The structure has changed plenty times over the past decade, so of course it can be changed again. This made up group might be a good stepping stone to standardising. They'll hopefully see sense after a year or two of this format.

Replying To Medals:  "The next logical step is that the 8 teams in Senior B plus top 8 in Intermediate to form a new 16 team Premier Intermediate competition over next few years with winners going on to the provincial championship..The remaining 8 plus few remaining pure Junior clubs and Senior clubs second teams to make up Premier Junior.

This is what happened in Tipperary who had two Senior competitions going but now will have winners of Premier Intermediate represent them in the Munster Intermediate championship."
Why do we have to call it "Premier" intermediate.
Senior is your top championship, intermediate is your second tier championship, why are people so against being called intermediate.

Replying To katser:  "It doesn't make a difference whats said here because its not going to change so We just have to accept it...16 Senior, 8 Senior B and 16 Intermediate suits me perfectly anyhow!!
Also it's not the Clubs fault that their was too many Senior teams in the first place.
It was the Hurling Board idea they put it out to the Clubs and the delegates said hell ya we will have 24 Senior teams no problem"
But they don't have 24 senior teams. They have 16 senior teams who can win the senior cup and there are 8 team who are allowed call themselves senior even though they can't win senior.

Would be called Premier Intermediate because the grade below it would also be called Intermediate. The group below would probably not agree to be renamed Junior.

Expect to see eight team Senior B merged with top 8 intermediate teams in next two years. The main objective of getting senior championship down to 16 teams has been achieved. Now can work on fixing grades below that.

We can't mock the people who won't except that they're not senior when they can't win senior if we then say the same about the second tier guys who can't win the second tier. Senior, Intermediate and Junior are not standards, they're competitions, either you're in the competition that can win you an AI in that respective competition or your not. This is all notions..

And will have to be changed within in a couple of years. Eventually the narrow minded delegates will get sense when they realise no one actually cares who is Senior B champions.

Trying to figure out the Galway Hurling Championship is tough going!!

Also the website is poor - No league tables or past results as far as i could see anyway.

Regarding the Championship structure I think in fairness to our Co. Board in Wexford we have it right for a dual county.

12 Teams in each Grade split into two equal standard Groups of six - Top Four qualify for quarter finals, 5th Place is eliminated but avoids relegation, 6th place teams play Relegation Final. One down and one up from Intermediate and so on down through the grades.
Hurling first in summer months and then football. Fixtures road map released months in advance to all clubs. Wexford has roughly 50 clubs, most clubs have at least two teams in both football and hurling.

that sounds very good. Would be way too straight forward for Galway Co Board to implement though.

Hah imagine, only 12 senior and intermediate teams and the football lads couldn't start until the hurlers finished with the best part of the summer. There would be holy war..

It was proposed and shot down once 16 teams were mentioned the clubs took it as law. 12 team championship was knocked on the head. I was in the meetings and you could not talk sence to some clubs reps

Of course people will care who wins Senior B as that is their route up to Senior A.
Is it going to be 2 up and 2 down going forward or just 1 up and 1 down ?

One up and one down for everything. It definitely will make Senior and Intermediate very competitive.

The neutral won't give a damn. It's a made up competition to pacify a old-timers.
