The Glynn hype train failed to get out of the station again. And another red card. Must be a frustrating team to follow. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1407 - 30/10/2021 18:59:27 2387906 Link 0 |
glynn are a very limited team, they just dont have the forwards

It's a tricky one, if it's true my initial instinct is play the game when feasible as there's no knock on regards a Leinster club championship, but if a team in the top 3 grades had to concede for that reason and Oylgate had got some leeway like I suggested the higher graded team would understandably feel aggrieved.

As I mentioned earlier in the week you'd fancy Shels over Glynn in normal circumstances but I think some mitigation yesterday really had Glynn on a hiding to nothing. 5th week out in a row against a team with a 3 week break, on top of that 6 day turnaround from extra time although you could argue Glynn were lucky against Fethard particularly considering 1 or 2 officiating decisions. Not being able to start O'Regan and Aaron Breen is a significant blow too. On your 2nd point you'd certainly be right on yesterday's evidence but I remember last year Starlights on all evidence probably ranked 4th of the 4 teams left heading into the semi finals but improved game by game. Unfortunately looks like the wind could cause havoc in today's games. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 31/10/2021 07:56:17 2387928 Link 0 |
You have to remember too that Oylegate have the Leinster club championship starting soon (they have played at least one practise match recently to prepare for it), so conceding a walkover in this regard actually benefits them. Taghmon actually pulled lads from their junior B team to fulfill their fixture and obviously got well beaten. As for what I have seen in the junior championship, I think either Blackwater or Kilrush will win it out. Was at the Castletown-Sarsfields tie yesterday, and the last five minutes was full of drama. The referee made a horrendous call for a mark for Sars when the ball had deflected off a defender and at least one more player before the 'catch' was made, amd that, along with a follow up point, put them two up deep into injury-time. But Castletown pounced for a late goal to win by one. The fact that both sides left frustrated at the official tells the story. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1407 - 31/10/2021 09:51:58 2387935 Link 0 |
Shells for me look the mosr likely winners, was in the park yesterday shells far too good for barntown, st martin's made heavy work of beating kilnarein, daithi and Rory carried them tru, Lockerroomboy (Wexford) - Posts: 427 - 31/10/2021 10:16:15 2387940 Link 0 |
Not a great day for football. Definitely favour teams that play a shorter passing running game although if you had good ball winning forwards with the wind behind you could let it in long. Wont be a good day for spectators.

Hard to know what Castletown were doing in that game, a game they were in total control of and then just seemed to stop playing after going a point up they forgot that they had to work for the win. zinny (Wexford) - Posts: 1790 - 31/10/2021 14:53:43 2387964 Link 0 |

Drama aplenty in the park today, everything went to plan for Castletown for 40 mins, a manageable half time deficit clawed back in 10 mins, on top in midfield with Robbie Brooks causing havoc and they were turning Gusserane over at will, they fell to peices from there, full credit to Gusserane they were outstanding in the last quarter there use of the ball in this juncture was brilliant, it must be said looking back Liam Colemans rocket off the crossbar was vital as I suspect that would have been game over Castletown 4 pts up with the wind. bostonredsox (Wexford) - Posts: 4368 - 31/10/2021 20:47:00 2388012 Link 0 |
Heard a rumour this morning of there been some issues in regards to fixtures next weekend, master fixture list being deviated from in one grade for no apparent reason to suit a certain club. Hmmm! tearintom (Wexford) - Posts: 1304 - 01/11/2021 10:31:31 2388043 Link 0 |
care to elaborate

It was the same old failing with Castletown, something that almost always comes back to bite them. They start playing keep ball among themselves hoping a slender lead will be enough. Only Dublin can get away with that. Gorey had perhaps the display of the weekend. Played pretty much the entire second half, and ten minutes of the first, with 14 men but grinded out an excellent win. Ferns didn't capitalise on their spare man at all, but credit to Gorey, they hit the last five points to win by one. Brian Cushe looks to be a serious prospect, Patsy Molloy is arguably as good a footballer as he is a hurler, and they have enough pace to trouble anyone. The winner of their semi-final will go on to win the championship. beano (Wexford) - Posts: 1407 - 01/11/2021 12:19:18 2388055 Link 0 |
You seem to hear a lot of rumours and untruths, whats the apparent issues and also what grade? or is this just another cry! hmmmm!

Thats been Castletowns trademark for a while now - get ahead and try to defend a lead its a dangerous tactic and it appears to have derailed them this time.

So the wind favours teams with a short running game but also teams with ball winning forwards? So basically suits both styles of football your saying?
