I wonder is the gap that huge in Munster, at least outside of Kerry. Last year Limerick absolutely destroyed Cork in the Munster League Final and as I say were unlucky against Tipp, results of other games the sides played in the past two years show. And remember Clare are also doing well in the League despite recent retirements. Of course Kerry are still the likely winners in Munster, but the abyss is not as huge as some would think.

I believe if Offaly beat Fermanagh in the semi final then no League final will be played, perhaps someone can confirm that. AfricanGael (UK) - Posts: 1947 - 30/05/2021 10:16:28 2346451 Link 0 |
Wicklow will envelop Cavan in a cocoon of horror. sponger (Wicklow) - Posts: 2896 - 30/05/2021 20:38:12 2346677 Link 0 |
Depends when Offaly are playing championship,if Kerry and Clare win their semi finals, there will be no division 1 or division 2 final.

Isnt it utter farcical that if such and such a team their semi final then there will be no final...absolutely rediculous..as condensed as it is Kilkenny and Wexford couldnt play a hurling game last Sunday due to the Covid situation in Wexford panel..they played it this weekend, the world didnt end, we are in unusual times...is it the end of the world if a team plays a league final in any of the divisions one Sunday and is out in the championship the next Sunday....realistically most should be looking for their league final and medal as they wont be winning a provincilal let alone an All Ireland...play out the league in condensed format...winning a league semi final and not getting to play your final...one couldnt make it up. Both Tipp and Cavan scored more than their opponents in each of their games. Outscoring your opponents in a final results in being crowned "Champions". That's my understanding of it anyway. Hope this helps lads.

Exactly. And for what it's worth I'd rate Limerick as been better than tipp. So in that case it's very bewildering. And look at Cavan, unbelievable

As far as I know Cavan had to win a series of games and then had a final against Donegal I think... Donegal had over 70 minutes to beat Cavan and become champions and they even played against only 14 Cavanmen for 20 of these minutes but Cavan still won because they scored more than Donegal and played better. I know it was played in Wintertime but Donegal in my recollection (following Cavan since the '60s) have never had much bother beating Cavan no matter what time of the year it was... all in all a bewildering achievement by Cavan..

Is the lack of tries that's confusing you?

You know what's more bewildering Meath being crowned Leinster champions in 2010 because they didn't win the final

Yeah look at Cavan, still objectively better than Meath

Very disappointed to learn that there might not be a league final this season, I think it's something the GAA has to review, at the end of day wether it's div1 or div4 it's the trophy and the medals that matter for the players and managements at the end of any competition or tournament. When was the last time Meath and Cavan played each other in an important match? I mean league or championship. And who won? I don't think that Meath and Cavan have met in the championship since the 1950's, unless it was in a qualifier. For two counties that are not even in the same province, there's a very strong healthy dislike by each for the other.

Yeah I know, Royaldunne is remarkably bitter

Last met in the championship in 2005 (qualifier). Cavan won. Last met in the league in 2018. Cavan won. Last meeting before that was 2016. Cavan won. cavanman47 (Cavan) - Posts: 4981 - 31/05/2021 14:27:12 2346989 Link 4 |
Wow! Thank you for your answer, Cavanman. That's a significant advantage to Cavan. I wonder when was the last time that Meath actually beat Meath in an important game? I'd be very surprised if royaldunne doesn't know the answer to that one, or is he too young?

Really impressed with Offaly so far and now we have a bit of breathing space until the Kildare game on 4th July. tulachmhór (Offaly) - Posts: 145 - 02/06/2021 23:29:57 2347864 Link 0 |
Fairly handy ? .. you could also say you beat 2 teams that played div 4 football last year and a Tipp team still to find their form.. that said three wins is great momentum and Fermanagh have been forced to make many changes through injury and unavailability .. and have been very unlucky with losing key midfielders ... but fairly handy is the rosiest of rose tinted glasses and putting on my blinkers I'd be expectant of turning yiz over... and that would line up a div 3 final after all lol

Westmeath and Laois have been better than Offaly for the guts of 20 years now and are still a level above them?
