when on form. A cold rainy night does not suit him and he has been unlucky a couple of times with being sent off for off the ball tussles in the past.

Joe Cooney was named to start. Fintan Burke wouldn't be an automatic championship starter for me. Or probably David Burke either now. Cathal Mannion and Daithi Burke will start in Salthill if fit I'd imagine. Cianan Fahy is the only other lad you named I'd be fairly certain will start. Your panel is certainly stronger than ours. But then you have twice the adult hurlers in the county we have.
Chin, Rory, MOH if he's in the shape he was last year are automatic starters for me. Oisin Foley likely too. Still not sure about Jacko tbh but he would certainly come on if available and not starting. And not sure how Joe O Connor is getting on in training either but he was a regular starter in Davys last year. We only really had a half a Mogie and Kevin Foley playing it was good to see Kevin playing well and effecting the game again though. Dee hasn't been in great form all year in the few minutes he got during the Walsh Cup which is a bit worrying as well. Hopefully he's timing himself to peak for the championship. And hopefully some of the younger lads who played last Saturday will get further games and be better players for it come championship too which is where I think Egan is at at the moment. WE NEED A FREETAKER!!!!!!!
