Would of been a travesty if Mayo didn't get through.....The Dubs if truth be told got away with murder,I'd have to watch it all again to correctly count the amount of red/black cards they got away with, der was that many of them.....

Yes I think so, on and off the field, the likes of the Brogan's, Dean Rock, Kevin McManamon and Stephen Cluxton are great players and ambassadors of the game of Gaelic football, I know Philly McMahon can be a bit of a scamp but has done good work with kids in Ballymun. Brian Fenton' s high fielding is a joy to watch he reminds me of a salmon leaping up from the river catching flies. Jack McCaffrey another fantastic footballer to watch and has got involved in charity work in Africa. Also I thought themselves (and Tipperary) gave very dignified tributes to the bloody sunday centenary memorial in Croke Park last winter. I don't think their tactics has harmed gealic football their success has made the Leinster championship null and void a such and the 6 in a row while is a great achievement, no-one wants to see the all-Ireland championship dominated by 1 county (unless you are from that county of course), that is what is bad for gealic football but that's not their fault. As for today's match the only issue I would have with them was James McCarthy's elbow at the end of normal time, I don't think john small's hit on eoghan McLaughlin was intentional to hurt him. Both teams put in the hard hits and there was high challenges from both teams. They gave it everything, both didn't want to lose and served up a great game of football. Dublin didn't give up and fought to end and shaked hands and congratulated Mayo at the end, so yes they were great champions. Also I want to wish Eoghan McLaughlin well, I hope he is not too injuried and hopefully he will be fit for the final. DUALSUPPORT (Limerick) - Posts: 1038 - 14/08/2021 22:43:30 2371214 Link 6 |
Spare a thought for the poor Croke Park cleaners who'll have to clean the dressing rooms themselves this year. if_in_doubt (Kildare) - Posts: 3691 - 14/08/2021 22:43:51 2371215 Link 9 |
Do, that's all you have.

A huge congrats to Mayo. I genuinely thought they had a great chance today. Some of the key factors Dublin had in their favour in past years were no longer there. One of the main ones being the bench. The lads they brought in today, were a big step down on what they used to have. WanPintWin (Galway) - Posts: 2369 - 14/08/2021 22:49:37 2371219 Link 4 |
Jesus am I one of the only people outside Dublin who didnt mind seeing them win..I think they played super football up to last year..it all fell completely asunder this evening, the lack of discipline was alarming..I would question management in this..the breaking of the training ban don't think it would have happened under Gavin..the cluxton affair was left simmer,is he gone or not?then there was the case of players walking away ..everyone will say the dubs will be back, today won't do any favors and a lot of players may now step away..also a question how did aos get involved with philly when he wasn't on field of play??do croke park look at this or say ah it's all right match is over.. Yes Cillian O Connor the greatest and most prolific scorer in championship history is a tap over merchant. He has single handledly pushed the dubs close, without much other forward support. Show some respect for a fantastic player. On his day there is no one more clinical. Mannion not as consistent or prolific, but a great player. McCaffrey is a wing back……Jesus. wackojacko (Longford) - Posts: 25 - 14/08/2021 22:56:40 2371232 Link 7 |
Cillian O Conmor is one of the top forwards in the game and has been for a good few years, the stats don't tell lies.

More than a little bit. . It wasn't Comerford who caused the Dublin forwards to kick 14 points in 90mins or gift turnover after turnover to the Mayo backs. Dublin still had more possession. Its the cutting edge up front that's deserted them. Can see now why Costello has never been fully trusted. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 5263 - 14/08/2021 23:14:53 2371240 Link 9 |
I would have a fit Cillian on that first 15 any day. His work rate is excellent and will get you a goal.

Absolute nonsense and sad that people still believe this nonsense. I don't know what the man has to do to prove his worth. Big games over the last 10 years: Scoreless: Donegal 2012 Dublin 2013 Dublin 2015 drawn game Dublin 2016 replay Kerry 2017 replay 1 from play 2011 Cork 3 (1 goal) from play 2011 Kerry 1 from play 2012 Dublin 10 (3-1) from play 2013 Donegal 3 from play Kerry 2014 5 (1-2) from play Kerry 2014 replay 4 (1-1) from play Dublin 2015 replay 3 from play Tyrone 2016 2 from play Dublin 2016 3 from play Kerry 2017 3 from play Dublin 2017 2 from play Kerry 2019 3 (1 goal) from play Donegal 2019 1 from play Dublin 2019 4 from play Dublin 2020 There's an honest summary of his scoring in big games. Now add in the fact that he's one of the best free kick takers and you've got an excellent player who clearly performs in big games, including closing moments of finals. He has a higher average quarter finals onwards than he does in the Connacht championship. He scores more on average vs the Dubs than any other team. jonjon (Mayo) - Posts: 99 - 14/08/2021 23:15:30 2371242 Link 3 |
I've heard rumours of the Tyrone Covid players are after having Grandpa Joe like recoveries this evening and that they could be ready for 10am tomorrow? jonno (Kildare) - Posts: 261 - 14/08/2021 23:27:52 2371247 Link 4 |
Does anybody think that Jim Gavin knew when to get out?

An All Ireland is an All Ireland and you beat who is front of you to win it. However there will be a little shock and possible frustration in Kerry after this result. They badly wanted to end this Dublin run and that opportunity is gone. I'm sure if they win Sam though that won't matter too much. It is all set up for a period of Kerry dominance now.

Great evening for Mayo, could be said it was Mayo worst performance against Dublin but its the one that finally beat them. tommy132 (Mayo) - Posts: 640 - 14/08/2021 23:46:15 2371255 Link 4 |
Fair play to Mayo and James Horan, will probably be outsiders for the final but hopefully you learned a lot about yourselves today. To me the biggest lesson to be learned from today is that no matter how many things appear to be going against you to keep going and keep going no matter what. On a note of caution try and keep the scoreboard ticking over. Even one point in the second period of extra time would have been so much easier on the heart, lots of hearts. Also trust James. I wouldn't say the Dubs were particularly dirty and I don't believe they are, but seriously refs have to ref the game as per the rules. Imagine a Mayo player ploughed in with that shoulder to the jaw, or hand trip or whatever, pick your choice. Referees need to look at this game and see why favorites don't deserve preferential treatment. Ref the game in fairness that's all players and fans ask at all levels. jonno (Kildare) - Posts: 261 - 14/08/2021 23:57:20 2371261 Link 4 |
