Bet NEPHET & Tony say there's "science" behind this....and people will actually believe them!!!! They will probably say that virus more prevalent at football games than at hurling so hence reduced attendance. OMG how we as a people have succumbed to NEPHET/Social Media/Mainstream Media hysteria and fear inducing rhetoric. All backed up by confusing (deliberate) and massaged statistics to frighten the common man/woman. No science here now from these boys just b**l s**t.

Replying To tiobraid:  "At certain points Ireland has opened up to some extent!! Its a sensible approach given people are still getting sick. Vaccines have helped but we all know people who have got covid despite taking the vaccine. It would be ridiculous to open the floodgates yet. Lets see how things are looking a week or two after all 12+ are vaccinated (or all that are willing to take it). This isn't going away and for me it would be a huge mistake to open up further. We have seen that when Irish people are given an inch they'll take a mile and should Limerick/Mayo in particular win I'm worried how much heed of restrictions both counties will take. Thats not a dig at those but I know the passion that is there"
Well, it appears to me that it has and it hasn't, although I am looking on from afar. Bars and restaurants are open now in Ireland but from what I can see, it's still very restrictive with respect to other types of events.

Ireland has a very high rate of vaccination uptake by international standards but the system seems to be falling down in other ways. I came back for Christmas last year and it was an absolute shambles, both in terms of checks on incoming arrivals and the monitoring system after.

I obeyed the rules on quarantining, hardly stirred outside the front door for two weeks. But the only check on me was getting a text message from DFAT on a couple of occasions, asking if I was at home. If I had out gallivanting they would have been none the wiser. And it was impossible to get an appointment to test myself out of quarantine via PCR at that point anyway.

For comparison's sake, in Austria, the City of Vienna has been distributing free PCR testing kits for the past six months or so. You do the gurgle in your own home, drop off your kit and you have a result within a day, and then you're free to do what you need to for three days after.

Even though they are a little behind Ireland in terms of the vaccine rollout, there is much more freedom. They had two Formula One Grand Prix in July in which 250,000 people attended altogether, including a lot of foreign visitors.

Transmission rates are still considerably lower than in Ireland despite having twice the population. And this is in a country where it is thought that up to a third of the population are vaccine sceptical/hesitant.

I'm not saying there has to be a free-for-all, but it seems to me that the lockdown is unnecessarily strict in Ireland given how positive the vaccination drive has been.

That said, I agree with you that there is a pandemic in the universe that would stop Mayo people celebrating the arrival of Sam! But that's in the realm of fantasy for the moment, anyway.

Thats an absolute joke.

I was waiting for ticket sales to open for this game in anticipation of the capacity being 40K. Then immediatly the tickets were marked as sold out without any actually being available.
Rang Ticket office to ask about it and they confirmed the attandance for the original fixture has to be kept. No explanation as to why.

What an absolute farce. 40K safe this Sunday, buy only 24k a week later.... Surely some proper reasoning or explanation should be provided for that decision..

I see Denmark have dropped the mask and other restrictions, they're having similar amount of daily cases. Be interesting to see how that goes, hopefully very well.

I presume these tickets were only available to the particpitaing counties and we're already sold for the original fixture. it would not be fair to increase the football semi final when 3 previous semi finals were only allowed to have 24,000. Because the final is a special occasion is probably the reason for the increase. Why do we always have to be complaining we should be happy that we have reasonable attendances back! Covid has not gone away as Israel are finding out.

That's a strange response.

Look at the crowd at dub v mayo.... Way more than 24k. Hill open and all. I was at the game and there was definitely more than 24k, as i was at hurling semi and it was very noticeable the difference.

And your idea that because it was originally 24k, it's not fair that people get to go to it at 40k... What are you even on about. Very pretty attitude. Because one couldn't go at the time then nobody else should get the increase. Sure last year's final had 0 at it, by your logic it's not fair to allow anything extra this year.....

If it's safe for 40k this week, it's safe for 40k next week, simple as that. 90% of adults vaccinated, yet still do t let people go anywhere...

Sweden never locked down, never had a mask mandate, all schools & colleges fully open, shops, bars cinemas etc, the same and ditto also for public transport and sports. Now have lowest 28 day mortality in Europe and very low case rate also. More importantly all citizens happily going on with their lives, RTE & media furious with Swedish attitude this time last year saying they were so irresponsible...... but you won't hear a geek about Sweden now!!! Their Public Health Officials called it right and stood by their decision not to impose any restrictions on society and they have been justified. Our mopes in Public Health just went for the doomsday scenario and are still in that space. We can NEVER return to normal as long as NEPHET and Tony govern us.

What's the health system in Sweden like? I thought the whole point of lockdowns was to ensure to health system didn't collapse? And right now the hospitals in Castlebar and Galway are at breaking point. Years of mismanagement by different governments has led to the third world health system we currently have. It's a disgrace.

But I bet your man Enda is still a big hero there though. Isn't that all the Irish voter is any good for, going around telling each other what "a disgrace" everything is, but they'll be the very people who'll be going around carrying the same politicians shoulder high at the next election.

From March to June last year Irish hospitals had up 4,000 EMPTY beds every night yet the public image was that the system was being overrun. Hospital wards were actually like ghost towns....totally empty where if a pin dropped it would echo everywhere. The bould Tony was even shocked when he had to spend a night in St. Jamses' and found he was the only patient in the ward.
Hospitals now overflowing with patients who should have been treated a year ago. Lockdown has failed miserably and the longer we are locked up/down the worse the situation will become. Our "get out of jail cards" (ie the vaccines) are now proving to be both ineffective (you can still get infected if vaccinated - albeit milder, and pass it on) and inefficient (after 6 months their efficacy wears off) so everyone will need a booster 6-9 months after their first dose and probably another jab 6-9 months later again. So round and round we go if this charade continues.
It reminds me of medieval times when scholars debated as to how many angels could sit on the top of a pin. Same types of "scholars" now "informing" the masses with their computer projections of possible impending doom. Rome burned while Nero fiddled and here in Ireland people are dying because they are afraid to seek healthcare because of the fear of contracting Covid. Fine to die alone from cancer or a stroke or heart attack as long as you didn't have Covid.

82,500 should be in Croke Park for Mayo v Kerry/Tyrone.

We need another 1916 type uprising to regain our freedom.

They have also had a significantly higher number of deaths over the duration of the pandemic.

Don't think it was way more I think it was actually 24 to 25 thousand difference was hill was open! Don't think anyone is saying it safe it is a risk to have 40 thousand in a stadium and was probably agreed well in advance. You can't agree that the attendance is going to be 24 and then increase it to 40 thousand just because it was put back, these are not normal times and alot of things have to be taken into account . Very easy for you to criticise from the ditch. Israel are having trouble even though they are the most vaccinated country in the world. Maybe you could go out to help them as you seem to have all the answers.

Your making less sense with each post...

The dates were given by the minister for sport, based on nphets advice, that after August 17th, the attendance could go up to 50% of stadium capacity.
40k for croker park for the 2 remaining games due to be played and 25k in the Aviva after that date for soccer also .

This refixed game is after that date, and infact after a 40k game this weekend, so how is it logical to have a 24k attendance sandwiched between 2 40k attendances..... Explain the science behind that...

Lol again like I said it was agreed 24 thousand for semi finals and 40 thousand for finals. I don't think you are a person who believes in science. Remember everything also can be subject to change and with the current rate of infection anything can happen! But I may as well be talking to the wall, people like you don't seem to understand this. And you probably dont believe this virus exists at all. Look at the amount of infections attributed to the euros in the UK!

I believe in science. Can you please outline what your belief in the current science is??? De facto there is no science behind these decisions on our freedoms but there is a helluva lot of spin and fear propaganda.

Your some scientist i can tell ya that....

Explain how there can be 40k next week, then down to 24 for no reason, then back up to 40.....

Apply your science to that....

And none of your waffling nonsense about Israel or the UK, just explain 24 in between 2 40k games...

Israel a highpoint in vaccine failure. Smugly they pre arranged to receive Pfizer vaccines before any other country. Started vaccinating whole population from December 27th 2020. Whooo Hooo! Now 9 months later they have the highest case load that they have ever experienced. Now giving 3rd & "booster" dose to whole population. Still they try to say that original vaccine worked but anyone with any splink of cop on can see they didn't. Check out Johns Hopkins website for figures. Biden's America also in state of chassis.....the magic bullets didn't work. Sweden only country to reject all lockdowns and masks etc. Their "Covid death rate" now lowest in Europe. See ECDC website for figures. Hon de Rebels tomorrow and de Kingdom against Tyrone.

Tony needs to go as does the Communist WHO boss. Awful repressive minister in Ethopia and no medical back-round but a political Chinese pawn. Please check this charlatan out. No medical degree and only published papers are on localised malaria outbreaks in water supplies in Ethopia. Yet we have succumbed to his utterances. As a Tigray he is now clinging on for his life. Imagine that one of his first acts was to confer a WHO Humanitarian Award to the despot Mugaby in Zimbabwbe (for his service to children's health I think). This had to be overturned due to international abhorrence but the intent and mentality remains.

So again I say 82.500 for Mayo v Kerry/Tyrone.

Hopefully it be Mayo v Kerry.

Ciarraí Abú.
