You're spot on regarding Paddy McB and not taking goals. He has been a notorious culprit of taking the easy option fisting over with the goal beckoning. The point made no difference or sense tonight. Himself, McGonigle and Ban need extra goal shooting drills as all guilty of blowing up big goal opportunities.

Alot of positives from a Donegal perspective. Looked much better defensively despite what we conceded. To be honest I wasn't overly concerned given the players to come back in. Thought McCole done really well as did Ethan O'Donnell who is a player I always rated highly. If we can get through the championship with McMenamin and McFadden Ferry staying fit I think defensively we'll be ok. I don't actually agree with some of the opinions about been in 3rd gear etc. I actually though for the majority of the first half and first ten minutes of the second half the intensity levels were high. Having watched all the Dublin games I think in terms of intensity and performance tonight was a big step up from previous games apart from the 3rd quarter against Galway. If the teams meet again this year I see Dublin by 5 or 6 which I think is about right. Very impressed with how Dublin clinically punished Donegal with cheap turnovers. If you're going for a score and miss you need to hope the ball goes dead or can nearly guarantee a score at the other end. Hopefully any injuries picked up tonight are only minor. MacNialais especially looked to have come on a fair bit in the last couple of weeks. panamasam (Australia) - Posts: 2771 - 13/06/2021 00:26:25 2350049 Link 0 |
The difference is that Ulster continually have the most counties in Division 1. Surely you understand this.

Nice to see Shane Carthy back in Dublin in a Dublin jersey again too after all hes been through. Surprised he didn't get the nod given his form last year. TheUsername (Dublin) - Posts: 4441 - 13/06/2021 10:26:47 2350106 Link 3 |
That's true. People read too much into one off results. Well done to Wicklow on their fantastic result. They scored 14 times and Cavan scored 18 times. Tough luck on Cavan but I wouldn't conclude Wicklow are a better. Kerry hammered Tyrone. Kerry are probably better than Tyrone. I think though in the last league meeting between the sides ,Tyrone won. Some of the goals Tyrone conceded were uncharacteristic from them and if you are going to concede them, you might as well do it in a league semi final. They have time to rectify their mistakes. I think they will and should they meet Kerry/Dublin later in the year I would expect a closer game. Not saying they will win but I would expect them to be far more competitive bennybunny (Cork) - Posts: 3917 - 13/06/2021 11:03:43 2350120 Link 2 |
What a horrible spectacle of a game. They need the basketball hoops to replace goal posts next. suckvalleypaddy (Galway) - Posts: 1662 - 13/06/2021 11:16:41 2350125 Link 1 |
Thats the trend in the game generally. Up the field, soft score; down the field, soft score. Frees for catching the ball. A culture of disrespecting, and even being ashamed by, good defensive play.

According to some pundits who have a love fest with Dublin they play the right kind of football. It's been repeatedly shown they play a newer brand of the old puke football.

You say Derry just about got the job done, does that mean Dublin just about got the job done v Donegal? 4 points wins in both games. Antrim, Armagh, Derry, Down and Monaghan all won vital games.

And once again Ulster will have 4 counties in Division 1 next year.

Impressive by Dublin, probably not a 4 point game. 6 or 7 points would be a true reflection. TheRock2121 (Donegal) - Posts: 1125 - 13/06/2021 21:36:23 2350508 Link 1 |
Yes, maybe, but the puke is puke is pure gold.

Great analysis of the Donegal v Dublin game tonight on League Sunday. Not one single word.

The standard in Leinster is poor excluding Dublin obviously. Ulster has more counties than Munster and more than Connaught. So not really a shock statistic.

Sean should not be a pundit, he described the brawl in the Meath Kildare match as something you'd see at almost every club match every week !! he is a joke, his bitterness towards Donegal is always evident too, thank God the BBC is covering the Ulster Championship, we'll get great coverage and top pundits. not sure who runs sport in RTE but they don't seem to have much of a clue, at least Pat the b***** makes some slightly interesting points at times. I never said it was a "shock" statistic, did you not read the context of the replies? Regardless of the respective number in each province, 50% of the Division 1 teams being from Ulster is absolutely an overrepresentation. Next year will be the third year in a row that this will have occurred. 2014 is the only year in the past decade where Ulster did not have the most counties in Division 1. greatpoint (USA) - Posts: 426 - 14/06/2021 12:56:16 2350737 Link 0 |
