Do Cavan Hold The Record Of The County With The Most All-Stars Relegated To Div 4?

2008 is crazy , how in Gods name did westmeath get 2 all stars?? cant believe wexford got nothing in 2008. donie shine should have got one in 2010 as should graham reilly, he was top scorer from play in the country, not sure paddy keenan should have got one in front of him. i think barry owens got on in 2003 for a quater final appearance which was odd. kildare got one in 1991 and were knocked out in leinster first round by louth, i think thats the craziest.

How did Kildare do in the league that year? I know it held a lot of weight back then.

Think a few ulster players got all stars in the early 90s despite their team being knocked out of the championship in the first round.

There might be hope for some Cavan all stars this year again so.

Cavan are 25/1 to win Ulster from Division 4. That looks generous.
When has a bottom tier league team last won Ulster?

Paddy Keenans All Star was the most obvious simpity vote of all time. Had what happened in the Leinster final not happened would he have still won one?

Barry Owens won one in 04 when Fermanagh got to the semi final. Won another in 06.

The overall season was taken into account in those days. That's how Kevin O Brian won one in 1990. Micky Quinn from Leitrim won one around the same time.

When have the Ulster Champions been 25/1 to retain the title, I'd say never.

On that basis there's still hope for Cillian O'Connor who scored 2-24 in 3.5 league games, but I don't see that happening. The league counts for very little now when it comes to picking all-stars. Even an injury during championship can reduce a player's prospects. Paddy Durcan's injury during the final last year put paid to him getting an award since his man (Kilkenny) had a great game after he went off at half-time. Ironically the fact that he had curbed Kilkenny up to going off never seems to have registered. Paddy was outstanding in the run to the final too.

And here comes Tirchonaill1, the wind up merchant...

Well, a worse title would be "As a div1 team loosing an ulster final to a Div 3 team who subsequently became a div4 team, when all you had to do was turn up" pffffftt

I think it's generally accepted he should've got one last year. There's always a controversial call made, every year without fail.

Can anyone name the All Ireland winning county (football) that got no All Stars in the forward line yet the team that they beat got 3 awarded to their forwards…? Always something strange about AllStar
awards… overrated in my opinion…!!!!

I think there should be some sort of points system from those that decide on the all-stars / combined with stats like the bonus points system from fantasy football. From both league and championship games an average number of points per game, but players have to play at least a minimum number of games. That way an outstanding talent could win an All Star even if he only lost a provincial final, and it wouldn't be massively weighted towards All Ireland semi finalists and finalists. Possibly we'd know the 15 All Stars before the final!

Oh I know that. One time the league champions had to get at least one All Star every year. Not sure when that ended.

It most definitely won't. Once the league champions had to get at least one All Star regardless of what happened in the championship.

Realisticly whoever wins the provisional championships should have at least one All Star.

Durcan not getting an All Star last year was a joke.
Ian Burke got one a few years ago from his Corofin form. Both Walsh and Comer were much better for Galway than him.

Ah no that game is history, I wouldn't mind if we had been beaten by a good team but our management got it completely wrong so hopefully they will never repeat the same mistakes again.
