People were giving out about the back door system. People are giving out about the knock out system. There is no good way of doing this. The really good teams will benefit from either system, unless there is an open draw. But an open draw would mean the provincials would go out the window, which is the only realistic thing that a 2nd tier team can try and win now. No replays, neutral venues, 5 matches is no big ask after provincials. Tyrone played 10 in 2005. Lesser teams might be lucky and get 2or 3 games with the knockout system so it's a win win for them. I would split the counties in 2 sections Div 1/2 in the A Championship and 3/4 in the B …. 2 groups of 16 with a draw made in each section for 4 weeks meaning each County got 4 games with the top 8 going through to the Q finals in both… You would not know your next opponents until after your 1/2/3rd games were played meaning a new draw after each round.. ( 2 home games and 2 away ) ..
