I didn't see those players you listed leitrim but my late father did and he often spoke about them. He didn't see Tom Langan but he rated Seán Purcell, Mick O Connell and Paddy Doherty very highly. He went to his first All Ireland final in 1942 and he saw his last final in 2012. He was a long time watching both hurling and football. He often said that Seán Purcell was one of the very best he ever saw. He may have been a little biased as he was a Galway man. One player he often spoke about was Seán O Neill of Down. He thought O Neill was a marvellous footballer. I hope that goes a little way to answering your question.

Matt was special. Graceful and beautiful to watch.Scored 2-9 v Kerry in 80 semi but he scored a point in 82 final that just oozed brilliance. Sold dummies and Jinked through Kerry defence to score a fab point.

Lucky enough or old enough to have seen, Jacko, Egan, Johnny, Horse, Sheehy & Paídi from the golden years, then the likes of Flaherty and Mossie from the lean years, to the likes of the O'Sè brothers. Declan, Cooper, Donaghy, and now the likes of Seanie and the Clifford brothers. But pound for pound no one comes near Seamus Moynihan. Played against him a few times at club level, but whether it was Glenflesk, East Kerry, Kerry, Munster or Ireland in the compromise rules he always starred… unreal unit, class apart. We don't 'all' have big chips on our shoulders. You have a serious chip about our county in fact with your ongoing posts. Majority of Donegal people have never given a flying f**k about our proximity to Dublin, or feel the need to be a Dublin-centric satellite county like half of Ireland. I was there that day CiarraiMck and I remember that score well. It was a fabulous score. He was only 22 that day. It is great to see such a wonderful player being appreciated so many years later. Jacko and Brian Fenton are the best all round footballers I have ever seen. Matt Connie is the best forward I have ever seen.

It was remiss of me not to mention our footballers. Despite our lack of achievements we have some greats. Tom Gough, Vinny Kirwan, Jim Wall, Monty Guiry, Paul O'Brien, Greg Fives (R.I.P.) and yes the Brick when he played. It's very hard to disagree with that. I saw Moynihan play, club and county, and pound for pound they were few, if any better. I put JackO above him, but only JackO. However, if you pitted all these great players in their prime against each other (futile task), I'd say Moynihan one-on-one with any of those Kerry greats would come out on top. I could see him holding Gooch, Mikie Sheehy, or even the great Maurice scoreless from play. He might have a battle vs, the late John Egan though. I could see him tormenting the great O'Connell and JackO around midfield that neither would catch a high ball all day. It's idle speculation, but Seamus Moynihan was the complete footballer. He could play it whatever way it came, in every weather. Great call.

Few players that stand out for me.... William Joseph Padden Kevin o Neill had he not been ignored by so many managers McDonald Higgins But the 1 i would have before all of the above is Leroy Keegan. One of the finest I've seen play in the flesh NOT from Mayo that i don't think anyone has mentioned yet is Declan Browne from Tipp. Saw him play in a backdoor game down in Ennis. What a player, had practically retired when he got the call from Heffo in '74. He never looked his height as he was, well, a little curvy. And from what I remember he was one of the quickest over a short sprint in training.
