That's nonsense. Mayo by themselves havent been a million miles away behind Dublin. Dublins bench has been the big difference maker. If they were able to bring some of the best players from Connacht off the bench, and if those players had been used to playing with the Mayo lads, theyd have won some of those losses. Mayo and Galway? Any 2 of the top 4 in Ulster? Kerry and any 1 of those 6?

Nonsense

You think so? But sure people would not be allowed to travel there. If all the millions was taken from you crowd you would end up watching it in Ballymun

Sorry misunderstood the question. I think a combined Mayo and Galway team, any combination of Tyrone or Donegal plus Monaghan or maybe Cavan, or Kerry plus any of the above would probably beat Dublin at least as often as they lost. Dublins big advantage over the rest is similar to Limericks now or the great Kilkenny teams of this millenium in hurling. They are able to bring on 5 or 6 subs who are as good as the lads in the starting 15.

Plus they always play at home, have favourable refs, have millions being pumped into them(by GAA as well as their various sponsors), don't have to travel for training, have meals delivered to them, have the media (especially RTE) on their side- the list goes on really.

How do they not have to travel for training? Maybe not as many miles as some but timewise maybe alot longer spent travelling to training. Have you ever driven around Dublin before or after work? Dublin GAA do get substantial funding ok but their inter county team spending is pretty much the same as any of the top teams. Favourable refs? Meals delivered to them? Bizarre comments. Croke Park didnt really do them any favours in the 90s and noughties why is it an issue now? None of that is why they beat Mayo last year.

I never mentioned Mayo last year?? You ever hear of Dublin Joe?? Maybe google it baby. and yes they get meals delivered to them. Again google it. Yes I suppose travelling 2km to training must be so exhausting for them? Mayo and Donegal players have it so easy in comparison. Silly me. I do agree with you that Croke Park did not do them any favours in the 90s and noughties. You ask why is it an issue now??? So are you asking me why it is an issue now that Croke Park are doing them favours?? I would have thought it was self explanatory but I will try to explain to you. You see Croke Park are meant to be impartial, unbiased, a whole 32 county encompassing entity. So if they are doing favours (which they are) of course it is an issue- why would it not be??? Are you happy that one county gets more favouritism than another?? Would you be happy to see Kilkenny get prefertial treatment in hurling, or Galway?? the creeler (Cavan) - Posts: 512 - 02/03/2021 11:50:09 2333284 Link 5 |
It's bizarre but the most vociferous of defenders of Dublin on here appear to come from other Leinster counties. Counties the Dublin juggernaut have pummeled into irrelevance. It's a touch of Stockholm syndrome I think. Never mind the team spending. Check out the sponsorship and how much their county board have to fundraise each year, minimal amounts compared to other boards including your own who have to constantly fundraise to keep teams on the road. Why on earth would Croke Park do them favours. How much funding did Croke Park give any county in the 90s?

It's generally the same posters making accounts to make their opinions look popular. People tend to follow the popular opinion so by upvoting their own opinions people gravitate towards that. Several obvious instances. There's a Cavan poster, Breffini something, who only appears to defend Dublin but is absent on Cavan topics and the Cavan county forum. Lilylanger is another example. dakid (Australia) - Posts: 285 - 02/03/2021 15:41:18 2333315 Link 3 |
I didnt say the GAA did them no favours in the 90s or any other time. Read my post carefully baby! I pointed out that playing games in Croke Park in the 90s and noughties wasnt any advantage to them. They didnt have the golden generation they have now. Yes they get more funding but I think that's more so determined by head of population and isnt spent on the county teams. Last time I drove from Swords to Dundrum took me 2 hours and was more than 2km. Noone would like to see Dublin back in the pack more than me. While I have a load of friends in Dublin I'd be overjoyed if they didnt win Sam for another 20 years. Same as I would be if Kilkenny didnt win Liam for another 20. But at the same time I can see and respect a great team for what it is. All that annoys me on these threads is the constant raising of money as being the only reason they are winning. Its disrespectful to the great players they have had in the last 10 or 12 years. Same as the criticism of Kilkenny up to 5 years ago. And some of the negative comments they ll never lose again nonsense is very annoying too. It's up to other counties to keep their best players playing and provide proper structures to help them. Look at Limericks hurlers now. Was all the same nonsense about Kilkenny up until 2015 and look at that situation now. If you were serious in your criticism of Dublins number of All Ireland titles you should be focusing on the situation they were in up until the 1960s where they won all Irelands some years with next to no Dublin born players on the teams.

Colm O Rourke is a Leitrim man who won Sam with Meath.

Never knew lol. And how did he end up playing for meath? Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1726 - 02/03/2021 19:24:40 2333340 Link 0 |
Just wiki'd it. Born in Longford, raised in Leitrim, but also says he moved to skryne in his "youth". Galway9801 (Galway) - Posts: 1726 - 02/03/2021 19:30:41 2333343 Link 0 |
Colm O'Rourke's late brother Fergus played for Leitrim. A good share of former Meath stars have Connacht roots, came up to Meath, mostly Summerhill, Trim, Skryne areas for a bit of a "land grab" (joke). The Dubs are not the only All Ireland winners with "migrant roots"

Former Meath greats like Tommy Dowd, Robbie O Malley and Mick Lyons (I think) are of Mayo stock. Can't get more Mayo than the name "O'Malley". Sure maybe some of them were only returning "home" to the east...Cromwell forced a lot of refugees from Leinster into Connacht ;) yew_tree (Mayo) - Posts: 11237 - 02/03/2021 22:00:25 2333357 Link 8 |
Ah kindomboy. The proprietor of every account on hogan stand. He has more accounts than the Healy Raes have properties but this ain't one. Just a lad who's sick of Dublin and Kerry multiple accounts provoking and then circling the wagons. Breffini and lilylanger are the most obvious ones. dakid (Australia) - Posts: 285 - 03/03/2021 00:16:38 2333366 Link 0 |
