Absolutely nothing, in my opinion will compare to the first 15 mins of the 2nd half in the Munster final.
Tipp had demolished us in the first half..
Going in 10 down at half time and by the water break to be leading was just awe inspiring out of Limerick.

28° heat, having been outplayed and out fought by quality opposition Limerick could have been out it.

To turn on the style in such a manner was the most complete performance I think I've ever seen.."
Those twenty minutes after half time were staggering. Possibly the best twenty minutes of hurling I have ever seen.

After making prolonged pleas with Meath to replay the 2010 Leinster Final but forgetting that it was really the Leinster Council that should have made a decision instead of taking the money and hiding. Meath and Louth got to play again in the 2011 Championship. Meath were determined to answer all the calls for replays and were in roasting hot form.

I remember watching this and thinking it was such a complete team performance. Ironically, I think that Clare team went downhill after that game.

Clare matches those days seemed to be box office. Cork was a sellout for both those matches against Tipp.

I was very young at the time but i recall genuinely being in shock and awe at Meaths destruction of Kerry in 2001.
Kerry had a lot of brilliant players and all ireland players in that team and would have been favourites but meath came out and utterly crushed them in every part of the pitch from first minute to last, an incredible ruthless display. Incredibly they couldnt lift it to anywhere near that standard in the final then as galway dispatched them quite easily

Meath/ Kerry/ Galway shared equally the 6 all All Ireland titles between 1996 to 2001, Meath's display against Kerry in the 2001 was in my opinion the best display of by a football team in that time."
My friend was at that game, he phoned me at half time but we had to prematurely end the conversation because I couldn't hear him over the crowd singing The fields of Athenry lol.
A great galway performance.
This thread is about complete performances but if you wanna talk about complete disasters both our counties have fallen way by the wayside since.
I think it took us 13 /14 years to win another match at Croker after that.

Most enjoyable in recent times was obviously winning the All Ireland in 2012 and beating Mayo, Murphy's goal fairly silenced the Mayo yahoos early on."
How've you been holding up since all those images of you at the presentation went public?

I would rank Galway's performance against Meath as highly as Meath's performance against Kerry and I was at both games. Galway were brilliant that day most especially in the second half. Their efficiency in front of goal let them down. They could easily have added three goals to their total score. Pádraic Joyce's bullet shot shortly after half time that went marginally over the bar was one of those chances. Meath were completely outclassed that day. Anyway as the saying goes "It's all opinion."

The 2001 final was level at half time, in the first half was not really a great standard of game although Galway were on top. Galway (particularly P Joyce) finished the match very well and had a great win to celebrate. This topic is about complete performances, I said the Meath Kerry game from 2001 was one of the best performances I can remember. It's often compared to the Galway Meath final a few weeks later, and I was pointing out in reality Meath's win was actually more decisive by a bit.
I do agree with you about Meath's performances most of the time since 2001 all of 20 years ago, I can't really understand how we have fallen so far away in that time considering our population has increased so much.

I actually watched that game back on YouTube a few weeks ago by coincidence and while obviously Meath destroyed the kingdom that day, I have to say that both Moynihan and MF Russell played fairly well.

While not perfect in terms of execution, I feel kilkennys performance v Cork in the 06 final deserves a mention too.
By no means beautiful to watch or anything but they were like men possessed that day. I've never seen a team want to win a contest more than they did that day. If I was to sum up Cody in one game that would be it.
The 3 point gap at the end flattered Cork who at the time were going for the 3 in a row.

In hurling I'd say Cork's 2004 all Ireland win over Kilkenny. Different to Kilkenny 2008 and Limerick 2021 in that the team they beat were dismantled by not giving them the ball and restricting the reigning all Ireland champions to 0-9. Waterford in 08 and Cork 21 were not champions even in the significant past so I think what Cork 04 did was a complete performance.

In football I'd go for Kerry's 2009 quarter final win over Dublin. Mike McCarthy for example was outstanding. 1-24 to 1-7 I think. Pretty much as complete as you can get. Meath v Kerry 2001 a very close second place. A forgotten game is Limerick's 4-12 to 4-3 win over Meath in 2008. Limerick led at one stage 4-12 to 0-3 so but for the late goals conceded this might have been #1.

Carlow beating Kildare in 2018 by 2-14 to 1-10.

Sixteen shots on goal, Sixteen scores.

100% Accuracy.

Will be very hard to beat that !!! (Smiley face)

Ger Loughnane said in his book that Clare's performance that day was the best during his time as manager

Yeah, Tipp missed their chance in the drawn game but Clare got a rather soft penalty at the end which Davy Fitz scored. Clare were much improved the second day and won easily. They looked like potential All-Ireland champions that day but you're right, they seemed to go downhill after that and lost to Cork in the Munster final. That was the beginning of the end for that great team.

Corofin against Nemo Rangers in 2018 comes to mind, absolutely powerful display. Similar again the year after against Dr Crokes, they were well on the way to victory even before Crokes had a red card if I remember correctly.
