Ticket Prices To Be Hiked?

(Oldest Posts First) - Go To The Latest Post

being brutally honest, I dont know the price of tickets as its so long ago I could not afford to keep going...building a home and raising a family 20 years ago put the brakes on my support..I have been to a few since but not in recent times..couldnt believe the cost of tickets when last I did purchase, and if you are bringing the family it is a most costly day out...everyone to their own but I tend to go "on the day" if the match is home game but heading off to Thurles or Croke Park now, those days are well behind me, more luck to those who can still afford to do so...

Have none of you heard of kite flying?
It happens all the time. Say 30% rise, cue outrage.
OK then, we'll only raise by 10%....

There was no kite flying in 2019 when they raised ticket prices by 33%. One of the reasons they gave for the increase would have made Father Ted proud, but of course they knew the clowns would fall for it.

We may complain but I believe the price hiking will happen sooner rather than later. From the reaction some of you don't seem to face reality by rejecting the any such anticipated price rises citing family circumstances ignoring the fact that most of us have or had families to raise too and got by. I'm neither for or against the possible ticket price rises but like the vast majority of us I will accept what our GAA decision-makers agree for the good of the institution and game. Remember that county teams and clubs up and down the country have benefitted from the organisation's handouts.

I'm just stating that if Leitrim were to play Dublin they'd suffer same outcome as any team in Leinster and majority in country. Actually since it's been 7 years since anyone beat them every county is the same. However I'd wager Meath Kildare Westmeath etc would fancy their chances against Leitrim, I actually think Meath and Kildare would beat them handily. People in glass house and all that.

Win, lose or draw, I'd say they'd probably get a game anyway for a start, nothing worse than seeing a team rollover in a provincial final.

I'm inclined to agree with you here.
Ed Sheeran or U2 play in Croke Park and there's not a peep about €100 a ticket, sold out in minutes.
When it comes to the GAA, all you hear about is "oh its an expensive day out if you have a family and 2 kids"....in spite of the 2 kids getting in for 5-10 euro each, or free to many league games.

Well for a start Mayo or Galway wouldn't tolerate every Connacht final against Dublin in Croke Park. There would be a home and away arrangement made there, not like the way Leinster counties have rolled over down the decades to play every game in Dublin's back yard. So to answer your question a Dublin Mayo Connacht final in a packed McHale park, it would be too hard to call.

some clubs have benefited , a lot of clubs haven't. Ed sheeran /U2 argument doesn't hold up, professional global artists and amateur players giving their all for counties isn't a fair comparison. On top of this the faithful , many of whom support and are involved at grass roots level with their clubs get fleeced every time they enter Croke Park from admission price, catering prices, museum etc............but I suppose someone has to cover the cost of mckenna, duffy, mcgill etc "the men who know whats best for the association" as they continue to ignore the voices the majority of members at club level

You are paying for the performance, quality, interest in the games. All these drive the prices. If attendances were dropping considerably then prices could drop but theyre not.
Catering prices ie food, drink in stadium is driven by demand. You cant say people are being fleeced by that.
You dont have to go into museum if going up thee.....

dont go to any concerts either need I say....cannot afford them either...was at one concert in my life must 30 years ago..sad I know but that was my set up...some people even my age with kids seem to be able to down tools and off to "Westlife" or ""Take That" at the drop of a hat...the problem of course as I see it is "mam" takes the kids...again lucky them...I have 2 teenagers with no grandparents for last 4 or 5 years..and when they were alive I wouldnt expect them to mind my children while I try to relive my youth...everyone to their own...GAA is a costly day out what ever way you look at it, especially if all the family want to to..thankfully I dont have that problem..as I say all to their own, but tickets are expensive and impossible to get for All Irelands...

the GAA know people are going to turn up because of the passion they have for the games and their counties. They are in a position to do something in relation to the catering prices in the stadium, Prices being driven demand??? in the free economy absolutely, but the GAA forgets it is built on volunteerism, often overlooked by the top brass when it comes to pricing but championed when it talks about the commitment of our players, but says pricing is fair when compared with soccer/rugby, frowns upon managers/coaches getting paid, the list of contradictions goes on.....

The GAA arent interested in changing the catering and it wouldnt be in their position to do so. There is contracts and any company who runs the services on offer be it compass or aramark wouldnt agree to GAA dictating what they offer.
Prices are built on demand and while GAA may be built on volunteers that doesnt mean that everything should or has to be as cheap as possible.
