Got me there foreveryoung :)... it was the Mattie of the Ruane variety I had in mind. Agree about Meyler though, he could still be in the shake-up.

Who are the other contenders for young POTY? Oisín Mullin and Enda Hession are the only 2 for us. Darragh Canavan for Tyrone. Don't think Kerry or Dublin have anyone eligible. Could they nominate an Offaly U20 player?

He was good in the League, very good against us in the playoff.
The final could swing it for O' Neill (if he qualifies, does a red card exclude someone) , who is probably the frontrunner of the Tyrone quartet. The two midfielders only possibles at this stage. Cannavan probably missed too much of the Ulster campaign.
For Mayo corner forwards Conroy and O Donoghue definitely in the running, Don't think any of the rest of them qualify.
For me it's Tierney, Conroy, O'Neill in that order as it stands. If I had to bet would say Conroy will get it

Enda Hession has to be in the list. He played a huge part in bringing the game to the Dubs in the second half of the semi-final having come on as a sub and got a lot of game time overall from JH.

I agree with Dan, there has to be a couple of the Offaly young lads who should be considered, although senior exposure seems to trump anything at u20/u17. What would people regard as the age limit for this award assuming it's not fixed... 22 and under?

I didn't watch as much Div 1 football this year for some reason, but if Tierney was that good he'd have to be in the running alright. He looks a fine prospect to be fair.

I would have thought your own Killian Leville had a better year at midfield

Clifford was average enough I thought bar a great first half against Tyrone. Sean Meehan marked him out of the Munster final. Similarly I would have thought Mattie Donnelly and Peter Harte have had quiet enough years. For me, Niall Sludden has to get one, he's been tremendous. Lee Keegan only really came to life in the second half against the dubs when he was moved out of the full back line. Conor Loftus has been an unsung hero for Mayo, great player

Which O'Neill are you talking about, Michael O'Neill from Tyrone? Conroy and O'Donoghue are too old as U21 is usually the limit.

Not many people mentioning Conor Myler. I think he's seriously underrated player. If you watch that match again he too had a super game and he's been going well all year. He too certainly deserves an all star.

YPOTY has to be Enda Hessin of Mayo if he has a good final.

Spot on about Sludden. Wasn't getting the same chances as other Tyrone players for a couple of years now. Brilliant player , always was.

Yes. Michael O Neill thought he was consistent this season and versatile, good against Kerry . Is Conroy not 21, he was very good in the league

Totally agree. Was my man of the match in the Kerry game, he did a very good job on Paudie Clifford but I thought he was excellent on the ball. He always did the right thing whether it was to carry it or give a kick pass. I couldn't understand how McGeary got man of the match. Yes he worked very hard and covered huge ground but I thought he was poor enough on the ball at times and his shooting on the day was very bad. I'd definitely say Meyler and Hampsey played better than him.

Hampsey has to be up there as the best corner back in the country. Strong, tough and a real defender. Top class player.

Agreed about Hampsey. I even posted on the Kerry forum that I expected Tyrone to put him on King David. For me, it'd have been good to see the best defender versus the best attacker go head to head in the game.
