yeah I think your right. They should have won last year but they peaked in the group stage.

They are probably the fifth best team left. Hard to see them going all the way.

who are you calling as semifinalists

Hard to call yet until we see the results of the last group games and see who is playing who in the next round. Group 1 on paper with Sarsfields, Tomas's, Clarinbridge,is the stronger group and all 3 should make the semi finals if they dont play each other at the quarter final stage. But Loughrea and Tommy Larkins have impressed me too and neither will be a pushover. Could definitely see Loughrea making it to the semi final. And of course Turloughmore are not to be discounted either though from what I've seen (didn't see their win against Thomas's) I can't see them winning it.

Brilliant u2o final last night between Sarsifelds and Turloughmore rhudson (Galway) - Posts: 1478 - 22/09/2022 11:10:58 2441528 Link 2 |
I'd have Sarsfields, Clarinbridge, Thomas' and Turloughmore quite a bit ahead of the rest at this stage. Obviously depends on the draw who makes the semis but i think those are the four best teams. That U20 final was a super game. Connaire is made for the Galway senior panel already. Thought Sarsfields had them beaten when they went 8-9 points up but Turlough stuck at it. Cosgrove and Murphy are two very lively forwards. Replay should draw a big crowd again in two weeks time in Ballinasloe. galway19 (Galway) - Posts: 806 - 23/09/2022 09:42:07 2441613 Link 2 |

When are the hurling clubs of Galway going to grow up and reduce senior club championship to 16. Clubs clam in they are senior but they are not really about time they just grew up and look at themselves and relish what level there actually at. if they are in a competition that says senior well then my friend, they are a senior club. doesnt matter if it says b or f after the word senior...its senior. so the question is when is the suits going to grow up and fix this, but its already in place with the reduction happening this year? maybe call senior b premier intermediate like other counties with 45 senior clubs?

We will have to see how the senior b is run. The only interest in the b championship will be the teams involved. The county board will have a job promoting it. If they cant be involved in the main senior championship i cant see it having a big following from neutrals. There is only gonna be 8 teams competing so i dunno will it be 2 groups of 4 with top 2 into the semis. Its a pity for whoever wins it out they will have no all ireland series. Senior b will be the only grade that has no all ireland series and thats from junior b up to senior A. We will have to see what the county board has planned for it and see will it work. Again i do hope it works out but i can see it been changed again in a few years. But as a few posters has started the reason why the senior b has been created the way it will be for next year is that clubs are happy to have senior in their title even though they are finding it hard to be competitive with the top table. plentyofstick (Galway) - Posts: 88 - 29/09/2022 10:48:51 2442208 Link 0 |
In Tipp we have senior, Premier Intermediate, Intermediate, Junior A etc Load of B*ll*cks in my opinion! Junior has always been A, B, C, etc but adding in another intermediate grade is BS! If you're not in the top 16 in your county how can you claim to be senior and if you're not in the top 32 then you're not an intermediate club. The problem in Tipp is essentially it ruins the divisional championships particularly the West and South divisions but also the other divisions in Intermediate. Tipp up to recently had a 32 (It may have even been 34 at one stage) team senior chsip. It then went to Senior A and B with top Senior B teams having still a route to winning Dan Breen for a couple of years. I've felt too many mismatches over the years has been to the detriment of club hurling particularly once they get to Munster. Although club hurling has been stronger the last few years the standard seems to have been much poorer this year which is possibly down to injuries to a big number of the intercounty players. Galway seem to have clubs that as a whole are a lot more even over the years but I think that in Tipp we are no similar in that regards as its almost impossible to pick a winner. Most of that may have been off topic! But I agree with you! However, the Galway and Tipp senior championships are the two that have mirrored each other the most for as long as i can remember. tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 29/09/2022 11:13:18 2442212 Link 1 |
The Senior B next year will be incredibly competitive, ok the winners don't get anything only to be promoted upto Senior A where they play in the big prize. And with the likes of Gort, Kilconeiron, Killimordaly, Moycullen, Portumna and possibly sarsfields all in Senior A next year, whoever gets promoted from B has a great chance of staying in Senior A. For example the mighty Meelick-Eyrecourt if they win Intermediate this year which I expect them to do, will go all out to win Senior B next year! I'm 100% in favour of this new structure!! katser (Galway) - Posts: 2481 - 29/09/2022 13:53:32 2442240 Link 2 |
If the winners of the 'senior B' (intermediate in all but name, can't claim to be senior if your in the second rung) don't get to play in the intermediate all Ireland series, it's a load of BS. Having the incentive of that after would give it a lot more gloss. We're essentially sending our Junior A Champs (3rd rung) to an intermediate all Ireland then. It's robbing the second tier winners of entering the second tier all Ireland series....makes no sense. There is a third tier all Ireland for those below senior B then so not like they'd be missing out if you take that away, if anything it's better because they'd be playing teams at their correct level. I don't know, seems so unnecessary Throughthemidfieldhewasstormin (Wexford) - Posts: 286 - 29/09/2022 18:56:51 2442264 Link 1 |
My main point is that basically there are only 6 clubs really have a chance at winning senior out, all the rest are there just to make up the numbers.Your always going to have 8/10 poor teams in senior but having up to 14/15 teams who are hopeless come on lads get a grip. It's time now these clubs we all know who they are bite the bullet and head to intermediate better off and at least they have a realistic chance of winning something.
