Yeah I read 'Unlimited Heartbreak'. It was a fascinating read. Yeah I wouldnt disagree with you. Alit of clubs had it in for Ahane. They were so successfull. Like I said anyone who was any good in a ten Mile radius played for them. And Young Irelands went to the wall partly for the reason you said and partly because they had no pitch or underage structure..they relied on blow ins. bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 16/03/2021 20:56:44 2334353 Link 0 |
Well I had wrote a pretty detailed take on Northsude hurling and tbe demise of Treaty Sarsfields. Thomondgate has no hurlers now..or if there's a few it's less than 5 and its not senior. This area was a famous hurling heartland since the foundation of the GAA. They never took to Na Piarsaigh for whatever reasons..multiple reasons really. Treaty disbanded as Na Piarsaigh came good.. The area is also older now. To be honest there's a huge rugby tradition now but there were always fantastic hurlers and sports people. The famous Soda Cakes used to pack trains to go out to Castleconnell when Ahane and Treaty were in their pomp. There's room for 1 new elite senior club in the city centre where guys can come from all over town to play in a top class environment. Like a Young Ireland club for the new century. It might mean the total demise for the small junior city clubs but I think theyd still keep plugging away. Monaleen and Mungret are not going to get these inner city kids..but there is a market...now is the time bloodyban (Limerick) - Posts: 1710 - 16/03/2021 21:42:46 2334359 Link 0 |
I like how you slag off the posh parts of town and then yourself snub Moyross and Ballynanty for your Northside team. Also your assessment of the "posh" view and hatred for NaP in Thomondgate is wrong and there is no way lads would rather travel than play with them and your idea that they are seen as blow ins is 1970s talk Overall you dont have a clue about the Northside Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1236 - 17/03/2021 01:18:15 2334369 Link 1 |
No offence but that's awful thing to say about three clubs inner city clubs, those three clubs deserve respect, you might as well say get rid of clubs in most divisions to create a great team, St Patricks are a very good intermediate football club, bit of luck could of beaten the intermediate champs, very unlucky to get relegated in the hurling, are doing some amount of work underage, claughaun are back senior in football, reached the semi final of the junior championship, again trying their best at underage, old Christians unfortunately are struggling but local club ballinacurra seem to be improving underage, the three clubs tried underage at hurling to join together, didn't work, maybe if the bigger clubs stop cherry picking the strong underage players would help.

Regarding the situation in Limerick, I don't think the govt ban on GAA is helping. The youth need to be exercising and training. Not sitting on a couch- watching the 6 nations or the EPL. galwayford (Galway) - Posts: 2520 - 17/03/2021 12:15:49 2334380 Link 0 |
Really..?! How many from Thomondgate on the Na Piarsaigh team...answer none. The area used produce a senior hurling team that won 3 seniors in a row so something isn't adding up Breezy. You don't have a clue.

The youth in Inner city Limerick do play sports..just not Hurling. Its very hard to compete with well organised ,top quality Junior soccer clubs and long established Rugby clubs. But I do feel there is room for a well resourced hurling only elite club

I think you hot the wrong end of the stick there. Iv no axe to grind with them. Fine Peoe in these clubs. They just aren't an attractive option for the talented sports kids. I did specifically refer to hurling...gaelic football I wouldnt have the knowledge. All I can say is that the 3 clubs you mention haven't put out a top quality underage them in 20 or 30 years..Thats a disgrace in my view. They are working hard but maybe not working hard enough. Those 3 clubs are , im sorry to say a laughing stock in hurling.. Gearoid Hegarty is a fluke...a total anolomy that proves the rule. Whats needed is a total balnk slate to identify the problem...find solutions and crank up the investment. The 3 clubs need to join in Hurling and rebrand ...rebuild and use Linericks great success to get going.

Kids from Thomondgate not playing hurling has nothing to do with attitudes towards NaP. How many travel to play rather than join NaP like you say they would rather do? Treaty Sarsfields dying had nothing to do with Northside attitudes to NaP and numbers were in massive decline for a long time before NaP ever became a big club. I grew up on the Northside in the dying days of Treaty so I have plenty of clue. That 3 in a row you mention was 1951 to 53 which is 70 years ago a lot changes in an inner city suburb in 70 years. It was also 3 of only 4 titles won and anyone actually from the area knows Treaty were way more famous for being a great football club Breezy (Limerick) - Posts: 1236 - 17/03/2021 23:23:43 2334437 Link 0 |
A laughing stock, football aside, St Patricks intermediate this year, claughaun semi final junior hurling, will we disband All the clubs that lost to the laughing stock, you clearly have no knowledge of inner city.

Like I said, you clearly have no knowledge, the three clubs did join up and it didn't work. Speak to people in the city first and you will find out the problems, the county board and the munster Council are the problem.
