Don't know about record - but surely fuels the arguments for an increase in the goal value to 5 pts (for hurling, not football). omahant (USA) - Posts: 2531 - 01/08/2021 15:44:08 2366446 Link 0 |
This is not senior hurling.

The Christy Ring Cup is not senior hurling.

No idea if it's a record but think the senior game yesterday had the highest combined score in senior cship hurling for a 70 min game. Outrageous scoring really. Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread a bit! tiobraid (Tipperary) - Posts: 4119 - 01/08/2021 16:43:36 2366466 Link 1 |
All-Ireland Semi-Final 1954, Wexford 12-17 - 2-03 Antrim. AfricanGael (UK) - Posts: 1947 - 01/08/2021 16:52:45 2366469 Link 0 |
For an individual points total (excluding goals), I think the closest that I can find is the 1-40 Cork scored against Westmeath in 2019. So it could be a record Marlon_JD (Tipperary) - Posts: 1823 - 01/08/2021 17:14:18 2366475 Link 1 |
Thats 20 points as 30 are coming from goals. 41 points were scored today, Has there been many or any games where more than 41 points were scored? KillingFields (Limerick) - Posts: 3480 - 01/08/2021 17:31:29 2366486 Link 0 |
Yes it is.

The 40 points highlighted by Marlon_JD (Tipperary) for Cork was the record in Championship anyway so I'd be confident that 41 for a senior team is the highest.

I would think that 40 scores in a match by one team is a record. I can't remember anything near it. Cork scored 5-31 (36 scores) against Waterford in the 1982 Munster Championship Final. That's the nearest I can remember. Midleton (Cork) - Posts: 643 - 01/08/2021 23:49:38 2366695 Link 0 |
Arguing for the sake of it, as usual, trying to prove yourself. Male adult inter county, will that suit ya? They're not minor, U20, masters, trans or female. CC2020 (Kilkenny) - Posts: 173 - 02/08/2021 02:28:16 2366721 Link 2 |
Would any team score 41 pts (goal free), if goals were worth 5 pts - and should they ? omahant (USA) - Posts: 2531 - 02/08/2021 07:13:54 2366727 Link 0 |
Well Cork scored 1-40 v Westmeath in 2019.

No being biased but the 0-41 points total (only) is up there I would think, adding in goals on top of total isnt the way I read the question, Wexfords 53 points combined goals and points total from the 1950s I think might be one of the the highest combined totals...0-41 as in points is certainly one I didn't hear before and as many know I do a fair bit of reviews from the past...Waterfords 5-31 against Waterford in 1982 I remember and that was out of this world and even beyond at the time...Kilkenny got some ferocious combined totals against Offaly I think around 2005 or 06 or so and same against Waterford in 2008 final...for all of Offalys 0-41 yesterday they still only won by 21 points which is not unheard of in any league or competition these days or ever really...the 0-41(points only)the interesting bit..

Just checked 2008 AI final, 3-30 to 1-13 so not by all means the highest combined total of 38 points by Kilkenny, in 2005 the beat us Offaly by 6-28 to 0-15, that's a 31 point deficit and hard on any team, if there was more time in that game they would have beat us by more, and we were not the only team of that era Kilkenny destroyed, sounds petty but I never could support them after some of the tidings they dished out...I know people will say only doing what they went out to to and lads playing for places but what score do a team need to win by to impress the manager...another debate for another day I know...6-28 is 46 points in total...again points only is the original question..

Tipp got a few 5-28s over the last 15 years or so, one was against us Offaly some years ago..
