Replying To Cbar:  "Few players that stand out for me....
William Joseph Padden
Kevin o Neill had he not been ignored by so many managers
McDonald
Higgins

But the 1 i would have before all of the above is Leroy Keegan.

One of the finest I've seen play in the flesh NOT from Mayo that i don't think anyone has mentioned yet is Declan Browne from Tipp. Saw him play in a backdoor game down in Ennis. Thought he was pure class"
I certainly mentioned Declan Browne. Just imagine if he (or Mattie Forde) got the same quality supply that Mikie Sheehy, Gooch, Bernard Brogan or so many players on the top teams got, what damage they'd do then. I saw Browne shoot the lights out, but so many times after winning his own tough ball first, and not after it being supply-lined onto his plate (or boot). Browne was a surreal forward.

Who was the best player you have ever seen from your county play live. Not who was the best player ever from your county based on things that you have heard who was the best player you have ever seen.

In Kerry - is the best player u seen Mick O'Connell or Cacolm Cooper? Galway - Sean Purcell or Padraig Joyce?? Heffernan or cluxton??

And how good were these players in bygone years compared to the players of now? Is Do we look at the players of old through rose tinted spectacles??

For my own county Leitrim - Seamus Quinn- Won an all-star aged 21, strong as an ox, fast, intelligent on the ball, talent to burn. Kevin O'Brien in Wicklow always reminded me of a player of his talent in a county of average players. If he was in a county competing for all Irelands he would be one of the all-time greats and that I am sure of. I would back him against any player in Ireland in his prime no problem.

But then people here tell me I never seen paddy Mcgarty play!! - I never seen him!!!

So again- who is the best player you ever seen from your county play. And if you have seen players from different generations- are the new ones just as good or not??"
Best Meath footballer who I have witnessed playing was Colm O'Rourke (pips Trevor Giles).
The best performances I've seen from a Meath player was from Graham Geraghty but O'Rourke and Giles performed more consistently when playing for Meath.

Imagine having Forde and Browne on the same inside forward line, they'd probably outscore the opposition in most cases :D As good as any forwards I've seen, especially Browne.

Apologies I missed his name on your original post. And yes I agree.... Imagine if he played for a top team.

Murphy stands alone being honest, but Lacey isn't far behind him and then the Wee Man from Kilcar. I sometimes think people forget how good he was.

Martin Flanagan is probably the most naturally gifted footballer I've seen from my own county. Injuries and differences with management curtailed his inter county career somewhat but even in his latter years playing with the county he was always the standout player.

Paddy Keenan. Played with the Wee County from 2003 to 2015. What a man and leader. Never let his county or club down .

'Ever saw,' or 'have ever seen;' 'ever seen' is illiterate.

Considering how little we have won on the intercounty scene; the county has managed to produce some outstanding individual players. I'm not old enough to remember the likes of Mossie Coffey and that generation but from the 90s onwards, I would have to pick Kevin O'Brien from Baltinglass who has won the county's only all star to date and in more recent times, Leighton Glynn from Rathnew who was outstanding during the Micko era.

"saw" is the past tense of "to see".
And, while I'm at it: "do" (not "done") is the past tense of "to do".

You are, of course, right. It's embarrassing to hear GAA analysts get this wrong so often on radio and TV.
And they also seem to think that 'done' is the past tense of 'to do' and that 'bet' is the past tense of 'to beat'.

I read in my local paper's match reports, " he should have went for a goal/ point" rather than "gone for it" It's a regular feature. One featured in national media is" an historic day", the h is silent.
It should read " a historic day". I "seen that" is another common error in everyday speech.

Hurling: Damien Fitzhenry.

Football: Matty Forde, by a mile. Would in fact rank him as the best forward I have seen from any county.

For me it was Ciaran Murray. I remember watching him as a young fella, he dominated games by not allowing teams to play through the middle and then launching attacks when in possession, The team played with a calmness when he was there and he was the glue that held the team together.. For him to retire at 27 and having to play with injuries during his career was a shame cause Monaghan could have properly made the breakthrough in the 80's, Mind you he did get to a world cup with Jack Charlton as a Physio..

'Did' is the past tense of 'do' in America. Is it different in Ireland, or is that just in Kerry?
