Ah it was wrong for that woman to interview the lad, it was clear the poor fella had some issues, no doubt she knew all the lads on the team alright, but to go up to a fella like that was distasteful.

I can maybe understand the England part but how can you begrudge Mayo?!? Especially if they're up against the Dubs?

Replying To Onion_Sack:  "Ok! An honest question for everyone on this thread. Have any of you ever lived in England?"
Yes; there has always been an issue with the England football team, it attracted a particular support but that is to be fair mainly changing and English people themselves feel more comfortable supporting them, if only in passing during major tournaments.

What struck me though, whilst acknowledging the England brand is more inclusive and friendly is whilst Southgate appears to be very humble, modest, modern and inclusive he has been around the England national team set up for 30 years; his comments yesterday on invasions, and the energy of beating that off being in the stadium against Germany was very strange, but it does in my opinion give a hint to what he has been around for 30 years; not sure it needs to be brought into football.

The concern would be what a win would unleash but as for neighbours, friends, normal folk who are proud of their national team good luck to them and this current team certainly appear very likeable.

We can only imagine the excitement, parties and all round chaos if Ireland was in a major final in Dublin; what a dream that would be!

I agree. I have to say that was my feeling when I saw the clip too. It wasn't fair to hold that poor chap up to ridicule like that.

Who is playing in the soccer final. Is soccer a profession, or a sport? Why are supporters allowed to use lasers. What percentage of supporters are hooligans?"
Only if the laser isn't too powerful. Each football laser has to have a certificate of approval before it's let into a stadium. It's pointed at a confirmation candle for 5 minutes, and if the candle starts to melt, it's not approved.

The League of Ireland fan video is a bit of craic, 1 of the funniest videos I have seen on youtube, the guy asked to be interviewed. There is another interview of another fan I think he was a shamrock Rovers fan he said if he saw anyone in a bohs jersey on the street he would be inclined to give them a slap :D. The girl interviewing is Eamonn Zayed's sister.

It's their big day on Sunday and we can only dream of been in their position…. Most of Europe will be shouting for Italy and England know that…and do they care…? Not one jot….. If England win it won't annoy me… I would be more annoyed when Cavan loose a HURLING match believe me…..!!"
Think Ireland in a cup final would be well down the pecking order when it comes to dreams. Maybe a win over Tyrone in a championship match.

If England fans quay to know why we want them to always, they could do a lot worse than read the first 5-or-so pages of this thread.

As I say for family reasons I will be hoping Italy win. But if England do. Good luck to them. They seem a genuinely nice bunch of guys. And Southgate comes across as a decent guy.

Replying To KillingFields:  "What you implying?
Do you support a premier league team?
Do you watch english soccer a lot? If you do then its extremely petty to be totally against england winning this..."
You might often support a player in one setting but not in another. I would have been really happy to see Man Utd do well at one point when Keane, Irwin,Carey were involved but why would I want to see England win. There are plenty of clubs in Cork that we would have a rivalry with but when players play with Cork then you put that to one side.

There's zero contradiction in Irish people supporting an English club (as these clubs have always attracted Irish players) and not supporting their national team given that (i) we have our own team (which has nearly always been picked from England-based players) and (ii) there is a long political context to the relationship between these islands.

It is you, in some attempt no doubt to come across as enlightened and to take a moral high ground, that has reduced the argument to such ignorant, simplistic terms. Support England if you want but your ignorance and detachment from reality puts you in no position to say what others should do.

Look at Croatia, with a population of only about 4 million, made it to the World cup final only 3 years ago, or Uruguay who got to four World cup finals and won two when their population was less than two million or Denmark who won the Euros in 1992 with no preparation knocking out the holders Holland in the semi finals and beating then beating the World Champions Germany in the final.

Irish kids need to be given every opportunity to compete with the best of them on the European and World stages and I don't that's the case at the moment, what's holding them back is the national psyche as much as anything else.

Everyone can dream of playing beautiful football and winning, even Tyrone.
