I am in my early 40s but not from that part of town. Black Ash is a car park now. Vernon Mount used to be motorcycle track?? Never been there though you see the house on South Link. Barry Tea HQ is a series of retail outlets now I'm guessing..or maybe its still there..I never take any notice

It might be a sign of us getting older and looking back through rose tinted glasses but I dont think so. Between nanny stateism and the ever increasing rules and regulations governing our every move I'd hate to be 18 living in these times.

Monaghan v Tyrone for me is very much 50/50. catch22 (USA) - Posts: 2148 - 30/07/2021 12:23:50 2365756 Link 0 |

"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step" is a common saying that originated from a Chinese proverb. The quotation is from Chapter 64 of the Dao De Jing ascribed to Laozi, although it is also erroneously ascribed to his contemporary, Confucius.

But alas, not our family 'really old' home which stood isolated on the old "Avenue" leading to Vernon Mount - knocked down around 1970 when I was a wee lad as we relocated - humble beginnings - you can read between the lines as to conditions.

Many of Confucius teachings especially those dealing with women have no place in modern society.

Before I was born but many friends older than me grew up in damp houses some with no power or water. I chose to live that way at times in my life because I sidnt want to pay rent but I'd hate to see the kids grow up in those conditions. Easy to see why your parents emigrated. Do you still have family in Cork?

I emigrated alone and came out to an Irish uncle / American cousins (that I knew from visits to Ireland) - and yes, most family members still live in Cork (some have passed away).

Good to see the four best teams left in it. Two interesting semi-finals in store. Dublin won't have it all their own way against Mayo, they almost never do. Neither will Tyrone fear Kerry. Actually they'll relish a cut at the kingdom. However, I wouldn't like it to be my team that faces two men the next day out, each after having a very quiet provincial final: Con and David Clifford from Kerry. I think Mayo and Tyrone could respectively bear the brunt of a backlash from these assassins. foreveryoung (USA) - Posts: 1909 - 01/08/2021 17:46:36 2366495 Link 1 |
Down to the last 4 now and I don't think Mayo will have seen much to worry them so far from this Dublin side. Dubh_linn (Dublin) - Posts: 2312 - 02/08/2021 09:59:06 2366748 Link 0 |
Ignore him Wally, he thought Tyrone won there first Ulster title in the 2000's instead of the 1950's. When asked he ignored. Its the same here.

No I didn't actually, that typo re. provincial and All-Ireland was not reposted as well you know. What it it with so many of you Tyrone people, always so aggressive, if you don't like your lot there, move out, nobody has you tied up. Country is getting sick of your chips on shoulders at this stage. AfricanGael (UK) - Posts: 1947 - 02/08/2021 12:11:37 2366806 Link 1 |
How do you know that it's a dull life? If players enjoy it and I'm sure most really do then let them at it. It's kind of aul nonsense talk about things being better years ago.

I think myself and Fridge have actually been very calm and measured with our retort. You on the other hand have been extremely aggressive in your original post and then with various replies. You even used the f, word. Why are you so angry? What has happened? Do you need a hug? Wally (Tyrone) - Posts: 912 - 02/08/2021 13:04:45 2366834 Link 0 |
If the f word offends someone from Northern Ireland then it's clear who needs the hugs. Actually it's you Wally who started this argument by telling me that I was wrong when I said Ulster teams had won f all Division 1 titles. If you consider it's the province that has had high representation in the Division then the return is extremely poor. You can disagree with an opinion and that's fine but you can't disagree with facts without expecting a backlash. AfricanGael (UK) - Posts: 1947 - 02/08/2021 14:44:30 2366893 Link 1 |
Fair play to you. Will you ever move back? When you retire? Or have you kids or grandkids over there now?
Viking66 (Wexford) - Posts: 11827 - 02/08/2021 14:49:18 2366895 Link 0 |
This isnt an opinion. Its facts. You have said quite a few times now that Ulster teams have won f all division 1 titles. That is not true. Now, if you had said that as a province we have had a poor return and left it at that, then we would have to agree. Unfortunately your aggressive and childish bias and also your very poor grammar, have let you down again. Wally (Tyrone) - Posts: 912 - 02/08/2021 15:59:25 2366909 Link 3 |
